Challenge Ideas for Aug

If I remember correctly, our individual goal is 15 books each, using three categories - five books per category. Is this correct?
I see more than three categories that I would like to do, but will restrain myself to only three if that is what we are supposed to do. Lol.
Also, just as a side note - since I tend to read a lot, it may be possible that I could make up for some of the required 15 books to help someone else. This may be along the same lines as what Barbara suggested, in that we could use a book someone else has read to fill a category if need be.
So for example, if Thilde was unable to read 15 books, maybe some of what I read (beyond my required 15) could count towards her goal of 15?
Just a thought, and again, I may be duplicating what Barbara has already suggested. Not sure.

Have you tried putting in comments recently with the Goodreads app? It has gotten a lot friendlier. I even started doing it a couple of times. As long as its not a lot to write down, I don't have a lot of problems with it. I just don't like to type that long on my phone.
..."
Hina, I am using the new app I think, but sometimes I'm seeing only part of a message, and then the typing I don't like either.
I just mainly check in to make sure I'm on top of things, and there's nothing urgent.

You still have to create a story. I'm not going to be doing this option anyway so you can use JoLene's original #9. I'm worried that our members don't read much paranormal and 4 of the 5 options (on "WHO") are paranormal characters. Maybe make 1 paranormal creature, 2 lord or lady, 3 twins, 4 alpha hero, 5 kick-butt heroine.

Otherwise I really like how this challenge came out. There are plenty of options for everyone.
I do think we need to have everyone post any books read that AREN'T used for their tasks. Because there will definitely be members who can't complete 5 or 10 books in one month. Or even people who are one short on whichever option they selected. It'll be sort of like a "choice" or "free book" option.

Duration: 8/1/13 - 8/31/13
The goal of this challenge as a team to read 75 books in the Month of August. The goal is to read 5 books for a category and connect them with a common theme found in the category. You are allowed to do as many categories you feel comfortable doing.
The rules are simple:
- Book must be 160+
- All the categories must have 5 books each to be considered completed. If you are unable to complete it on your own, or would like to collaborate with another member of the team to get the total of five, it is okay as long as you let us know, so we can count it towards completion. You can decide ahead of time or post it in the challenge thread later to get a partner.
- There is no minimum or maximum number of categories to do. Feel free to do as many categories you feel comfortable with.
- Please read each categories carefully, some are more specific than others.
Please create 1 post to keep track which you edit. It can help you and me keep track and post new updates as you finish your books so I can update the spreadsheet more regularly. This will also help when you are collaborating on a challenge.

Replacing Category 13 with:
1. How do I love thee? Let me count the ways: Read 5 of your favorite authors and/or books.
2. Genre Mania: Pick a favorite genre and read 5 books each with a different sub-genre books.
3. Leo the lion: Read a 5 books that celebrate the zodiac sign of Leo. Options: Strong male lead, Lion or Fire on the cover, ???

Its not necessarily 15 goals for everybody because we all have different goals, so our numbers for the months are different. Its basically whatever you are comfortable doing. And you are right you can collaborate with for example with Thilde to complete a category.

This was your category, can you clarify for me and Barbara how you want this to be?
12. Reading the Rainbow: Read 5 books that have covers that are the colors of teams participating in Tower Team II.
For 12, reading the rainbow: can we only read books that part of the rainbow and correspond to a team color or just any other team color like Behind the Enemy Line from 7%? I think the word Rainbow is throwing me off.

Adding a sub-category to Category 10-G.
10. "I spy with my little eye:
a. Jewelry on the cover.
b. Dress on the cover.
c. Sunglasses on the cover.
d. male and female on the cover.
e. naked chest on the cover.
f. Hat on the cover.
g. Vote on THIS
I Spy with my little eye that G is...
VOTE:
1. Tattoo
2. Profile/shadow
3. Building.
4. Skyline
5. Water

I thought she meant read covers of other teams' colors, but they each have to be a different color.
The instructions look good, but I am also a bit close to it.

I will send out the messages to the other team members tonight.
For 13, I vote for 1 with 2 a close second.
I'm not going to do a cover challenge, so I'll let others vote --- I mostly either read library books, where I don't have control over the cover or on my kindle :-)

Category 13
Genre Mania
POST 110
Category 12
Yes I was referring to reading the other Team colors - 5 different colors.
POST 111
Category 10G
Tattoo

Thanks Barbara! I knew it there would be things wrong in there. I will fix it.

Whose idea was Genre Mania?
Right now, Barbara votes for Genre Mania while JoLene is slightly more preferential to How Do I Love Thee over Genre Mani?
So it would be me or Jingles to break the tie. But in any case, I wanted more information as to how Genre Mania works.
Genre Mania: Pick a favorite genre and read 5 books each with a different sub-genre books.
I think I know what is being asked here, but if you can explain it or do an example so we all know how it works. I would vote for this if what I am thinking is how it works. I think most people will be thrown off with the sub-genre wording. SO I just wanted to make sure people understand.

For Category #10, I vote for Option #10G.
With that being said, Category #13, option 1 is one of the categories that I would probably be doing, while I would probably skip 10G.
My strategy for this challenge (as well as any others I do) is to do the easier tasks first, and the ones that appeal to me the most. Then, if time permits, I go back to cover "secondary" tasks (those that appeal to me, but are not quite as easy).
I must confess that I'm one that prefers the easier challenge tasks, instead of the harder ones.
Still, I will participate in whatever we decide.

If no big objection, I want to submit this to the mods for approval.

Genre mania was one that I had thought of based on a comment from Barbara where she was gave us a listing of sub-genres. We would need to make that list available in order for it to work (I think).
Looks good to submit :-D
We might want to say that you will credit a post in the sister group which is where the tracking thread will go.

Message 120 and 94 are same (I did a quick double check), so they should have no problem. I will create a new thread as soon as I get approval from the mods and I will post here and our main group page to direct them where to start their tracking thread if they are interested in organizing their books together.

K...it might be one of those obvious to us kind of thing again, but I will add it in the rules.

Is that an approval? :)

Right!

Thanks Lisa Kay!

Here is the link for the Connect 5 - August Challenge. Its early still , but if you want to participate and/or make a post early and decide your reading list/tracker. You can reserve your space at: Connect 5 - August Challenge

can you make a few corrections?
#9 has a note to self [possibly move...]
#15 also has a note to self (I was thinking...)
these might be confusing to members who weren't involved in the creation process.

2. Go Team Mauvelous: Read 5 books using the Spell it out rules using first word of title, authors first or last name or series title.
The Five books they are reading....what are they going to spell out: Mauve (5 letter) or Team Mauvelous (5 from the 2 words).

Here's the link to my bookshelves: http://www.goodreads.com/review/list/...

I already started with some...but didn't have time to do much. I was planning to steal from your GR shelves anyways since I know you keep location and book covers/colors as shelves. But its good you gave me the links...saved me time. LOL.

That's what I was thinking too...but I figured until August I will try not to add anything to the other thread so they don't end up having their spot in like message 60...so that's why I made so many reserved spot so I can use it to put things in them. But I am putting all my questions here
Feel free to raid mine, too. They start on Page 4 of my bookshelves and start with the word "setting." If a book is set in a U.S.A. state, it start with "setting-usa-state name."

Oh my gosh, Barbara. Wow!!
That is just fantastic! I'm going to have to start doing this, I think.
Books mentioned in this topic

ok I got ur votes...I don't have 8 listed for the vote so I will fix that. the others are already an option or its on the ballot to be voted. I will fix message 94 tonight with instructions
