Adelexo I think that life isn't just about falling in love with some guy. The way how she act, that was just wrong.

Nurlely I remember my and my friends' break up. We thought the world had ended and we were the poorest souls in this world. But as teenagers, we were also scared with death that it prevented us from ending ourselves just to see the darn boyfriends.

Bella is a bad sample to teenagers. Freaking happy to have her boyfriend in her bedroom in the middle of the night and endangered herself to see Edward again? Weird.

Kirby I just have a quick question for those of you who are saying that this book sends a bad message to young girls b/c Bella and Edward fall in love too deeply too quickly...what is your stand on Romeo and Juliet? every copy should be burned, right? so that 14 year old girls won't fall instantly in love and then kill themselves when they can't have him?

message 204: by Teri (new) - rated it 2 stars

Teri I think it is a good story-- speaking of the whole series, not just this book-- but needs better editing. It just goes on too long, it just needs some sharpening.

message 205: by Ryan (new) - rated it 3 stars

Ryan Because it fully introduced the dog (Jacob) into the story.

message 206: by Naomi (new)

Naomi of the Rargle Corporation Badly written, pathetic characters, non-existant plot. In short, one of the worst books ever. Stephanie Meyer is undoubtedly the world's worst author, EVER.
I will say no more.

Nurlely Kirby wrote: "what is your stand on Romeo and Juliet? every copy should be burned, right? so that 14 year old girls won't fall instantly in love and then kill themselves when they can't have him? ..."

First of all, Romeo and Juliet story was set in a different era. Long time ago. Juliet was not written as independent girl, simply a young one from a rich family. She might be a spoiled one. And Juliet's neighborhood was not big enough for her to meet more boys in her age. As a rich girl, the number of boys she could meet was even lessened since she could not meet various kind of boys but ones with similar high level. Even Romeo came from a rich family. When Romeo, ONE WHOM SHE HAD MARRIED, died, her willingness to live also died with him.

Bella was an independent girl in a modern era. She was able to survive her parents' bad marriage. And Edward was not even married to him. It was nothing more than a break-up between lovers. To see Edward, Bella was willing to put herself in danger, even to a stage when she could die.

Teenagers do not really care about Romeo and Juliet's tragedy. Regardless the amazing love story, everything was in the past. Teenagers do not really care what people in older era did with love. But Twilight is set to the present time, The era where teenagers also live and can take it as a sample of what teenagers do when they are in love. That you should be happy when your boyfriend shows up in your bedroom in the middle of the night and that you can do anything to see him. Certainly bad samples!

I love the books but the actress that played Bella i dont like and i would do anything to touch Taylor's chest and abs Ohmigoddess

Heather Sexton I like this series but I also see where everyone else is coming from. This was the worst book in the series. Mostly because there wasn't enough (if any) action. Plus she spent WAY too much time on the background of the wolves at the meeting they were having. It bored me to no end. The rest of series is good but have to say since the movies came out I have't been able to reread the books. Mostly because now all I see are Kristen and Robert and that's just not how I pictured them in the book.

message 210: by Emilie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Emilie Bella, like any fiction or non fiction character is allowed to get depressed. New Moon had to be a sad book. Edward had become her whole life after moving to Forks and when he left, it shattered her heart. People react differently in this type of situation. If you were in her shoes, how would you react? New Moon is my favorite book in the saga because of the raw emotion which I crave when reading a good novel.

message 211: by Emma (new) - rated it 2 stars

Emma In my opinion New Moon was a nothing book...nothing happened. They could've totally made it a trilogy and skipped this one because it's all about Bella being depressed ://

message 212: by Vem (new) - rated it 3 stars

Vem Night i just hated this book...

vasiliki well to be honest i actually like new moon with all the unhealthy n dark way that stephenie describes the way that edward&bella feel for each other n' the new aspect of bella's character that we discover but i just hate the jacob scenes!!can't we just skip all the pages??:]

message 214: by Alex (new) - rated it 4 stars

Alex ahlert its sad but sico killing yourself over a guy ok but dont go exterme and the book was way 2 boring nothing really happened in the book unlike the 1st book

message 215: by Alexanne (last edited Sep 11, 2011 02:32PM) (new) - rated it 4 stars

Alexanne Urgh, what teenagers act the way Edward and Bella do? They act almost like Romeo and Juliet: so serious and hopelessly in love with each other, they need to be around eachother every second of the day. BUT because they're so consumed with each other they fail to express any other emotion to another human being that's not each other (as if Edward and Bella are in their own little world) I understand that in order to create the dark, gloomy environment that suits the life of a vampire, Meyer choose a place that suits that mood: Forks. But did Meyer have to make the character of Bella be as depressing as her new town? Geez, this girl came from a hot place (was it Phoenix?) so shouldn't she act more like a 'California Girl'? You know, cheerful, fun in the sun. Not that all people who come from hot places are chirpy, it's just that she acts like she's been stuck in a basement all her life. The only reason why I preferred New Moon over the rest of the books (well I liked Twilight) was because I loved Jake and I wanted Bella to choose him. I liked being able to see more of him and see him grow in to the story.
But yeah, everyone's right. Nothing much happened in New Moon in terms of action and story. But I was in love with Jake so I liked this one the most. Jake gets screwed over in all the other ones.
So basically the story of Twilight is like that of Romeo and Juliet: The Modern Emo version and Romeo is a vampire.

message 216: by Cris (new) - rated it 5 stars

Cris I dont agree with everyone saying she was trying to kill herself just to see edward. Im pretty sure she knew she wouldnt die from jumping off a cliff into the water. The act itself is scary and that danger is what she was looking for in hopes she would see him. What almost drowned her was her seeing victoria in the water and trying to get away from her and getting caught up in the current. i think they were trying to portray how deep the loss of not only her true love was but also her best friend. I mean it was a little exagerated but it was a fictional story. We have no trouble believing she can fall in love with a vampire but we cant wrap our head aroung her being depressed about it.

Danielle I agree, Bella's character is so badly written it's painful. Her whole role as the completely helpless girl who just stands in awe of the magnificience that is Edward is both annoying and degrading. Meyer's book the Host has characters who are much more fleshed out and real. The whole Twilight series is simply teen girl romantic fluff and should not be considered as serious vampire fiction literature.

NICE. AND WELL-SAID. i mean for the people who hated this book, think about if myer didn't write this one. the reader whould have know what it would do to bella. despite that i dont like this plat of new moon i think this book was 100% nesscessary to the series.

True Image Couldn’t get into the books, but in the movies I’m not sure if it was the actress or the character, I found her very annoying.

Danielle You are not alone in disliking this book, don't worry.

707ChelseaH I think this book is great, sorry to those of you who dont. But Bella was a bit obsessive, and over the top.

message 222: by [deleted user] (new)

Honestly i liked reading the books but Bella in my opinion is an idiot. She tried to kill herself just to see Edward.

message 223: by Sara (new) - added it

Sara She's not a weak character, but she does have a weak personality (if you get what I'm saying). She's much too dependent on other people (mostly Edward and Jacob).

I personally don't like her as a character.

iomai Brittany wrote: "Its horribly written! And Bella is annoying."

ikr! i got tired of the stories from the pack and i just skipped it. plus Bella is the stupidest human EVER! Only she can get dumped by a shinny vampire then run and find herself a werewolf.

message 225: by QR (new) - added it

QR The book isn't supposed to be an example for young kids. I don't think young kids should even be reading this book, and as a parent if you expect this book to be a role model for your kid, then that's just bad parenting. At 13+, its ok to read this book because then you can start to somewhat think for yourself.
Bella Swan is a fictional character, and though she is relatable, she is not real. That's right, no normal person acts the way she does when they get dumped, but that's the point! It's supposed to be insane and crazy and stupid. The only thing I liked about New Moon was the depression and Jacob. Everything else was just poor.
Personally, I take the novel as a satire, even though Meyer didn't intend for it to be that way. To me it says "Look at this! It's insane! Don't be like this!" But to each his/her own.

Rihab Sebaaly WITH ALL MY RESPECT TO U.. BUT I GUESS ITS SO UNFAIR TO JUDGE A BOOK LIKE THIS ONE WITHOUT READ IT.. believe me the writer is not trying here to show u some hero but to show u the reactions of a very normal girl

A normal girl would throw herself off a cliff if a guy dumps her? A normal girl would be constantly putting herself in danger in order to hear hallucinations? I've read the book 3 times and I'm actually on chapter seven now. I probably understand it better than you do. I love the depression and the relationship with Jacob, yes the writing is poor but it has a lyrical prose quality that I definitely enjoy. I don't think the depression is at all realistic but it's an enjoyable read.

Rihab Sebaaly dear nazzy ... first hi :)
second i guess every one has its own reaction .. so maybe u will not jump to see the face of Edward put bella does... don't try to judge the book only by trying to understand one hero...
third who is the one who told u that by reading a book 3 times u will understand it better ??... I respect ur way but i prefer to enjoy every book once ...

no one told me that reading a book three times makes me understand it more...im just trying to prove a point, im not an ignorant fool who disses books and fads before understanding them first. New Moon is actually my favourite of the Twilight books

I wouldn't say he's taking over her life. Edward just wants whats best for her. She was a no one before him. and He was just a pretty face. They work so well together <3

seriously, thank you! it's so good to find someone who understood this book the same way i did.
despite what one thinks about SM writing abilities i believe she succeeded in expressing the angst of first true love.
glad to see I'm not alone. :)

I m with u too. I like how SM wrote these books.. the love between the 2 was amazing.maybe we miss a love like that now .. maybe we are so busy now and we don't find time to share a love like that one

Ann-Marie I read the entire series. I didn't really enjoy it till the tail end and the only reason I got that far is because I kept hoping somehow it would get a smidgen better. I am a science fiction/fantasy fanatic, so the fact that all of a sudden at the end when characters start showing up that have interesting powers for a final battle, that intrigued me. After that I felt the entire story leading up to the ending was anti-climatic and disapointing.

I agree with many of you that Bella was annoying and whiny and needed to grow a back bone and have a little spunk. She irratated me to no end. I read the books simply to be able to say that I read them and be able to participate in conversation when the topic arose. I did not like Edward. I realize that his character is supposed to have lived several decades prior to the time set but I would hope that he could adapt and adjust his personality a little better to fit the times. The sparkling thing just threw me. Classic vampires just don't sparkle... super human strength and speed yes... sparkling no. As for Jacob and the werewolves... meh... not a whole lot you can do to jack up the mythology behind werewolves.

As for getting teenagers to read: Great! Fan-freaking-tastic... now go read something that has a little more substance. I know several other books that have vamps and werewolves with more plot and ideas that make people actually think about what is happening. Then those who feel like they can graduate up to big kid books can have their world opened up by many other great authors with stories and lessons to tell. I just don't understand how some fans (aka: twi-hards)have said these books will be the ones they only read. Why limit yourself to sub-par reading material?
