Jack (Reader Reborn) (readerreborn) Okay, so now that we're all done with the Rithmatist and had a couple days to let it sit in the back of our minds, let's discuss.

Here are a few questions to get us going:

1. Who was your favorite character? Least favorite?

2. Were there any parts of the book that really stood out to you?

3. Was there anything you didn't like about the book? Why?

4. What do you think we're going to get in the sequel?

You're not going to answer them first? I thought that was how these things worked? Lol

Okay, my favorite character was Joel. I liked that he was so passionate about what he believed in. He kept studying and hoping even though he really didn't believe there was anything for him to hope in. I also loved his assessments of people, particularly Melody. One of the parts in the book that made me laugh out loud was when Melody came in and announced that she was ready for her flogging. And Joel, who had just been thinking about how pretty she was, commented that it was too bad that she is crazy. And then she accused him of following her even though he actually arrived before her. Silly kids.
My least favorite character was Nalizar. And it would have been even he didn't have a Forgotten attached to him. He was a total jerk. I didn't even know Fitch at the point of the duel, but I still really wanted to beat Nalizar up for the way that he humiliated Fitch.
I hope that the sequel tells us more about the circumstances of Joel's dad's death...actually, I just hope we learn more about Joel's dad in general- an entire flashback chapter would be awesome! I also need to know what happens in the inception chamber. And I think that they should take us to the frontlines in Nebrask to see what is happening up there first hand. Oh yeah, and Joel needs to become a Rithmatist. Even though, I do think that the Joel and Melody team-up was awesome, I still think Joel should get to be a Rithmatist.

Jacob Rhyne My favorite character was Fitch. He is quirky so that's what I like about him. He has a lot of respect for others which gives him respect in turn.
My least favorite character was the secretary exton combo. Gossipers just really irritate the dickens out of me. As for Nalizar you can always like a really good villain. I haven't learned to hate him yet, like neferet from House of Night by pc cast.
In the next book I want to know, like Adri, more info on Joel's dad. I'd also like to learn more about the thing that became Nalizar.

Jack (Reader Reborn) (readerreborn) My favorite character was Melody. Partially because she was awesome and partially because she was the perfect foil for Joel. They were both at the respective lowest levels of their side of the school, almost outcast because of it, yet they were both good at what their respective curriculums wanted (technical learning for Joel and Rithmatics for Melody) but they were good in such a way that went against traditional teaching. Melody I assume is already one of the best chalklings drawer out there. I wonder if there is a place specifically for people in Nebrask to draw chalklings? Like a sniper? If so, why wouldn't the school encourage her?

My least favorite character was probably the Forgotten for reasons I've stated before.

The scene that really stood out to me were when Joel and Melody first go to Fitch's office for their summer sessions. That whole sequence had a very "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" feel to it, which I loved. And, of course, that whole final chapter.

In the sequel I figure we will see the front lines. I'm also expecting a Joel/Melody romance. The reason I stay away from most YA books, especially ones with a supernatural tilt, is because of the YA romance angle. The way this book plays them off each other, though, I can see their love story being more like Andy and April from Parks & Rec. I'm kinda okay with not knowing more about Joel's dad. I figure we will get to know more about him, but at the same time I don't really want to.

Jack (Reader Reborn) (readerreborn) Steelheart Prologue

The prologue for Sanderson's next book. Looks good! Though that'll be 4 little books in a row. I want Stormlight 2 already!

Jack, you know I don't even get half of your references. Also, what the heck did I just read? I don't care if the superhero idea is cool, what that 8-year-old boy went through was horrific.

Jack (Reader Reborn) (readerreborn) Shame faced, but I haven't actually read it yet!

What?! You posted it without reading it. I thought "looks good!" was an assessment.
