I'm brand new here and just want to say hi. Although I am an author and do have gay or lesbian characters in my books, I want to learn more about writing effectively by reading what others find to be great books than I want to promote. I feel I can learn a lot here and become a better writer.

I didn't set out to "always make sure there was a gay or lesbian in my books". It just happened. After completing the series, I wondered why and then realized that it just seemed natural, as I have always had gay and lesbian friends in my life. Don't all lives have both straight and gay/lesbain people in them? Of course, but too many times they don't know it because they are blind or close-minded. I hope to see the day where everyone is accepted for who they are, and perhaps in some small way my writing can help.

More important than my writing is that I love to read across many genres and hope to find some suggestions on fabulous books to read here.

I also hope to make friends. So here I am, hoping I will be welcome.

Thank you Nancy. I sure will! Right now I have gotten so many great historical fiction suggestions I'll be reading until doomsday! I am in the odd position of having written an HF series without really setting out to and I haven't read much of it. I am interested in branching out in my reading so asked for suggestions in a HF group, too. Between there and here I will find plenty to read when I'm not writing or painting.

Fabulous Alicja. I'll keep that in mind for when I take a breath from writing. Thanks for reaching out and being so friendly. THe HF group that seems to be the most active is Historical Fictionistas (I believe that is the full name, I am not on that page). I got some great recommendations from people there.

Thanks, Nathan I appreciate it! I clicked on your name and see that you have a book where one of the characters is an artist. That is going in my "to read" pils. I am also an artists besides a writer and I write about artists as often as possible. :)
