Shelf: Free Space
Book: Bronze Gods by A.A. Aguirre
Date Finished:June 15
Rating:★★★★
MY REVIEW:
This is the first Ann Aguirre book I've read. The world built was interesting. The companionship between Mikani and Ritsuko was indeed quite fun to read.
Mikani and Ritsuko, CID inspectors find themselves in charge of a case of missing girl, Cira Aevar, who is later found to be murdered using a weird contraption. As if being the death of a daughter of one of the Houses was not bad enough to stir up big trouble, this murder is soon followed by another using different contraptions. Soon Mikani and Ritsuko find themselves racing to find this killer before he murders his other victims, and also to save their jobs which are on the line. What follows is mostly racing to investigate, find clues, and solve the mystery- the normal "who-done-it" procedure.
One thing I liked about this book was the world-building and word-building in it. But, we can see the beginnings of a love-triangle in the end. Lets see how that one goes.
To be honest, I was a bit disappointed with this, only because there was not enough steampunk element to it. In fact, other than the devices designed for the murders there is no other steampunk element. And I was hoping for more.
Other than that, this was indeed a satisfying read.

Val, I read this book awhile ago! And from what I read it wasn't YA. I think you will like it.

oh, good. Some tagged it as YA so deduced that it was so....guess I'll find out soon enough.

Yeah I read both this and the second in the series and really liked both of them. I was listening to it on audio and my boyfriend got in the car during a sexual scene and was a little thrown off so I think you a safe.

Book: On Dublin Street by Samantha Young
Finished: June 17th

Review:
I bought this book a few months ago and kept meaning to read it based on friends' reviews at GR's. I am bummed now that I waited so long to read this book. It was a great read from the very start. This book definitely had its issues for the characters to work out, but it still had plenty of humorous banter between the two main characters to not be too heavy. I am a crier though so there were scenes that got me, but plenty made me laugh as well. I saw in reviews that Braden bugged some people, but it never bothers me to have a boss male lead, I am able to get past these guys and just escape into the book. It was a fun read and I will definitely look forward to reading more from this author. I do have to add though, not too sure about this being on the strong heroine shelf, I felt like Joss had a lot of baggage to work on throughout the entire book and strong is not necessarily the first adjective that comes to mind when I think of her.

Book:Tiger Magic by Jennifer Ashley
Series: Shifters Unbound #5
Finished: 09/06/2013
Rating: ★★★★★
Review:
I'm never disappointed with Jennifer Ashley's books, keep hoping that they will come out sooner still. Tiger can aptly be tagged as a tortured hero since he was created and experimented in a lab. After being rescued he is relocated to the Austin shiftertown where he tries to fit in. Since he is a man made shifter, no one really trust him aside from the cubs.
I always loved the way the author could portrait social outcast, second class citizen and still paint a loving, caring community under all the oppression and prejudices. Having lived all his life in a cage, Tiger is not equipped to interact with others being, human or shifters. Her mate is exactly what he needs, someone who stands by his side and gives him support when he needs it.
From the setting up for the next book (or couple), the Shiftertowns might finally have help from one human in the government.

I could not understand it either. :)

Book:Stray by Rachel Vincent

Review:
It wasn't a great book to say the least. Faythe was a very difficult character to like because she was rather immature for a mid-twenty person...it's as if she waited until 18 to get her teen rebellion going and has not gotten past that stage yet. Couple that with running from her problems instead of fighting the shifter system.
The shifters society is still living under the radar so some elements and rules of the shifter society was different a bit from other novels in the genre.
The story only got interesting halfway through the book, for a 600 pages book it's a long time to persevere on my part.
It is understandable that tabbies being in short supply, arranged marriages or matches are to be expected...and many werecats to stay single for life. This problems leads Faythe to be captured, brutalized and a buyer waiting for the delivery of his ordered kitty cat. It is unfortunate to say that's when the book started being interesting because Faythe spent less time being annoying and be proactive about her life. There was quite a bit of gory scenes but they did not bother me.
It is very hard to make love triangles work but this one is not on a good start. Or should I say love rectangle? Faythe left her current boyfriend like he was a used tissue but still calls him, a old friends that she clearly takes advantages of his feelings for her and the old boyfriend turned rampaging wounded party when he smells something not to his taste.
I always try to read the second book before giving up a series but it will take some time before I even try on book two.

Shelf: Strong Heroines
Book: Crimson Frost by Jennifer Estep
Date Finished:June 20
Rating:★★★★
MY REVIEW:
Somehow, all Mythos Academy books leave me feeling confused what to feel, and this book was no exception.
Vivian Holler somehow makes the Protectorate believe that it is Gwen Frost who stole the Helheim dagger and is responsible for freeing Loki. Soon, everyone at Mythos and Protectorate end up hating Gwen and accuse her of being a traitor and a "Reaper Bitch", and generally making her life difficult.
Meanwhile, another Reaper attack on her in the Library of Antiques, ends up in some artifacts being stolen. Gwen just knows that something is brewing up. Being confined to the Mythos compound with her bodyguard Alexei, while all others have gone to the Winter concert, Gwen has a gut feeling that something evil is afoot, and that she has to hurry if she can help her friends.
I liked the inclusion of the new character Alexei.
Grandma Frost and Morgan McDoughall were good in the final part too. And Logan! Why did this have to happen? Though I undertand his reason just like Gwen does, that doesn't mean I have to like it ,huh?
All together, a fun read, just as usual. Can't wait for the fifth book- Midnight Frost releasing next month.
I ended up reading both
and
for the Strong Heroines shelf! I've been meaning to read both of these book for so long...:-)

Have FUN!!!

If Lisa is still going with freebies I can remember a few that i picked up the last year:

I'm still looking for what I'll read this week.

Review:
This was extremely action-packed and Penryn was the epitome of a kick-ass heroine. She knew just about every form of self-defense possible and wasn't afraid to use it. She is definitely a person I would like to be friends with or be like. Her love for her sister and her determination were far and above what a sister could possibly be.
As for Raffe, he is an absolute angel...literally. I would love to have him as a travel partner at the end of the world.
This book was something that I was really looking forward to reading and it definitely did not disappoint.

Review: I really don’t have too many good things to say about this book. I enjoyed the idea of this book much more than the actual story. The descriptions of the dragons and their flying were beautiful; but I never did understand the smoke . The characters could maintain 3 forms: human, dragon, and smoke. Being able to change from human to dragon is a wonderful concept; but I thought the smoke was just a little strange. The main character Kit (the alpha male dragon) was not likeable at all. He was just a mean bully who took what he wanted, when he wanted; never taking anyone else’s feelings into account. Clarissa, his mate, was just downright annoying. She became a runner, leaving the dragon’s realm when she was only 17 (I could clearly understand why she would do this), to escape the smothering control and because she didn’t fit in with the others. She enjoyed her life away from other dragons, but when Kit shows up to bring her back, all of a sudden she is in love. She becomes a traitor, helping Kit track down another runner like herself. Her actions and reactions just didn’t make sense. She started off the story as a Strong Heroine, but was definitely wimpy by the end of the story. I also felt the story was slow, with not much of anything really happening most of the time. I will have to pass on reading the next in this series.

Heather this looks great!...but just noticed the Book Boyfriends Shelf is missing :)

Heather..."
Lisa, I didn't include it because we have already gotten that stamp. My original intention was to post our pending items to remind everyone what they had left to read/post. However, if you all want me to post all shelves, let me know. I just worried that over time it might get pretty large. I can also turn post 77 into all of our completed stamps if you all would like.

That makes sense :) I'm ok with however you want to do it.

That's too bad. I always hate when a book turns out this way for me. Hope you enjoy this week's book more! I have been wanting to check out the series you are reading this week so I am looking forward to your review.

Most reviewers seemed to like The Smoke Thief, so maybe it is just me...But I just didn't enjoy it.
However, I can highly recommend the first book in the series I am reading this week. Here is the link to my review for Firelight http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
I gave it 5 stars and am hoping this second book is just as good.
