Gaskell's work is good as well. I prefer to read Austen's as it isn't as heavy a classic. But to watch adaptations Gaskell is up there with Austen's!"
yay haha

I must agree, I love Mr. Darcy too, though he isn't my favorite Austen hero. I think I'm partial to P&P because that was the first Austen movie I ever saw. I grew up with my mom watching it over and over again, and that's the reason I'm a British movie fan. :)
YES! :D I love P&P for the whole package! the music, the location, the actors/actresses, the costumes, everything! But yea, not my fav hero. ;)

lol it IS wonderful

One of my all-time unfavorites is Elsie Dinsmore. Too good. And I never could quite get David Copperfield.
Mostly if I hate the hero/heroine I simply don't finish the book! :)

I liked the first 6 books of Elsie Dinsmore. Although I do agree she was too perfect. ;) I prefer the Milldred Keith books by the same author.

Same here. Didn't care for The Hunger Games (the movie... didn't read the books) & especially didn't like Peeta...

I read all the Elsie Dinsmore books, but I didn't really like them. I only read them because someone bought them for me & I kinda felt like I *should* read them.
LOL I think I got through like 15... but my sister has read all of them. I think.. she might have about 2 left? ... lol
yea I just don't see the appeal in a movie about teens murdering each other and coming back as creepy creatures, etc. And calling it a game... and then marketing it for CHILDREN! That's great- then by the time they become teens they'll think killing each other is the normal thing to do... I think not.

I just don't understand why people always blame books, movies, video games,ect..for murder and violence. There was murder and violence before these things were ever invented.Cain murdered Abel and he was his brother and for no reason in the first book of the bible.I love would love to know how books, movies, and video games caused him to murder his brother.
I'm not blaming all violence on books/movies, but they DO influence those that watch/read them and have an impact on our thoughts/actions. And if that's what young children with impressionable minds grow up on, that's what they'll grow up thinking is the norm. we live in a strange society where kids grow up on TV's and computers and that is where they get their world views and beliefs.
the Bible also says "whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things." (Phil. 4:8) If (like you said with Cain) we already have the tendency to sin and do wrong, we shouldn't be feeding it with unwholesome thoughts/ideas that we get from the things we have in today's age.(books, movies, computers, video games, etc).

As with the Cain and Abel story of course there was a reason! The reason was that Cain was jealous of Abel because God preferred Abel's offering more. (for good reason Abel offered selflessly)
exactly! I don't think (most people) actually watch a movie looking to be influenced. ;) it just happens! because we tolerate it.
YES! exactly (on the cain and abel story).
