That is up to you. You may use the same book for multiple challenges - I love trying to see how many challenges I can fit one book into. With the team challenges, the rules will be specified there, but you may use the same book for a team challenge and an individual challenge (or two or three....or more).

Works for me

Pick a challenge you like and just post you're in. You could also start setting up for challenge (duration, level, steps you need, books you'll read,... it depends on challenge) or you can edit your post later when you figure out details.
Best way is to go to challenge you want to try and check other posts. In most cases they are more-less the same.
If you're asking about team challenge, again, you post in challenge thread you're in and usually there are few questions you need to answer (those help us to make teams)

Oh good. I was secretly hoping that was the case. Thanks. :)

You'll need lot of leg-work.
Go to edit profile and then to emails. There you'll find set-up for notifications and mails.
To stop getting notifications for group go to bottom of the page until you get to groups and check there what you have set up. There you can remove all notifications from a group. To get then only you want, you need to go topic by topic and start following them again (at the bottom of each thread)
Hope this makes any sense to you.

We are still working on it, so there isn't anything posted here yet. We are trying to time it so the sign-ups go with next newsletter. In case we don't make it, we'll broadcast message to members when signups are open. Don't worry, you won't miss it. :) Sign-ups will be open for a week at least (I think usually it was even longer) so there'll be plenty of time to join in.

On main group page, under group description you'll find You are a member. Edit | Group info. Click on edit and you'll see there Leave this group.

Sign-ups will probably still be up when you get back. Don't worry :)

You have friend request from Mod account so you can be invited :)

I'm not quite sure what it stands for, but it goes for people doing discussion questions. When we are reading books of the month, then we ask people who want to participate to ask few questions about each section so we could start discussions that way.
Before reading starts, we usually assign everyone (who wanted to do DQs) one day.

It's not only in BOM threads. We usually do it everywhere. :)
That's in case we need to add something later (for example breakdown). We 'reserve' couple of posts at the beginning so all info is in one place and it's easier to find later. Since you can't move posts around, it's better to be prepared. :)
Just think how 'easy' it would be to find breakdown in some chattier threads if we didn't reserve posts upfront and had to post it in the middle of that chat :P

We had pretty awesome teachers! They were the ones that learned the hard way :D

Thanks for the answers

Okay, all fixed now. Since it only starts on the 22nd, the breakdown isn't done yet - I'll ask the other mods if they have a physical copy to do it.
And yes, the first contact with the group can be a bit intimidating - we used to be named Nothing But Reading Challenges for a reason - we changed it last year because we have a lot more than challenges. Like the 3 BOMs a month and a bunch of buddy readings.
Any question, just ask away, it may not be answered as quick as this one, but we are usually around.
Happy Readings :)

I keep eyeing the RPGs, but I have no idea where to start or how. Is there an introductory one for folks who don't know if they'd like them or not, perhaps not a year-long one? Some place that explains how they work and where we can ask silly questions? I guess I'm envisioning an "RPG for Beginners", if that exists.
Thanks!

There's not a RPG for Beginners right now but I can look into writing one.
I recommend looking over the rules first. You can start with just one part of the challenge (i.e. leveling up your weapons, or quests) then work on adding other parts as you get the hang of things.
If you want you can try the first free quest of introducing yourself and get your introductory free experience points :)
Since you've done a number of challenges already with our group, I recommend starting with a few quests that look fun for you and treat them like normal challenges. Keep track of what they give you in the end and add experience points to your total til you level up.
If you have questions you can ask in the Tavern and usually someone gets back to you right away. You can also look around others logs to see how people organize their quest and what might work well for you.

Thanks.

Don't worry :) Everyone's willing to help answer questions over there.

Those teams are part of our team challenge. You don't have to part of it to discuss book with rest of us. They are only putting team names because they get extra point if they are reading and discussing BOMs.
That doesn't mean that if you like our team challenge and want to join, you can't. Just read rules and when you are sure you want to participate in something like that, sign-up.
Again, BOMs don't have anything to do with teams. You can do them even if you aren't part of challenge. More the merrier :)

How do I add a spoiler link to my reviews, posts etc?
When I reply to someones post does it quote their original post? Or is it something different I need to do?

For using spoilers, check here
As for reply:
Your post shows certain number of characters from previous post (see top of mine :P) when you click on reply. If it's not part of what you wanted quoted, you can always edit that part with copy/paste from post you are replying to.
Same goes with quoting two multiple posts. You click reply on posts you want to reply, they all show up in your comment box, and then you play with them. ☺
Oh, and reply thing only works on site. If you are using app, you can't reply to any post.
And Shandy to add a spoiler, you start with
< spoiler > (but remove the spaces)
Write your text and then end with
< / spoiler > (again you need to remove the spaces)
< spoiler > (but remove the spaces)
Write your text and then end with
< / spoiler > (again you need to remove the spaces)

Thanks soo much for that clarification Tea -- I will be sure to look into the team challenges later on then // sounds like a blast :)

For now nominations are closed. Be on a lookout near end of the month when nominations for January will be open. This is thread - BOM nominations - where they'll be. Also if you miss threads, there will be link/reminder to them in monthly newsletter.
As for being lost, there is a lot going on here, so feel free to ask. :)

Hi Nicole
Welcome!
You can find our Books of the Month here. We have 3 books every month and we are currently reading Six of Crows.
Our current team challenge is "Tower Teams IV" which started on Nov 7, but you can still sign up as a reserve to be placed on an existing team. You can read about it, and sign up, here

Sonia is our mod doing the team assignments and it is just past midnight where she is, but once she has determined the team to assign you to, she will send you a message. In the meantime, just make sure any books you started after Nov 7 are shelved to the special shelf you will create for the challenge, and make yourself familiar with the rules.

I understand ;)
Yes the monthly/seasonal challenges are designed for that month/season each year, but you can choose to do them whenever you like
Another place you may like to look is the Novel role playing game which is an ongoing individual "RPG" type challenge
