Book: How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf by Molly Harper
Finished: June 26th
Rating: ★★★★
Review:
This book was great fun to read. One of my favorites is to read a book with a good sense of humor and this one really came through. I can't wait to read the next book. It started out with Mo escaping her ex-fiancé and crazy parents in the south by travelling up to Grundy Alaska to get away. The locals are a bit odd and the weather takes some getting used to, but Mo fits right in. There were of course some things I didn't necessarily love about the book, like how easily Mo accepted Cooper's werewolf-dom. It is somewhat explained by her unusual upbringing, but I still didn't believe it. Who wouldn't freak that the hot guy from the diner turns into a wolf. The big mystery of the book, I found it somewhat predictable, but still interesting enough to keep the story going. I greatly enjoyed the banter between Mo and Cooper, that she didn't let him get away with his grumpiness. The men of Grundy were also a hoot, the different ways in which they tried to woo Mo at first was great fun. All in all, this was one of the more enjoyable books I have read in a while.

Book: Falling Kingdoms by Morgan Rhodes
Date Finished:June 26
Rating:★★★★
MY REVIEW:
"Even in the darkest and most cruel person, there is still a kernel of good. And within the most perfect champion, there is darkness. The question is, will one give in to the dark or the light?"
Falling Kingdoms illustrates this very point. All characters in this book, with only a very few exceptions, have both good and bad qualities in them. Even though this book contains multiple POVs, the fact that every person is portrayed as characters in shades of grey, makes it difficult to either like or dislike anybody.
Auranos and Lumeros are the two neighbouring countries of Paelsia. Both Auranos and Lumeros are prosperous in different ways. In all three kingdoms, resentment and prejudice are passed through generations, but they have maintained a sort of peace for decades.
Everything changes when Aron, a nobleman of Auranos kills Tomas, a wine seller's son of Paelsia without proper reason. This fuels the hatred of all Paelsians and Jonas , the brother of the slain Tomas, is bent on getting revenge and vengeance for this.
In Auranos, Princess Cleo, is plagued by nightmares of Jonas coming to exact revenge , ever since she doesn't do anything to stop Aron killing Tomas. Also, her sister Emelia is sick and Cleo goes to Paelsia in search of a cure. The king of Lumeros meanwhile, supposedly joins hands with Paelsia to destroy Auranos. This he does with the help of his son Magnus and daughter Lucia. However, Magnus struggles with his father's eternal disapproval, and also with his inappropriate love for his sister.
What I did like about this book, was the Watchers, Kindred, Goddesses Valoria, Cleoina, and Sorceress Eva part of it. Also, the only likeable character were Emelia and the exiled Watcher in Paelsia. The multiple POVs may irritate some, but I found no problem with it. In fact it helped to convey the character of each person better. All else aside, this is a great fantasy book.

Book:Red Seas Under Red Skies by Scott Lynch
Series: Gentleman Bastards #2
Finished: 27/06/2013
Rating: ★★★★
Review:
I only discovered this series this year so I did not have to wait years to read both books. This has the advantage of having fresh memory of both main characters but it has the downside of making comparisons too.
We start to story with our two remaining Gentleman Bastards: Locke and Jean. The first book was rife with emotional heartbreak of the downfall of the Gentleman Bastards in Cammorr. The build up of the attachment to the characters in the first book was well done because it had multiple flashbacks to watch Locke and company grow. This time around the book takes place only over a 2 year period and I did not feel as engaged emotionally. In some respect the Gentleman Bastards have hit rock bottom and it takes time to climb back up to your former glory. The first half of the book is concerned about info dump, multiple seemingly unrelated plots...which I'm sure will come handy in the coming installments. It was a bit tedious and dragged a little but the second half made up for it quite well.
As Locke and Jean are getting their feet under themselves with a new scheme...their quiet operation is hijacked and they are thrown, quite literally, as the cover suggests...on a ship. Now the Gentleman Bastards are superb impersonators but they never lived on a ship other than as a passenger. They are so out of their depths and lying left and right to keep their heads above the water that it's nerve wracking. To add some spice, the prologue is of Jean betraying Locke...which is shocking and keeps you reading to see how those two could ever do that to each other.

Review:
This book was not nearly as good as I thought that it may have been. It was such a popular book series for so long that I thought that something may be interesting with this series so I should give it a try. However I was extremely disappointed.
Luce has been possibly involved in a horrific accident and she now feels responsible for a person's death. Due to this accident/incident, she has decided to go to a reform school. At this reform school, she is has met some very peculiar people that are all supposedly horrible in their own way.
The one thing that I absolutely hated about this book was that it was extremely vague on every aspect of the story. The chapters would all end very abruptly and would leave you off wondering what really happened. She may be one that likes to let the imagination run wild. However I would have liked a little bit more leverage or guidance on what was actually happening.

No problem, I just wanted to make sure I didn't miss it somewhere. Thanks!

Review:
This was a new to me author. I had picked up the pb of this book a few years ago before I got my kindle, then never got around to reading it, until I checked it out from the library to read on my kindle. In this series, shifters have come out to humans. To control the shifters behavior, human have insisted they wear collars that keep them from outbursts of anger, violence and even adrenaline. If these emotions occur, the shifter experiences pain throughout their nervous systems. The book begins with human attorney Kim Fraser heading to meat shifter Liam Morrissey to discuss the case of her shifter client Brian. Brian is the first shifter in the 20 years that shifters have been collared to be accused of violence against humans, in this case, killing his girlfriend. As Kim and Liam work together, Liam begins to feel a pull toward Kim that he has never felt for any woman before, especially not a human. As Pack and Pride politics are dealt with Kim realizes there are much more to Shifters than many humans realize.
I loved this book. It was a quick read, full of action and good romance plot line. I will definitely be reading more of the series, and glad that I have several more books to read before I am all caught up.

Review: Another great book in the Darkest London series. Firelight is still my favorite book, but Moonglow is a fun read as well. Ian returns in this tale as a much more likeable leading man. The three sisters (Miranda, Poppy, and Daisy) are back, and this time it’s Daisy’s turn for adventure and love. Many new supernatural creatures appear, some familiar and some not so familiar. This author definitely has an original imagination. Overall a fun, quick read…definitely will be moving on to the next in the series.

Review:
I'm at a loss at how to review this book. If you haven't read the series, everything I would write about would just be a big spoiler.
This installment is action-packed with Maddy picking fights with bigger and bigger adversaries. While I like seeing Maddy struggles with her life I have a real problem is that she ignoring politics, politeness, and any form of good judgement to just go hack her enemies to death...the fact that those are general fallen angels and beings millennia old (and armies) is hard to believe that they could be bested by a twenty something half-human.
Basically you have a heroine with major anger management issues and no regards for her friends that she drags into every conflicts. How does she sleep at night? Killing is too exhausting I guess. Let's not forget all the holes in the plot big enough to navigate a ship through.
Nevertheless it's still quick and fun to read...and yes I'll read the next one because I want to see how low Nathaniel will have to prostrate himself.

MY REVIEW:
It took quite some time for me to get into the setting of this book, so much so I began to feel I was not going to enjoy this book...
I was really glad to be proven wrong. This is a cop/ who-done-it kind of story mixed with the mystical. Kara Gillian is a recently promoted homicide detective. Incidently she can also summon demons. The invetigation of the Symbol Man ritual killing serial murders is handed over to Kara. Kara senses that all these involves the arcane. Now she has to race against time to stop the Symbol Man.
Meanwhile, something goes terribly wrong when Kara tries to summon a fourth-level demon. This should have been simple enough, but instead of the demon summoned, Rhyzkhal- one of the Demon Lords comes through. And even more puzzling, instead of being angry, he seduces her.
She then learns from her Aunt Tessa, who happens to be her mentor in summoning that Rhyzkhal could now come to this plane unfettered, and without the code of honour they had in their realm if Kara just calls him with intention. How are the Symbol Man murders connected to Rhyzkhal?
There are many twists and turns in this book. Just when you think you have successfully guessed the Symbol Man's identity you will find that you are wrong.
Love this book.. I'm sure the next book will be just as good.

Review:
I think part of this review suffers from the long break I took between books 2 and 3 in the Silver Dragon portion of this series. I had a hard time following portions of the story and characters since I waited so long to read the book. This was the final chapter in May and Gabriel's story as we worked on piecing together the shards of the dragon heart by borrowing them from the other dragon Wyverns. They must piece the heart back together so that May can have the piece inside of her removed, then the shards can be broken back up and returned again. To borrow all of these, Gabriel must work deals with each Wyvern, while also trying to find two dragons wanted by the dragon wyers, led to a lot of different storylines to follow.
Once I was able to get back into the story, it was a fun read. I do have to say though, that I quickly recalled how much I loved Jim and how on the opposite how much May's twin Cyrene bugged the crud out of me. Aisling, from the first three books, spent all of this book big, pregnant, and stuck in bed, so other than jokes Jim said on her behalf, we saw very little of her. The ending was great and left me excited to start the next trio of stories on the light dragons.

Review: It has been a while since I’ve read J.R. Ward’s Fallen Angels Series, and I had forgotten how creative a storyteller she is. Envy is the third installment and the score is close, as far as souls being saved. This time we meet Veck, the son of a serial killer, who has many demons of his own to deal with. Ward’s male characters all seem to have that great combination of being extremely tough yet sensitive; and Veck definitely falls into that category as well. However, is it toughness or just plain evil? And might he be just like his father? Jim is back again fighting the evil and trying to save souls, along with his sidekicks Adrian and Eddie (Motorcycle riding bad boys with wings…you gotta love them). Who will win in this ongoing contest for humanity? This book was extremely entertaining, with plenty of action and romance for my liking. I will definitely try not to wait so long this time, before I read the next one.

Review:
This book was absolutely fabulous. I never thought I could possibly say that about an alien book, but the way this book is set up and the way the aliens are portrayed I am extremely happy with how this book came out in the end. It isn't your typical funny-shaped, less-fingered shaped like humans or insects type of aliens. (Okay they are shaped like humans but normal ones and they are awesome.) These are seriously extraterrestrial beings from the heavens. :)
I can't help but love a book when the main guy is a complete douche, but in a hard to resist kind of way... Yes I know that is a little weird and this may be because my man is nothing like that.
The banter between Katy and Daemon is great with lots of sexual tension. Dee is a great sidekick to the whole operation. Ash is the perfect jealous ex-girlfriend while Katy has a great comeback, you-can't-pull-me-down attitude. But I think Daemon has me hooked. His asshole attitude that I would definitely not take in real life, but will always love in a book boyfriend. What can I say...I am in a little piece of heaven.

Just a heads up, there are three teams with 4 in a row. It can be checked out in the spreadsheet link I posted at the bottom of post #185. We have three 3 in a rows.

Review
This book took me awhile to finish, but that is only because I got busy and not at all due to the fact that I didn't like it.
This book was sweet and had some romance without being overly romantic. I love that this girl found her own way in life rather than following just as she was ordered as an assassin. Duval was such a nice guy who I would have really liked just because of how well he took care of and truly cared for his half sisters. It was very endearing.
The story behind this was really good however I did not know where it was going to go from the ending. I am glad to find out that it follows another one of the girls in the book that I felt needed to find her own way.

Val, are they easy to load onto an ipod from this?

Overdrive is not a Mac friendly product. Sometimes it does transfer ok and other times it just doesn't. I still can't find a Q&A on how to resolve that issue. Do you have better results?

Review:
As with the previous books, it was action-packed and the audiobook really helped the experience.
One of the great strength of this story is that Thomas has memory issues and the intentions of Wicked is never clear. Is WICKED good? Minho was an awesome balance to Thomas leadership struggles.
The resolution of this book does not answer all the questions but I guess the prequel, if I read it, might provide answers. While a very entertaining installment it did not surpass the masterpiece that was the Maze Runner.

I've had decent luck if I check out the WMA files for the audio rather than MP3 from Overdrive via my library. I haven't looked at SYNC at all so I didn't realize it was through Overdrive as well. Do you have a choice of WMA and MP3 files, or just MP3?
