I have spent my working life in the IT industry in various roles and currently work as a freelance business systems analyst in the insurance industry. It will come as no surprise that the work is uninspiring, but it is quite well rewarded and there is the mortgage to pay.
In a nutshell, my job requires me to set out ideas into words - in a structure and at a level - that makes them understandable to my varied readership of insurance specialists, software developers and testers. I have always tried to make my work as interesting to read as I can, given the dullness of the material.
During a lengthy period without work, I started writing. I had a few articles published in magazines and, flushed with success and chuffed at seeing my name in a few by-lines, I decided to write a novel. Whether or not my writing leads to another career, it has fended off the cabin fever during the bad times.
My novel is called ‘The Bevan Equilibrium’ and is an e-book available on Amazon. Here is the link if you would like to read the synopsis or the ‘Look inside’ sample: http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Bevan-Equ...
I am an unashamed fan of crime novels and thrillers in general, believing that books should entertain and provide an escape from reality. If they provoke thought too, that’s fine. I’ve just started reading ‘Rush of blood’ by Mark Billingham – the first I’ve read without DI Tom Thorne. Missing him already.
