Challenge Ideas for Aug
I like the challenge (as it is in message #94).If I remember correctly, our individual goal is 15 books each, using three categories - five books per category. Is this correct?
I see more than three categories that I would like to do, but will restrain myself to only three if that is what we are supposed to do. Lol.
Also, just as a side note - since I tend to read a lot, it may be possible that I could make up for some of the required 15 books to help someone else. This may be along the same lines as what Barbara suggested, in that we could use a book someone else has read to fill a category if need be.
So for example, if Thilde was unable to read 15 books, maybe some of what I read (beyond my required 15) could count towards her goal of 15?
Just a thought, and again, I may be duplicating what Barbara has already suggested. Not sure.

Hina, I am using the new app I think, but sometimes I'm seeing only part of a message, and then the typing I don't like either.
I just mainly check in to make sure I'm on top of things, and there's nothing urgent.

Hina, task #12 - rainbow is a bad word choice. And it really should be 5 different colors.
We still need one more option for #10 - we could do tattoo, profile/shadow, building.Otherwise I really like how this challenge came out. There are plenty of options for everyone.
I do think we need to have everyone post any books read that AREN'T used for their tasks. Because there will definitely be members who can't complete 5 or 10 books in one month. Or even people who are one short on whichever option they selected. It'll be sort of like a "choice" or "free book" option.

If you are unable to complete it on your own, or would like to collaborate with another member of the team to get the total of five, it is okay as long as you let us know, so we can count it towards completion. You can decide ahead of time or post it in the challenge thread later to get a partner.
- There is no minimum or maximum number of categories to do. Feel free to do as many categories you feel comfortable with.
- Please read each categories carefully, some are more specific than others.
Please create 1 post to keep track which you edit. It can help you and me keep track and post new updates as you finish your books so I can update the spreadsheet more regularly. This will also help when you are collaborating on a challenge.

Its not necessarily 15 goals for everybody because we all have different goals, so our numbers for the months are different. Its basically whatever you are comfortable doing. And you are right you can collaborate with for example with Thilde to complete a category.

12. Reading the Rainbow: Read 5 books that have covers that are the colors of teams participating in Tower Team II.
For 12, reading the rainbow: can we only read books that part of the rainbow and correspond to a team color or just any other team color like Behind the Enemy Line from 7%? I think the word Rainbow is throwing me off.

@Hina, So, the covers from the other teams was Barbara's idea (post 64). I had said a rainbow, thinking of Roy G Biv from school which is the colors of the rainbow --- but Barbara suggested covers representing the other teams.I thought she meant read covers of other teams' colors, but they each have to be a different color.
The instructions look good, but I am also a bit close to it.
So, do we have a team goal of trying to complete at least X number of the options?I will send out the messages to the other team members tonight.
For 13, I vote for 1 with 2 a close second.
I'm not going to do a cover challenge, so I'll let others vote --- I mostly either read library books, where I don't have control over the cover or on my kindle :-)

Right now, Barbara votes for Genre Mania while JoLene is slightly more preferential to How Do I Love Thee over Genre Mani?
So it would be me or Jingles to break the tie. But in any case, I wanted more information as to how Genre Mania works.
Genre Mania: Pick a favorite genre and read 5 books each with a different sub-genre books.
I think I know what is being asked here, but if you can explain it or do an example so we all know how it works. I would vote for this if what I am thinking is how it works. I think most people will be thrown off with the sub-genre wording. SO I just wanted to make sure people understand.
For Category #13, I vote for Option #1 - How Do I Love Thee.For Category #10, I vote for Option #10G.
With that being said, Category #13, option 1 is one of the categories that I would probably be doing, while I would probably skip 10G.
My strategy for this challenge (as well as any others I do) is to do the easier tasks first, and the ones that appeal to me the most. Then, if time permits, I go back to cover "secondary" tasks (those that appeal to me, but are not quite as easy).
I must confess that I'm one that prefers the easier challenge tasks, instead of the harder ones.
Still, I will participate in whatever we decide.

4. Connect 5 books: You may use a word from title or an authors first or last name and create a chain of 5 books.
5. Summer Settings: Read a 5 books that take place during the summer season (at least 50% of the action should be in the summer)
6. Connect 5 bookshelves: Connect 5 books through bookshelves/genres on the book's main page. Example: Read The Diviners, and then your 2nd book would need to have a genre of fantasy, horror, young adult, mystery, historical fiction. At least 10 people need to shelve the book as something for it to be used.
7. "Must Read" Mania: Pick a listopia list with "must read" in the title and read 5 books from that list.
8. Friendly Visit: Read 5 books that are set in or where the author is from places where our team is from:

13. How do I love thee? Let me count the ways: Read 5 of your favorite authors and/or books that you have been waiting anxiously to read.
14. Around the world: Read 5 books, each set in a different continent (Asia, Africa, Antarctica, Australia, Europe, North America, South America)
15. Read the 5 W's: Connect books: (I was thinking of this as a reading challenge or some sort for something else but I think it can fit here)
A. What happened?
Contemporary Romance - Pick a book that has friends to lovers theme OR Second Chance theme.
Romantic Suspense - Pick a book that has one of the character as an officer of the law (police officer, FBI agent) OR the heroine is on the run/hiding.
B. When did it take place?
Historical Romance - Pick a book that has a wallflower heroine and a rogue hero OR forced marriage/marriage of convenience.
Time Travel Romance - Pick a book that has a character going back in time OR a character time travels to the present.
C. Where did it take place?
Fantasy Romance - Pick a book that takes place in a completely made up fantasy world that is not Earth OR pick a books that has a character(s) will save a city/Kingdom from the villain/monster/socially unexpected policies.
Science Fiction - Pick a book with aliens OR pick a book that is set in the future on Earth.
D. Who is it about?
Paranormal Romance - Pick a book where the character is a vampire or shape shifter OR pick a book where there is magic, witches or ghost involved.
Multicultural Romance - Pick a book where there is an interracial couple OR pick a book where the hero/heroine overcomes adversity.
E. Why did it happen?
Erotic Romance - Read a book that is involved in Dom/sub relationship and/or there is a BDSM theme OR a book that has a menage scene. (Alternative, since this genre is so controversial, the third option is to choose a book in a genre that you rarely read or something new to you, but it couldn't be one of the ones you used earlier in this theme)
Inspiration Romance - Pick a book that falls into the category of inspirational romance, christian themed romance OR pick a book that is categorized as a sweet "clean" romance.
Okay Message 94 and Message 120 are essentially the same thing. But Message 120 is the latest. I also added 2 more to the rules:
- You cannot repeat the same category if you have already completed it once.

If no big objection, I want to submit this to the mods for approval.
Hina --- I sent the other folks to message 94 in the email that I sent last night. Can you either make them exactly the same or put a link in message 94 so they see it.Genre mania was one that I had thought of based on a comment from Barbara where she was gave us a listing of sub-genres. We would need to make that list available in order for it to work (I think).

We might want to say that you will credit a post in the sister group which is where the tracking thread will go.
JoLene, Message 120 and 94 are same (I did a quick double check), so they should have no problem. I will create a new thread as soon as I get approval from the mods and I will post here and our main group page to direct them where to start their tracking thread if they are interested in organizing their books together.
I think it should be mandatory that each team member has a post on the August Challenge UNLESS of course, they are not participating. The captain/co-captain have to be able to see everyone's progress to keep us on track to finish this challenge.
Hina, you need to make "Tattoo" --- "tattoo on cover" otherwise it looks great.

And you can probably go ahead and make a separate post for the August Challenge participant lists because I really can't see the Mods having a problem with this diverse and somewhat challenging challenge.
