Cookie (bookcupidity) Hey there - It seems this board is predominantly frequented by people who work within the library system...so you've provided me the perfect place to ask a question my husband and I have wondering!

How do books land in the library? I get that the system purchases books, but can they also be donated? Can authors donate? Can patrons donate?

Please enlighten me! Sometimes I read a book and think, dang, this is so good the library should have it! And then there are the times where I get one of those emails that say "sorry, the book you have on hold is no longer available"...

Cindy | 3 comments Yes, we take donations but not all of the books end up in the collections. Some will be donated or resold at book sales. Library managers do extensive research to select for their local communities. Authors can donate but it is up to the individual library manager whether they want to have that donation catalogued and added to their local collection. The best way to get a new book that you like considered is to fill out the online suggestion form: http://ww.mymcpl.org/about-us/talk-us
Thanks for asking,
Cindy Stewart Grant

Cookie (bookcupidity) Thank you for your response! Good to know...I always feel bad filing out that suggestion form, it seems kind of selfish almost, LOL. "Get this book so I can read it!" I've also picked up books recently that is no longer in the system anymore and wondered if it would be good to donate it, so I'm glad you filled me in.
