Review: This is the sixth in the series. Still enjoying it but it is starting to remind me of the Anita Blake series. Lissa continues to do the right thing and ends up getting hurt in the process. However now that she is known as the Little Queen and has moved off planet she has multiple suitors. They are nicer than the ones on earth. The men actually treat her as a equal which is nice to finally see.

Review: Loved it - finally Lexi and Zach's story .... woohoo. I'm enjoying the world she is creating and how she weaves multiple stories into each book. Can't wait for Nika and Madoc's story next!!

Book: Hunting Julian
Author: Jacquelyn Frank
Rating: 3.5 Stars
Date Read: 07/23/2013
Hunting Julian (Gatherers, #1) by Jacquelyn Frank

Review: Jacquelyn Frank is a new author for me. I liked the premise of Hunting Julian and decided, why not?
Julian is a Gatherer. An alien who walks the earth looking for women to help rebuild his dying planet. The stronger the woman, better for the planet.
Asia Callahan has been following Julian's steps for a while. She blames him for her sister disappearance. Asia is a human bounty hunter, and knows exactly how to track the man who she thinks is a serial killer.
Julian doesn't expect for Asia to be his Kindra - Soul Mate.
So when Julian declare his love for Asia, she's sure he's crazy. Once on his planet, she'll have to learn to live by their rules or suffer the consequences.
I liked this book, it was packed with great main characters, and bad guys-girls. They manage to develop a relationship that is believable besides them being each others kin. Great Read!

finished: 27/07/13
Rating: 4.5 stars

Review:
I understand now why everyone has been raving about this book. I thought it was Excellent! I loved the idea of angels being the bad guy and I thought Penryn was such a great character, very kick ass and resourceful in her own way. I can't wait to read the next book when it comes out this winter!

Completed 7/27/13

Review: This is the first in the Hollows series. Zombies have taken over and have attacked the quarantine where Remy has been staying with her younger brother Max. He is evacuated with the soldiers to another quarantine. Remy crosses the country to find her brother. This was just ok - probably why it took so long for me to finish it, lol. I didn't really connect with any of the MC's and you don't really find out why it is so imperative for Remy to find her brother until almost 3/4 of the way through the book.

Megan L Harnett Devil Without a Cause (The Devil's Bargain, #1) by Terri Garey /Terri Garey

Shelf: Supernatural
Finished: 7/28/13
Rating: ★★★☆☆

This story is about the devil who has lost his love. So he tries to take his loneliness on two people who have sold their souls to him. Faith has a son who is diagnosed with brain cancer. In order to save her son she makes a deal with the devil.

This story was ok. It had more of the Devil's story in it instead of Faith and Finn. I wish I could have more of them instead.

Week Nine: Supernatural
Book: Cry Wolf

Cry Wolf (Alpha & Omega, #1) by Patricia Briggs

Review:

Cry Wolf is the story of Anna and Charles. They are both werewolves. Anna was attacked 3 years ago and become a werewolf. She's an Omega wolf, one that have traces of both dominant and submissive wolves. She also has the power of calming them down. However, the first pack she was introduced to instead of protect, respect, and revere for her, they abused, tortured and tried to break her. That's when Charles got in. He saved her and discovered they were mates. Now in a new pack, with new wolves surrounding her, Anna isn't sure of what she's to do or how to act.
A rogue wolf has been killing people around the pack area, and Charles being the hit man on the pack - his father's pack - is the one to be sent to kill the rogue. But with an Omega, maybe there's a chance for the rogue. But when they come to the place of the killing, they encounter more than they were waiting for.

I liked this book. It was well done. I hadn't had any big emotions toward it, nor good or bad. Anna and Charles learned to trust each other and to grow as mates. It lacked some on the romance part, but it was okay. At some parts I felt lost, like this wasn't the first book of the series, but only after I noticed that there's a prequel <Alpha & Omega>. I liked this book, but it didn't rock my world as some other PNR/UF had. Since the rest of the series is still about Anna and Charles, I'm not sure I'll be reading any time soon.

Sandra | 25908 comments Congrats Rulers of 3!

Dyllan, Charles & Anna's books intersect with Mercy Thompsons', so you might want to think about whether you drop the A&O ones.

message 217: by Josie (new)

Josie | 1967 comments I'm one of those people who prefer A&O to Mercy Thompson (I did read them first so maybe that matters). But yeah, Sandra's right that they do intersect in some places/events. I don't think it'd ruin Mercy by any means, but I know people generally think that A&O improves as the series goes on :)

message 218: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments I like them both. Its the world building and people that intersect mostly, with the odd event being in the background.

Just thought I would check in. I'm Sooooo enjoying my Supernatural book, savoring really should be the word I use, I'm taking my time so I can enjoy every word cause when it's over I have to wait way to long for the next book :) but I will be done by next shelf call.

OK, I finished my Aliens book and I went with something different then what I had originally picked :)

Week 7: Aliens

Night Reigns (Immortal Guardians, #2) by Dianne Duvall by Dianne Duvall
Finished: 03/08/13
Rating: 4stars

Review:
Who doesn't love a book that has Hot Alpha Male Characters and Chicks that know how to kick some serious Butt, because Night Reigns has it all!
I'm truly in love with this series! I loved the interaction between all the characters but Marcus and Ami's relationship was told perfectly and I loved how the two over came their fears about falling in love and found peace in each other. There was plenty of action and an ending that left me with more questions then answers and a huge desire to get my hands on book three.
Although this was Marcus and Ami's story my favorite characters were Seth and Sebastian, both characters are intriguing with facinating yet vague back stories that make me curious to find out more about them. Sebastian's story is being released Oct 1st of this year and I can hardly wait. This book was a solid 4 stars for me and I will be eagerly waiting for October 1st and I can get my next fix of these tantalizing Immortals.

I'll be done Magic Rises Tonight and I'll post my review when I get home from work :)

Sandra | 25908 comments I keep forgetting to read that one Kat. Thanks for the reminder ;)

message 223: by Josie (new)

Josie | 1967 comments LOL Sandra, I'm guessing you're talking about 'Night Reigns' rather than 'Magic Rises'? With everyone reading KD, it'd be hard to forget that one :P

Though the most frustrating thing, I have Magic Rises right here next to me but I haven't read Gunmetal Magic (which I ordered seemingly weeks ago and still yet to arrive) so I have to wait. On the bright side, at least I get to read two Ilona Andrews books at once :)

I've finished my supernatural read.

Code (Virals, #3) by Kathy Reichs

Title/Author: Code by Kathy Reichs
Date finished: 3rd August
Rating: 4 stars
Review: This is why I don't review. I am way too lazy, especially with books that I don't have strong feelings for either way. So in very short sentences becauses ceebs to use conjuctions... here are my thoughts.
I enjoyed this book. I enjoyed the clues and mysteries. I enjoyed the characters. I didn't enjoy the way Tory called Hi, Shelton and Ben "my boys". It's kind of weird. Sometimes Tory annoyed me. She seems older than a 14 year old at times. I would like some more positive female characters for Tory to befriend.

message 224: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Yep, I meant Night Reigns. Figured no one would think I'd forget to read Magic Rises, esp as I'm still waiting for it to arrive. Hoping for at least Tuesday. Go Book Depository!!!!!! LOL.

Is it just me or did this round of bingo go really fast or what! It seems that this week we will have a winner Team 14 is the only 1 who needs this shelf to win bingo, so I won't be in to big of a hurry to pick out my book for this week

Magic Rises (Kate Daniels #6) by Ilona Andrews by Ilona Andrews

Finished: 03/08/13
Rating: 5 stars

Review:
There is just no words to describe how much I loved this book! It had me crying the very first chapter and raging the next. This writing team sure knows how to put a person through the emotional ringer. Kate and Curran are always a delight to read about along with my personal favorite Derek, who I think really needs his own Book! but with all the good there are a few losses and some very close near misses for this band of warriors, but I won't say anything more about that, you'll just have to read it to find out! Best book of the series yet! LOVED IT!!!!

message 227: by [deleted user] (new)

oh I also picked my book of this week The Coincidence of Callie and Kayden (The Coincidence, #1) by Jessica Sorensen I just happen to have it on my KOBO so now is as good a time as any to read it, plus from all the reviews people seem to really love it :)

I agree. Too fast :(

message 229: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ | 1616 comments It did go fast but fun! Have to say I still haven't finished my supernatural book, lol. Never could get into it.

message 230: by [deleted user] (last edited Aug 10, 2013 04:19AM) (new)

so it seems that we might get 1 more week, 1 team member from 14 hasn't checked in or yet reviewed their book to win yet, so we might still have a chance at winning :)

and if I'm correct if we get our Aliens stamp, Supernatural stamp and Tortured Hero stamp we'll be inline for another 4 in a row

either way I'm going to check out the shelves we could win with just to be on the safe side and have something lined up in case team 14 fails to call bingo today

message 231: by Josie (new)

Josie | 1967 comments You're right, Kat - I didn't even see the second 4-in-a-row!

No doubt Team #14 will win today but it wouldn't hurt to be prepared. I think we only need one book for Aliens, two for Supernatural and everyone for Tortured Hero! I'm in the middle of one that can be used for the Tortured Hero shelf, so my pick will be The Duke Is Mine. I will probably be done today :)

message 232: by [deleted user] (new)

I'll be done my Tortured hero book today sometime too and then I will be all caught up if we do get 1 more shelf :)

message 233: by Josie (new)

Josie | 1967 comments Sorry my mistake Kat, only 1 more book for the supernatural shelf! I looked at the list but I guess everyone's assumed that we wouldn't still be playing :P

Supernatural
Iron Kissed (Mercy Thompson, #3) by Patricia Briggs
finished 8/8/13
4♥

Review: this is the third installment of the Mercedes Thompson series. Revolves around Fae killings on the "Fae reservation" Mercy's friend Zee ends up taken into custody for crimes he didn't commit. While I did enjoy the book there were storyline developments made (if you haven't read no peeking at the spoiler ☺ (view spoiler) that I'm not sure of how they will effect the rest of the story line - have to wait and see what develops in the next couple of books. Not sure it was necessary and I'm not sure with what happened if the ending of the book is realistic. Just my two cents. Still enjoy this series and was glad that she made a decision between Samuel and Adam ~ and I liked who she chose.

At Peace (The 'Burg, #2) by Kristen Ashley
Kristen Ashley
Finished 8/7/13
Rating 4-4.5 ♥

Review: The 'Burg series #2. Violet has lost her husband and moved her and her teenage daughters away from Chicago as there is a crazy drug lord who wants her. Oh did I mention said crazy drug lord is the one who had her husband murdered. Yep. Ends up in a little town with a cop in her neighborhood and next door to "scarily attractive security specialist, Joe Callahan."
Vi just wants to get her life on track. Joe wants a piece of his neighbor once he meets her. Doesn't want to give a piece of himself. He is empty and still living in his past from a horror that happened 17 yrs ago. In true KA fashion this has a hot alpha male and a flat out awesome chick. A couple of things bothered me but when all is said and done it was a great book. Enjoyed this one better than book #1. Loved Joe with Vi and her daughters ~ heart meltingly awesome!
