Kaye NO! THE TWILIGHT SERIES SUCK! THEY ARE WRITTEN SO THAT A TEN YEAR OLD CAN UNDERSTAND IT! THAT IS SO NOT COOL!

message 52: by [deleted user] (new)

I couldn't even finish this book. Between the writing and Bella it was just too annoying.

Vanessa Cotter poop you all!

message 54: by [deleted user] (new)

Those books were written for fun not literature. Poorly written maybe but they captured the hearts of thousands of teens and grown women apparently. :)

message 55: by [deleted user] (new)

Since this discussion is titled "Why I don't like this book" I think these criticisms are valid despite the thousands of teens and grown women who apparently have taken it to their hearts.

haha yes cheers to that(:

Kelsey hahaha poop yall wow tf

Sicina I don't like the Twilight series (esp. New Moon) because of the charakter Bella. Her character makes me cringe as a female of this century. I can totally understand the feeling of a consuming and obessed teenage crush. But Bella is passive and worst of all she doesn't seem to have any self-esteem and confidence. She always marvels Edwards extraordinary beauty, while she can't believe that he is able to love her, since there is nothing special about her. Bella gets more and more dependet on Edward, she has no hobbies, no personal interests and even friends and family are perfectly replaceable. That is just sad and a bad example for young teenage girls.

Kaye to Sonia and Vanessa... i am a writer and as a writer i am offended by the terrible writing Stephanie Meyer does... i dont care if it 'touches thousands of women and girls'... that just makes you simpletons who can only get into a queer little werewolf/vampire love triangle... by the way... Stephanies ideas of the werewolf and vampires are completely wrong... first off... all the characters are shallow... second, vampires do not sparkle in the sun... they turn to ash... she just annoys me beyond all annoyance... id explain further but my blood pressure is going up...

Ummm..many people on Goodreads are writers. I am a writer and if I can capture hearts like Meyers did, I will be thrilled. I refuse to writer like her but I will not take away her success. Those "Simpletons" are the readers. :)

message 71: by drew (new)

drew I am sorry.

Delia Kaye wrote: "to Sonia and Vanessa... i am a writer and as a writer i am offended by the terrible writing Stephanie Meyer does... i dont care if it 'touches thousands of women and girls'... that just makes you s..."

When you write you make your own rules. Vampires could be weakened by the moon if she wished so. Would it really be fun if all the vampires were the same?
I say kudos to her for selling a book to millions of teens AND adults.

Kaye Its not even that... she writes childishly... you want to read a real book... try Patrick Rothfuss's 'Name of the Wind' and 'Wise Man's Fear' those are real books... i dont care that her vampires sparkle and her werewolves are mangy muts... i care that she has fooled an entire nation... taking the spotlight from people who really deserve it... Until you read those books... don't tell me that she is a good writer...

Nurlely I am not so fond of Twilight series, even dislike some parts. Love book 1, not so for book 2, book 3 is okay, book 4 is annoying.

Kaye wrote: " Stephanies ideas of the werewolf and vampires are completely wrong... first off... all the characters are shallow... second, vampires do not sparkle in the sun... they turn to ash..."

Stephenie's idea of vampire world is totally different with others. The glittering part is new. The story focused on love, not specifically about vampires, except when it comes to the end of book 2 and so on.
But still...we do not know the fact about vampires. We read stories about them. All the novels are listed under 'Fiction' which needs no further explanation. Until you have an experience with vampire(s) yourself, you can not really say what is right or wrong about them.

Savannah ^^i fully agree with you^^

message 76: by Danielle (new) - added it

Danielle I think my favourite is New Moon, I don't know why considering that Edwards not in it much and I quite like him. Anyway, I do understand that the books havent got much emotional scope but they are interestingly thought out and the concept is...original. Thats just my thoughts :)

Thanks for that. My point exactly.

Delia Kaye wrote: "Its not even that... she writes childishly... you want to read a real book... try Patrick Rothfuss's 'Name of the Wind' and 'Wise Man's Fear' those are real books... i dont care that her vampires s..."

Millions of people woudn't have bought her book if it wasn't at least decent. These books introduced me to reading. These books made a whole entire nation start reading, how can that be a negative thing?

Most readers are teenagers and the writing is perfect if you're just starting out with reading, like I was when the books first came out. Stop bashing her work. I read from dickens to shakespeare to twilight. Sure, he writing style is basic and simple, but why is that bad? I'm so happy she made so many teenagers that would have been otherwise uninterested in books start reading. Now if that's not wonderful ...

Sicina I agree totally that it's a good thing, that those books introduced many teenagers, like my little sister, to reading. Even though i would prefer that my sister (and all other teenagers) reads more exemplary books. Time will tell.

message 80: by Kaye (last edited Apr 28, 2011 07:31AM) (new) - rated it 1 star

Kaye @ Delia... you just proved my point there sweetheart.. clue word... introduced you to reading... bah! I've read books with thicker plots and better characters.. who dont sparkle... mind you... and thats been since i was like 8... and sure its wonderful that a whole bunch of half brained nim-wits finally stay inside and read for once... oh yeah the world will totally be smarter... except for one thing... its so basic that the little half brained nim-wits dont know how to read a real book...
hey, twilight fans, do the world of writers a favor and get a real opinion on writing... crack open a 994 paged book! The smaller the words the better... instead of gigantic text for half brained nim-wits like the twilight series... so you think your reading a thick book... read some real authors and then have an opinion... and if you have read other books and LOVE Stephanie Meyer... then you two belong together... that way all the half brained nim-wits can stick together in a true debate about writing... yeah lets just gang up the whole Nation of Twilight fans against ten well-read full-brained readers and see who wins... i bet you wont... besides... i thought this was a 'why i dont like this book' discussion... Twilight fans... GET OFF!!! because technically... im the one who is allowed to rant about how crappy a writer Stephanie Meyer is... considering this is a haters discussion... i.e. my floor...

Kaye @message 70: you shame all the future writers in the world... you are a disgrace to writing and words itself... Stephanie meyer doesnt even do any good to the world either... at least with Harry Potter people were opened up to a wide world of imagination... with stephanie meyer... the best she did was support abstinance... correction... she supports abstinance with vampires... forget that... people should be ashamed that they are reading ridiculous books such as the twilight series... ha! you poor poor souls...

Amber @Kaye: the amount of pages a book has, has nothing to do with the quality of a book! there are amazing books with less pages than the Twilight series!
i'm pretty sure if you wrote a 994 paged book, it would be an amaaaaazing book! congrats to you.

Delia Kaye wrote: "@message 70: you shame all the future writers in the world... you are a disgrace to writing and words itself... Stephanie meyer doesnt even do any good to the world either... at least with Harry Po..."

are you ashamed you read twilight, then? What good would that do, huh? Reading books you consider bad helps you understand what you like and don't like, which is a positive outcome. I don't see why anyone should be ashamed of the things they like.

Kaye @Amber: currently in my previous and present book... i am not an amazing author... if i thought i was i would not be an author at all but a moron... as Patrick Rothfuss said, he is my favorite author, if an author believes they are accomplished and thier is no room for improvement... then thier creativity will cease... i believe this whole heartedly... but i am a deep thought writer... the process for writing is more in depth and more detailed... that is why i critisize Stephanie as well... she is not deserving of the spotlight... Patrick Rothfuss is... i am sure he is superior in thought, mind, writing, and 'touching the hearts of thousands of people' as his tale has been said to recreate fantasy as none other has... you would be wise to read his books... it will do you the utmost good...

@Delia... yes i am ashamed i was even interested in the Twilight series... at most points i skimmed through the book and found it not to my taste... especially the last books... Twilight was okay... but then she started mouching money off of it... a real writer does not write for money... they write because they love words... it is the only thing we writers have...

Amber @Kaye: That's cute!
I'd rather not read him since I like to read the good oldies. Like Shiller & Goethe. But thanks anyway sweetie :*

message 86: by Delia (last edited Apr 28, 2011 08:59AM) (new) - rated it 3 stars

Delia @Kaye Well, writers should be humble. A quality you seem to lack of. Writers are known to be open minded and tolerant, two other qualities you seem to lack of.
They also know that your learn by making mistakes and never should it ever be considered a shame. If making mistakes is a shame how will ever become a good writer?

Humility dear, is one of the best qualities a writer can have.

Kaye hahahahahahaha... i have humility, my sweet... i am quite a humble person... i'd tell you all about it... but i hate telling my own story... thats just a pity sake and i dont like people pitying me... i am very open-minded to arguments... yes... but to books and authors... no... there are some that deserve my approval and some that don't... and believe me, darling, i have made a great deal of mistakes in my life... in fact i will admit one and apologize to show you just how humble i am... i am not afraid of humility, dearest... in fact... i am utterly sorry that my comments have offended you... it was my mistake in coming into this discussion i thought was for haters and venting my frustration... another thing that writers possess is the ability to understand mistakes... to outwit... hold thier ground in thier beliefs... you see i was currently pent up with anger on another book and seeing that we were all lovers of the same book i just couldnt release my anger at them... they are dearest friends... so i came where no one knew me... where i could be amongst people who agree with me... my mistake in mis-understanding that this is a discussion for fans... please dont let my imprudent accusations disturb the twilight love fest... also dearest Delia... you may be believing that you are winning... but dearest... you have lost this argument... how? you may ask... because you made a flaw... a mess of yourself... by your logic mistakes are not shameful, and by your logic if i dont make mistakes and believe they are not shameful, then how will i ever be a good writer? well i will answer that question... i learn and understand the world around me... i see and hear things no one else can even imagine... and though i am not crazy, i do believe my words are gifted to me and that they speak to me... so dearest humility isnt the best quality... understanding is... for how can you write about an experience if you have never experienced it? you understand it... that is how... you understand each movement... each flow... each word... until your head spins and you wake up quoting things you have never heard before... until your sleeping mind is so full of words that your fingers, your mouth, and your ears ache to relieve your mind... with understanding, i found that Twilight was a waste of my valuable time... that people are not as smart as they want to be when it comes to thier opinions... that persuasion is a gift that Stephanie failed to use to her critics... you see Delia... i understand that if an author doesnt have a critic... then how will they ever improve... when a puppy pees on the carpet... you dont pat it on the back and tell it 'good girl'... you shove its face in its pee and spank it... hard... that is how authors are... if we have no room for improvement... then we cannot improve... i improve everyday... so darling... you are wrong... and remember... never fight with a developing author who has understanding in thier eyes... for that you will only be laughed at... hahaha

Delia I think there is no point arguing with you. Clearly you think you're the best and no matter what I'll say you will write a paragraph of nonsense and add a million dots to it so that it looks well written.

All you did is prove me right. By making mistakes you learn how to improve and that's everything. That's exactly what I was saying earlier, thank you for agreeing with me.

Your ego will get in your way sooner or later. And who are you to tell me I don't have understanding in my eyes, heart, soul ... In fact it is pretty funny you talk about being understanding of words, when clearly you understand only yourself and are too quick to judge others.

*TheWrittenWord*Mo I know this is a book website, on which people discuss books an all, I get that and understand that. But reading comments like the ones on this thread and many other threads saddens me. Why do people say such hateful things?? I might sound real naive and innocent by saying this or whatever, and maybe i am, but let me ask you this. What do you get out of saying mean things about and to other peopl? does it make you feel better about yourself? Do you feel satisfied? Happy? I don't think you do, but I can't be sure about.
And I know that the things you say are your opinion but ... I'm sorry I being such a spoil-sport or whatever it's just... there is so much anger in this world, so much hate and I don't see my people keep adding to it. I am not saying everyonoe does btw, just some.
That's all I have to say really.

i really do hate how bella is portrayed i fervently agree that her character should show some more backbone. i do like the famous idea that true love hurts but surely this is a step too far. i found the reading of these books okay the first time but at a second i found myself getting annoyed and fustrated with bella"!

Kaye To Delia: yeah, i know im an egotistical bitch... i try to change that, but sometimes i think to myself 'Hey, God gave me this spite, might as well use it' and i'm not really this mean... i think my lady days are doing thier toll on me and i like a good argument every now and then, it reminds me i have a soul... and fire... so sorry you became my victim... but hey thats a compliment... that means i found you worthy as an opponent... you really know how to hold your end of the fight... kudos... and the dots are out of habit... sorry... ...hahaha
To Thewrittenword: thanks, i needed to be reminded of my goals in life... so yeah... again thankyou... your a smart person... do you know that? very insightful... :)

P.S. Delia: Thanks... believe it or not... you helped to humble me... and...i learned alot from our chat... see i can be humble... seriously... not being a bitch right now... lol... well i learned a few lessons today folks... DON'T GANG UP ON OTHER WRITERS, ESPECIALLY WHEN YOUR FEELING SHITTY ABOUT YOUR WORK CAUSE YOU HAVE WRITERS BLOCK. DONT MESS WITH A WRITERS FANS. BE HUMBLE. STAY OUT OF ARGUMENTS. REMEMBER WORLD PEACE, ALWAYS. DONT PICK FIGHTS WHEN YOUR MENSTRATING, YOU ALWAYS END UP OPENING YOUR MOUTH AND INSERTING YOUR FOOT. AND NEVER, EVER, EVER, BE AN OVERLY EGOTISTICAL BITCH, YOU MIGHT END UP REGRETING IT. Are we okay now Delia?

Delia Sure we are. I always like an argument. Keeps me feeling alive as you said. My challenge was English isn't my mother tongue and I wish I could have expressed myself a little better.

You are a worthy opponent as well. Kudos & farewell!

Kaye Farewell... by the way... what is your mother tongue? just curious...

Delia French & Italian! Both were spoken to me ever since I was born.

Nurlely I met a vampire yesterday. It was a bright morning. The handsome vampire told me that they come out before evening comes since the moon might will them....

Just a thought!

message 100: by Calli (new) - rated it 1 star

Calli This book made me die a little bit. And not in that "undead" kind of way.

I don't get why Meyer assumes that we will like Bella even though she doesn't give her a personality. She keeps on saying that all the boys are interested in her and apparently she is crazy-appealing to supernatural boys, but, for God's sake, why? She sees no point to living for MONTHS after the boy she's been dating leaves her. At this point they've only been dating, what, a few weeks? Good lord, being dumped is not that bad. Way to give us a healthy role model, Meyer.

Bella also seems to think it is totally fine to use Jacob to make herself feel better while she figures out how to get vamp-boy back. Good to know it's fine to play with people's emotions as long as they are not the main character.

This is all completely besides the point that the writing is awful. Meyer doesn't care about silly things like character development and plot because she is too busy writing out her own fantasies. It's like extended, badly-written fanfic of an Anne Rice novel that got published as a joke.

Can you tell I hated this? Because I did. And I am horrified that these books have now become the obsession of a generation who thinks that it is ok to:
-become obsessed with a complete stranger instantly.
-decide that all rudeness and hostility from said stranger is just because he secretly likes you so much.
-use others to woo said stranger.
-decide all other relationships and life itself are worthless if that stranger leaves you.
-be willing to give up your entire life and all other relationships to be with the stranger WHO ADMITS THAT HE IS BAD FOR YOU.
-be flattered instead of completely freaked out to find out that this stranger has been sneaking into your room at night to watch you sleep.

Not normal, guys. Not normal, and not healthy.
