Nishtha Jindal (nishthajindal) | 26 comments Allison, I guess it's time to start discussing about our next book. I guess you have been busy with your new job and shifting so you couldn't start the discussion, so I started it! I hope you don't mind me taking over a wee bit of your job for once! Once we get your approval I believe we should start discussing.

Thank you Nishtha! Yes, the moving and everything was a lot. So, yes, let's discuss. What books would we like to read? I'm planning on drawing from the May suggestions, but this is where we can add new ones.

If I were to add a new book, it would probably be Scott Westerfeld's Uglies. It is on my to-read list, and I thought it may be fun to read it with all of you. :)

Okay -cracks knuckles- Let's see here. I'm going to pull from Nathaniel's lovely summary of last month to see what we have:

His Majesty's Dragon (the first of Naomi Novik's Temeraire series)
The Host (Polite alien body-snatchers who really do make the world a better place by taking it over.)
Unwind
Dissension (Scarred Sun Trilogy)
Summer of Blood (Rio Crew novels)
Epic (set in a world run by people based on their standing in a video game)
Archform: Beauty (advertising and crime in a near future world)
Imager (the series tackles politics, and what people do when they do or don't have power)
The Bad Beginning (Book 1 of A Series of Unfortunate Events)
The Godfather

And pulled from April:

Neverwhere by Niel Gaiman
Postcards from the Edge by Carrie Fisher
Guards! Guards! by Terry Pratchett

So, it looks like in past months there's been some interest in Unwind by Neal Shusterman, Guards! Guards! by Terry Pratchett, Imager by L.E. Modesitt Jr., and Epic by Conor Kostick.

Any thoughts?

Nathaniel Steffel | 55 comments Poll is up! http://www.goodreads.com/poll/show/84...

Sadly, this polling software only allows you to vote for one book, while Facebook allows for more than one. Also, PLEASE write-in any books that are important to you that you feel we should enjoy, like you have.

Nishtha Jindal (nishthajindal) | 26 comments Well, on the poll I've voted for Imager by L.E. Modesitt Jr., but actually I wanted to read Lord of The Rings this month(the first part is Fellowship of the Ring). I recommend this for the group because Science Fiction is a genre which I have seen is loved by all the members of this group. The choice is yours. If someone would like to read it, I'll add it to the poll.
And, honestly, only one book per month is way too less. I read at least 3 books a month and I'm sure that the others also read minimum 2 books in a month. So, I believe that we should choose 2 books for a month. Well, the rest depends on you guys only.

Nishtha Jindal (nishthajindal) | 26 comments I forgot one thing- please remove Bad Beginning from that May list. I just got to know that it's very young fiction,- grins- not for anyone above 14!

message 9: by Bon (new)

Bon (bonne) I agree it might be a good idea to have two books each month. I know it may be a little difficult with such a small discussion group, but this way we could pick one we haven't already read or do a series read without being stuck only doing a series/having read only one of a potentially interesting one. Especially with our wishlist rapidly growing!

OR, it doesn't even have to be the case that we have two books each month. Just like this month, with The Eyre Affair, we could occasionally have BONUS books.

Also, while I voted for Unwind in the poll, I'd like to do the same ranking thing as last month. (I know the facebook group/poll allows multiple votes, but I'm reluctant to join just yet as I'm a bit squeamish about privacy...)

1- Unwind
2- Epic (reminds me of a Futurama episode, though I'm fairly certain the only thing the storylines share is going into a virtual reality)
3- Shades of Grey (yyyeah another Jasper Fforde, but what I've read by him has been good! Also, this is an indeterminate number of grey shades, not fifty)

Aaaand, the book pics are announced! Due to some feedback I've gotten, we are giving the two books a month option a try!

So, for the month of June, we are reading BOTH Epic by Conor Kostick AND Unwind by Neal Shusterman.

They are both offical picks, but you don't have to read both. If they both sound interesting, great. But, they have different feels to them, and if you are more interested in one or the other, read that one!

I'm not setting an order, and there are discussion folders for both of them. At the end of the month, we'll talk about both in the hangout.

Let's see how this two books a month thing works.

Also, Bon, I completely understand about facebook. Privacy is important.

Also, I'm happy to see Shades of Grey, because I read and loved that book before the dratted 50 of them came out. I hope he sequals it.

Uh, Allison, I'm fine with the two picks but I won't be able to discuss them at the end of the month on the hangout, because my mom isn't very supportive about Google+ Hangouts. I can only discuss the books on Goodreads.

Yeah! It's at my local library, so I may pick it up soonish. It looks like there might be a sequel planned, which is always a good thing.

And both of our book picks look interesting! I'll attempt to read each this month.

Nathaniel Steffel | 55 comments Grr...Every OTHER library around me has Unwind, but not the one NEXT to my office. Also, Epic is out currently.

To the Holdsmobile!

Holdsmobile! As cool as that sounds, sorry about that.

Nishtha, I understand about the handouts. That's actually something I really want to work on as we grow, is getting better about discussing on Goodreads. So, if you see anything cool in the books you would like to talk about, start a discussion thread, and we will join in. And I'll work on starting more discussions myself.
