Reverse Anagrams

Like True Anagrams except in reverse. We'll start with an 8-letter word and remove a letter each turn.

it doesn't feel right to just take away the D (or the S or the R), but ....finance
me too - I was beginning to think this was too easy, so I'm not sorry we hit a snag; some puzzles will be easier than others
I can make deafen, but I don't see that gets us anywhere
