Gretchen Not that I have watched every episode of Downton a dozen times, but did anyone else notice Downton errors in the telling of this story. I noticed on page 286 that it says "Captain Matthew Crawley and William the footman, were still missing in action, prompting Mrs Crawley to head to France to look for her son..." When in fact that was not the way of it at all.
They received notice of Matthew and Williams MIA status only after Lady Grantham and Mrs Crawley had it out over the hospital and Isobel said perhaps she would go where she was more needed and Lady Grantham said "good." So in haste she left for France. Isobel never even knew her son was MIA.

Katie (Katiebiblio) As I was reading the book, I was wondering about how accurate the accounts of the episodes were. This answers my own curiosity. (I also thought there were many more problems with this book other than its description of DA.)

Nancy I've never watched an episode of Downton Abby--I know, unfortunate and regrettable. I did think the book was a quick, fun read for the summer.

Elaine I have only seen one or two episodes of Downton Abbey, so I can't really tell whether there are errors or not. There is one thing though that really has me chomping at the bit, and I'm assuming it is because the author is american and whilst she has done research into British customs and our snacks etc, she hasn't actually tried them. The whole chapter where Claire gets blind drunk after drinking shandy is just so wrong. Shandy is the drink we give to teenagers to make them feel grown up, because you just cannot get drunk on it, its impossible, especially over the course of a couple of hours. If you started drinking it at 9.00 am and then drank it solid, non stop, for the day, then maybe, although you would probably be sick long before you felt drunk!
