Steinbeck: His ability to take on the questions of common man.

Shame more Americans don't even realize it.
Steinbeck knows what the heart of the matter is and has no problem facing it directly. There is a kind of poetry in his style and all of his characters have enough depth to seem real and complete.

Yeah, don't underestimate 'em, either.
The NSDAP only had 7 members when Hitler joined it.
What I like about Steinbeck is that he knows and writes about common man's loneliness, desire for better, using subjects and characters all readers can relate to in their lives.
