Ji Mei (jimei) | 6855 comments Curious, Anne went up to the door and knocked hesitantly. She had spotted the sign and realized that she had never paid attention to this workshop, mostly because she was too focused on her errands. She rocked on her feet, hoping she wasn't intruding.

Z | 2683 comments Aimee had been tinkering with her legs, they were clanking a bit loudly when she heard a knock on the door. "I'll be right there!" She called loudly. She screwed back in the plates on her legs, ruffled her dress, and walked to the door.

She opened the door and looked out at the girl on her doorstep. "Hello, how can I help you?"

message 5: by Ji Mei , The Meticulous Secretary (new)

Ji Mei (jimei) | 6855 comments Looking surprised and somewhat sheepish, Anne coughed into her hand to hide her embarrassment. Then she answered, "I was wondering how long your business has been here."

message 6: by Z, The Faithful Servant (new)

Z | 2683 comments Aimee smiled at the girl. "Oh not long, only about three weeks. I'm new to London." She stuck out a hand and shook hers. "I'm Aimee, Aimee Victoria Cogs."

message 7: by Ji Mei , The Meticulous Secretary (new)

Ji Mei (jimei) | 6855 comments Taking her hand, Anne smiled back, though she noticed her hand felt somewhat odd. Pushing her thought aside, she replied, "Nice to meet you. I'm Anneliese Roberts, but you can just call me Anne."

message 8: by Z, The Faithful Servant (new)

Z | 2683 comments "Pleased to meet you Anne." She paused, "Oh dear, excuse my manners! I'm just letting you stand out there in the street. Please, come in." Aimee smiled happily and moved aside, gesturing towards her bright workshop .

message 9: by Ji Mei , The Meticulous Secretary (new)

Ji Mei (jimei) | 6855 comments She hesitated, but then she thought that Aimee looked sincere and she stepped inside. Anne looked around in amazement. "Wow, you have a wonderful workshop! Mine is quite dingy in comparison."

message 10: by Z, The Faithful Servant (new)

Z | 2683 comments Aimee laughed and smiled. "Why thank you! Although I know it's not that grand. Would you like some tea?"

message 11: by Ji Mei , The Meticulous Secretary (new)

Ji Mei (jimei) | 6855 comments ((Sorry! It didn't leave a notification! ))

She grinned and nodded. "Yes, that would be great!" Anne said emphatically. Taking the liberty of sitting at the table, she asked conversationally, "What kind of mechanic work do you specialize at?"

message 12: by Z, The Faithful Servant (new)

Z | 2683 comments Aimee sat across from the girl and smiled. "Well," she began. "I like to make machines, little practical things that cook a meal, or dust somewhere, things like that."

"What about you?" She said with a smile. "What do you specialise in?"

message 13: by Ji Mei , The Meticulous Secretary (new)

Ji Mei (jimei) | 6855 comments "Most of the time I fix machines like automobiles or someone's farm device," Anne answered. "I wish I could make machines, but my free time is limited to only fixing even more things in the shop."

message 14: by Z, The Faithful Servant (new)

Z | 2683 comments "That's very useful." Aimee said smiling sympathetically. "It's great to be able to fix things, not many people are good at it, I only know how to do it because my father taught me, he was a mechanic as well."

message 15: by Ji Mei , The Meticulous Secretary (new)

Ji Mei (jimei) | 6855 comments Anne smiled. "It seems mechanics like to keep it a family business. My father is one as well. But I didn't learn how to fix things from him. I-I had a time where all I could do was try to fix things," she explained.

message 16: by Z, The Faithful Servant (new)

Z | 2683 comments "Really? That's quite interesting. When was this?" Aimee said, genuinely interested, wanting Anne to keep going, she loved hearing about people's lives.

message 17: by Ji Mei , The Meticulous Secretary (new)

Ji Mei (jimei) | 6855 comments "It was when I was 14. My mother had some kind of memory disease and I was trying to find a way to help her," Anne said, her smile fading slightly.

message 18: by Z, The Faithful Servant (new)

Z | 2683 comments "Oh dear! I'm sorry I brought it up." Aimee's face fell sadly. "I'm so sorry." She took Anne's hands and squeezed them softly.

message 19: by Ji Mei , The Meticulous Secretary (new)

Ji Mei (jimei) | 6855 comments "Oh, it's all right," Anne said shaking her head and smiled again. "It was almost 10 years ago. I know now that it was impossible to fix her memories."

message 20: by Z, The Faithful Servant (new)

Z | 2683 comments "I'm glad you were able to cope, that must have been awful." The girls sat for a while. "Oh dear!" Aimee said flustered. "I completely forgot, would you like some tea? I'm a terrible hostess."

message 21: by Ji Mei , The Meticulous Secretary (new)

Ji Mei (jimei) | 6855 comments Anne made a waving gesture. "Oh, you're not a terrible hostess at all. You have done the duty of chatter, which I prefer since my father is hard of hearing and usually busy. And tea would be fine," she replied amiably.

message 22: by Z, The Faithful Servant (new)

Z | 2683 comments Aimee smiled at her comment feeling very much relieved. "Thank you Ann! I love chatting, I usually get carried away." She laughed. "I'll be right back with your tea." Aimee got up and went to the kitchen.

message 23: by Ji Mei , The Meticulous Secretary (new)

Ji Mei (jimei) | 6855 comments Nodding, Anne sat back and looked around at Aimee's workshop again. It was quite clean and organized, with room to move about especially if machinery had to move to different work areas. She noticed how warm it felt with the bright lights and she felt that it must be quite lively working in such a pleasant shop.

message 24: by Z, The Faithful Servant (new)

Z | 2683 comments Aimee came out of the kitchen carrying a pot of hot tea and a tea cup and saucer. She had balanced a bowl of sugar on her elbow and was carrying the cream as well. She set them all down with out spilling and smiled. "I hope you enjoy your tea." She said smiling. "Cream and sugar?"

message 25: by Ji Mei , The Meticulous Secretary (new)

Ji Mei (jimei) | 6855 comments "Yes, that would be wonderful," Anne answered. "You seem to have the skills of a hostess with those balancing skills!"

message 26: by Z, The Faithful Servant (new)

Z | 2683 comments Aimee chuckled happily. "Why thank you Anne. I've got a pretty good equilibrium, I designed it my self you know."

message 27: by Ji Mei , The Meticulous Secretary (new)

Ji Mei (jimei) | 6855 comments Cocking her head, Anne looked somewhat confused. Then, when she looked at Aimee more closely, she realized her hair was coppery wires instead and her skin had a metallic sheen. Reddening, Anne immediately looked down in embarrassment. "I-I'm sorry. At first I didn't know what you meant. I thought you were, um," she stammered, again thinking over her coarse manners.

message 28: by Z, The Faithful Servant (new)

Z | 2683 comments Aimee smiled softly. She had hoped she wouldn't embarrass her guest. "That I was human? It's okay, I try to make myself look as human as I can, but I can't hide the fact that I am almost completely clockwork."

message 29: by Ji Mei , The Meticulous Secretary (new)

Ji Mei (jimei) | 6855 comments Glad Aimee didn't react negatively, Anne relaxed. "Really? That's amazing! You're amazing!" she exclaimed.

message 30: by Z, The Faithful Servant (new)

Z | 2683 comments Aimee smiled shyly. "I'm not that great, I'm just me, but thank you." Aimee sat down and Anne noticed she ticked softly like a clock.

message 31: by Ji Mei , The Meticulous Secretary (new)

Ji Mei (jimei) | 6855 comments Anne was terribly curious, but even she knew it was beyond coarse manners if she asked anything to satisfy it. Instead, she took a sip of her tea and mmm-ed appreciatively. "Well, you make quite a cup of tea. I think it's brilliant we have run into each other. I can fix things and you make things," Anne observed. "We could make quite a team."

message 32: by Z, The Faithful Servant (new)

Z | 2683 comments Aimee sat down across from Anne. "That we could, that we could." Aimee paused and thought for a while, then she smiled.

"You know, I've had a wonderful idea that I've been planning for a while, I've drawn up some plans if you'd like to see it? Plans for a machine."

message 33: by Ji Mei , The Meticulous Secretary (new)

Ji Mei (jimei) | 6855 comments Intense interest showed on her face and she leaned closer. "A machine? What kind of machine?" she asked with barely contained excitement.

message 34: by Z, The Faithful Servant (new)

Z | 2683 comments Aimee leaned in and smiled. "An under water machine, and not just those silly prototypes that go fifty feet under, but one that could travel to the very bottom, the depths of the ocean, where people have never been!"

message 35: by Ji Mei , The Meticulous Secretary (new)

Ji Mei (jimei) | 6855 comments "Oooh." Anne practically squealed, much to her own embarrassment. "An underwater machine? With self-propulsion, I presume. That would be fantastic! I'm sure you'll have people scrambling to see your machine."

message 36: by Z, The Faithful Servant (new)

Z | 2683 comments "Exactly!" Aimee said excitedly. "Self propulsion, able to withstand enormous pressure, and finally allowing us to explore the underwater world!"

message 37: by Ji Mei , The Meticulous Secretary (last edited Jun 12, 2013 10:37AM) (new)

Ji Mei (jimei) | 6855 comments "I've heard of amazing creatures living in the deep. Squids, scary monsters, and flat fish," Anne said. "Of course, I don't believe the monsters, but the rest I do." She opened her mouth to continue when there came a knock at the door. Glancing at the clock, she realized that it was around the time when it was most busy and knew her father must be frantic. Turning back to Aimee, she smiled apologetically. "Sorry, I suppose I should go. I don't want to take up your customer's time. Here is a business card. Visit me so we can finish talking about your plan," she said hurriedly, pulling out the card. With a nod, she left, waving a goodbye as she hurried away.

*END OF SCENE*

message 39: by Z, The Faithful Servant (new)

Z | 2683 comments Aimee sat in her workshop admiring her work. She had completed the final piece to her underwater craft, and the hardest part too. A large engine sat on her work bench, the wood creaking under the weight and the mechanical pieces shinning. Now the only thing left was to put it into her completed ship and hire a crew.

Late that night Aimee left her workshop with a large bundle on a carriage. She pulled it along as if it was only a bag of flour. She made her way down to the warehouse that was close to her workshop and the river Thames.

Aimee entered the workshop, her limbs ticking softly as she walked up to her creation. There, stretched out and about the length of a bus, was a mechanical ship. It's hull glowed softly in the moonlight cast through the overhead windows of the warehouse. Aimee worked hard through the night attaching her engines to her creation.

Z | 2683 comments ((Okay.))

Aimee sat in her workshop and prepared a pot of tea. She fidgeted excitedly and waited for the knocker to sound at the door. She was hoping Stephen and his assistant would arrive soon and witness her invention.

๖ۣۜSαᴙαh ๖ۣۜMᴄĄłłiƨʈeʀ (inked_chinadoll) | 0 comments Stephen almost missed Aimee's door because he had been chatting so thoroughly with Anne. She actually had to stop him to tell him they had arrived. Looking sheepish, Stephen chuckled and knocked on the door.

message 43: by Ji Mei , The Meticulous Secretary (new)

Ji Mei (jimei) | 6855 comments Anne rocked on the balls of her feet as she waited standing next to Stephen. She had left so abruptly the other time she visited and she hoped Aimee wasn't offended. But she was glad that the invention was able to be completed. It seemed her that everyone's dreams were being fulfilled. Even her dream to become an artificer had been revived.

((^^ I thought it would be great if Anne and Joeri did similar things.))

message 44: by Z, The Faithful Servant (new)

Z | 2683 comments Aimee hurried to the door after she heard the knock. Her guests ha arrived! She stopped at the door, smoothed her dress, checked her goggles, and opened the door. "Hello!"

message 45: by ๖ۣۜSαᴙαh, The Supreme Overload (new)

๖ۣۜSαᴙαh ๖ۣۜMᴄĄłłiƨʈeʀ (inked_chinadoll) | 0 comments "Aimee! Hi!" Stephen greeted. "I hear you already know my apprentice?" he said, nodding to Anne.

message 46: by Z, The Faithful Servant (new)

Z | 2683 comments "Hello Stephen, yes I do! Hello again Anne." Aimee beamed at them. "Please come in." She moved to the side to allow them entrance.

message 47: by Ji Mei , The Meticulous Secretary (new)

Ji Mei (jimei) | 6855 comments Anne smiled and gave her a quick hug before stepping inside. As she looked around, she felt her excitement bubble up. She was finally going to see it! Even though she only heard the news earlier that day, it felt as if she was waiting for days. "I'm glad you were able to finish your project," she said, still unable to mask her admiration of Aimee's shop.

message 48: by Z, The Faithful Servant (new)

Z | 2683 comments "Thank you Anne!" Aimee said brightly. "Would the two of you sit? I've made tea and I'll tell brief you on my invention before I take you to it."

message 49: by ๖ۣۜSαᴙαh, The Supreme Overload (new)

๖ۣۜSαᴙαh ๖ۣۜMᴄĄłłiƨʈeʀ (inked_chinadoll) | 0 comments "Sounds fantastic," Stephen grinned, taking a seat.

message 50: by Ji Mei , The Meticulous Secretary (new)

Ji Mei (jimei) | 6855 comments Anne nodded her agreement, sitting down. "Thank you for inviting me," she added, making sure she was on her best behavior.
