Tim | 152 comments I'm looking at a couple options for tracking my books via a database. In addition to standard information (title, author, etc), I want the ability to create fields recording how I was led to the text and fields for listing the main themes or a summary of my impressions.

Is anyone using an application that they would recommend?

Stephen (havan) | 548 comments I've NOT heard of any "wicked" applications for that.

I have been using this site to track my books for a few years now and while it's shortcomings are many, it is a convenient starting point.

This site does support CSV exports as well, so perhaps beginning your database here then exporting it to a spreadsheet app will meet your needs.

I'm curious to see what others recommend.

Tim | 152 comments Thanks for the responses. I'd not come across caibre. I like the interface as demo'd on their site, but it has some limitations similar to tracking here on goodreads. I'm going to try out:

http://www.collectorz.com/book/

It has options for user defined fields and report generation (pay version), which I'll ultimately need for my project. Thanks again.

I've been using Bookpedia for OS X. It's good and lets one download data from a variety of sites (but not goodreads yet) by scanning the ISBN barcode with your webcam.
