yay haha

I think I'm partial to P&P because that was the first Austen movie I ever saw. I grew up with my mom watching it over and over again, and that's the reason I'm a British movie fan. :)
YES! :D I love P&P for the whole package! the music, the location, the actors/actresses, the costumes, everything! But yea, not my fav hero. ;)

Haven't read the Hunger Games! It tends to bother me simply from its overweening prevalence, though. I always knew I wasn't interested in Harry Potter stuff, and happened to be in the room this summer when some friends started watching the first movie...what an absolutely irritating child! Now I have more reasons not to watch/read that. One of my all-time unfavorites is Elsie Dinsmore. Too good. And I never could quite get David Copperfield.
Mostly if I hate the hero/heroine I simply don't finish the book! :)

:D
I liked the first 6 books of Elsie Dinsmore. Although I do agree she was too perfect. ;) I prefer the Milldred Keith books by the same author.

Alice wrote: "*raises hand* I don't like the hunger games."Same here. Didn't care for The Hunger Games (the movie... didn't read the books) & especially didn't like Peeta...

I only read them because someone bought them for me & I kinda felt like I *should* read them.
LOL I think I got through like 15... but my sister has read all of them. I think.. she might have about 2 left? ... lol
yea I just don't see the appeal in a movie about teens murdering each other and coming back as creepy creatures, etc. And calling it a game... and then marketing it for CHILDREN! That's great- then by the time they become teens they'll think killing each other is the normal thing to do... I think not.

yay i don't like the hunger games either! i think bc americans like reality tv, survival, and romance so much.
The movie was lame, but the book was awesome. I can't believe you guys! You should give it a try at least.

I just don't understand why people always blame books, movies, video games,ect..for murder and violence. There was murder and violence before these things were ever invented.Cain murdered Abel and he was his brother and for no reason in the first book of the bible.I love would love to know how books, movies, and video games caused him to murder his brother.
I'm not blaming all violence on books/movies, but they DO influence those that watch/read them and have an impact on our thoughts/actions. And if that's what young children with impressionable minds grow up on, that's what they'll grow up thinking is the norm. we live in a strange society where kids grow up on TV's and computers and that is where they get their world views and beliefs.
the Bible also says "whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things." (Phil. 4:8) If (like you said with Cain) we already have the tendency to sin and do wrong, we shouldn't be feeding it with unwholesome thoughts/ideas that we get from the things we have in today's age.(books, movies, computers, video games, etc).

so with you Alice. I'm sure everything that goes in influences how you act perhaps even subconsciously. I've felt the influence in school and other places and without trying ive started acting differently. Which is really bad and I'm trying to fight it. Books, movies, and video games don't CAUSE violence however they may be part of the stimulance. Of course others include jealousy rage emotions and motives. As with the Cain and Abel story of course there was a reason! The reason was that Cain was jealous of Abel because God preferred Abel's offering more. (for good reason Abel offered selflessly)
exactly! I don't think (most people) actually watch a movie looking to be influenced. ;) it just happens! because we tolerate it.
YES! exactly (on the cain and abel story).

Gaskell's work is good as well. I prefer to read Austen's as it isn't as heavy a classic. But to watch adaptations Gaskell is up there with Austen's!
