Pauline Conolly As author, I realize that one huge question arises from my book; who was more culpable in the tragedy surrounding the doctor's daughters....their father or their governess? Certainly Victorian social and sexual mores played their part.

Kaj Luberti The end responsible is always the parent. So I lay the blame completely at Dr Marsden. He not only failed to protect the girls against the governess, but he encouraged her in an active way to be as strict as possible. I don't really think he actually loved his children that much...if at all!

Pauline Conolly I think you may be right Kaj. He was very selfish and ambitious. Thanks for your perceptive comment.
