omg that would be an insane twist!!!!!
I don't know that I think she's an alien but I'm totally prepared to bow down to you if that turns out to be the case! So far I'm in a bit of a Shatter/Unravel Me Hangover so I'm missing Mafi's writing style but I think I'll love this book once I actually sit down and read more than the first 20 pages!!!
How are you/everyone else finding it??

Although it looks big,the chapters are really short and it seems to be a quick read!

And as a little note - we are going to be reading the last chapter a tiny bit faster, right Angela?? To finish by the 26th so we can talk about it live! :)

How would you guys survive in this world if you were Cassie? Would you have shot the man with the crucifix? I keep going back and forth on if I would have or not.
I wondered why they took the kids on the bus and not Cassie. She's still young. Are they going to bread the kids like live stock or experiment on them or something? I hope Sammy's alive still, but I doubt it.
When the black hawk helicopter came and they all ran outside I was like screaming in my head at them. I wouldn't have trusted it! It's crazy how any order the guy running the shelter had was thrown out the window the second they saw the helicopter.
I also wondered, what if the aliens were immune to our guns. Cassie got lucky that shooting the fake soldier worked.

I keep being going back and forth on shooting the crucifix soldier as well, but I think I would have.
I don't know what they are doing with the young kids, it's scary! What is that first priority thing all about?
No way would I have trusted the plane, but then again when you have been desperate for government saviors, who knows.
I think the guns work or they wouldn't have taken them when they were all rounded up if that makes sense??? I'd like to think I wouldn't have shot the guy but I probably would have. I wonder what they're doing with the kids too- I don't know about breeding because they only kept ones too young to breed. Maybe they're keeping ones that will be easier to mold Into something they want? Which would be why they didn't take her- she's a fully formed person. If that make sense??

What's your favourite parts/quotes so far?
I really liked how Yancey did that part where Cassie was running and he done it in photo frames, I would have imagined because of the blinking and pulsing of "the eye" that is what it would have felt like to Cassie, but I think that was a unique way of portraying that scene…very original.
Here are a few of my favourite quotes:-

Ya Lindsay that makes sense. I hope it's not like The Host and they don't take over their bodies.
I like the part with the photo frames too. It was really easy to picture in my mind and very unique like you said. Also, the quote about the people looting beer made me laugh because sadly it's true. I could see people doing that.
I'm not sure I would survive, lol. (A fast metabolism would be the end of me). I think she has the right idea from what I've seen though. Stay vigilant and don't trust anyone unless you are absolutely positive. I think I probably would have shot the man, it only takes a second to make a decision like that under high stress and I probably would have freaked just the same as she did. I think the kid thing has to do with that prologue. They did something to the babies before they were born and now they are rounding them, maybe.
I'm still confused on how exactly she made the conclusion that the soldiers were aliens...did I miss something? I mean it makes sense when we think about them taking the kids and such but how did she know.
I have a question as well. Cassie classified everyone as runners or campers, which do you think you would be?

True, because it didn't seem like they wanted the kids in danger, the kids all seemed happy to be there despite having left their parents, any thoughts?

Angela there's 12 sections, is that the sections your speaking off? Eg. Section 3 is called "Silencer"? Is there a schedule where the sections to read for the week is noted rather than chapters? I'm up to Chapter 31, Section 3: Silencter.

And that's true about being under stress makes you do different things. Now that I think about it that way I probably would have just pulled the trigger and asked questions later lol
I'd probably be a camper only because Idk where I'd go. At least near home you know where certain resources are. I'd probably just take my family and hide in the woods somewhere or something.
I think she knew they were aliens when she saw they had weapons or something and then when her dad started acting weird. Idk I'd have to reread I can't really remember either.

But seriouslyI'd be a very closeted camper, stockpiling, creepy hermit-type person. I'd dig a hole out of my apartment which I would turn into a bunker type thing. Use no doors... Etc...

She didn't know if they were aliens or not - she just knew her dad didn't trust them and wanted her to not be there. She kept repeating the "how do you know who your enemies are" advice her dad gave her (they're the ones pointing the gun or w/e) Only afterwards she THOUGHT maybe they were not humans and that was why they had the masks on.
I'd think I would be a camper too...I live near lakes and woods, as well as other houses and stores. So I would think the resources would be plentiful...though I would kind of hope everyone else would leave. I live in what use to be rural Georgia, so there is a very good chance that most of my neighbors already own weapons...and humans are usually worse than the 'enemies'.Hmm that does make sense Lindsay, I didn't really think of that way.

I'm on chapter 26 now and I so didn't see the POV switch coming. I don't particularly like Cassie even though she's strong. I just don't have an emotional bond to her. So it's hard for me to really care what happens to her.
I think it's because I hated the back in forth between past and further back past.
My first thought when she first mentioned the buses was Nazi concentration camps. I was like no way in hell should anyone be getting on the bus with the 'military' men.

Ange, I'm sorry I confused you calling them sections!! I didn't have the chapter guide in front of me while I was typing. At the top of the group page you can see the book with all the chapters and dates listed.

I actually thought that the Author excelled in this part of the book. I don't know if I like how he done that, but I certainly felt that was well done, I didn't get at all confused about the back and forth between time line.
I'm behind on reading since I had the discussion date wrong but this book is hitting too close to home since I live in Dayton near Wright-Patt. So weird to see it mentioned in a book along with Cincinnati. I feel like I wouldn't have been safe living so close to an Air Force base.
Oh wow that must be really weird!! I know some what how you feel...The Walking Dead takes place in Georgia. So seeing places I've been to on the screen filled with zombies freaks me out, lol. How are you liking it?

Lol Jersey Shore...I'm so sorry you have to see that in your state. The scene where Rick Grimes is riding through Atlanta gives me chills every single time...it's so empty and unnatural. o_o I would probably be super paranoid if I lived that close to the base. At least while I was reading, but then again it probably helps with envisioning everything.
