10 chapters in. wow, nothing as sobering as hanging around playing with your kids all day and juggling a book about childhood cancer...... it's a great book though. I really love Tess. I can't fault Kristina...

but her parents, (view spoiler)[ I want to shake them! there should be counseling and family togetherness. They should all be juggling helping Kristina, not just Tess :( (hide spoiler)] I know it's hard to fault anyone in this situation but I mean..really?! (view spoiler)[ to make Tess be the one to talk to her. TESS miss school BUT dad can't even come home on time?!?!? ugh!! (hide spoiler)]

Well I know that, THANK GOD, I am not in this situation - but this family strikes me as majorily dysfunctional so far. Esp the mom - wow. I don't want to judge, and I pray I never have to learn how i would deal with that situation but she's freaking me out!

I'm on chapter 3 and (view spoiler)[ can already tell this book is going to be a tough one for me. My husband and I found out about three weeks ago that his best friend, first cousin, and his best man in our wedding has cancer. He has also been one of my best friends since probably about first grade. So I've already been tearing up from reading this. He's been going through some very intense chemo treatments and has an extremely good expected outcome. However, this book is still getting to me. (hide spoiler)]

Brianna...I'm so sorry to hear about your friend. I hope all goes well with treatment. I can't imagine how tough that must be for you.

yes, this book is tough. and Tess is great. But take all the time you want. If it becomes too intense, you can always come back to it later. Don't push through if the topic becomes too much!!! I've definitely backed out of a buddy read because the book wasn't for me.

Oh Brianna, I'm svs to hear of this. totally understandable if you need to quit for a bit and come back to it later - best thing about books is that they're always there. Maybe you could appreciate the book better when you're out of this stage?

I had to quit reading some books when I was going through my divorce because they hit too close to home at that time!

Ok this line totally sums up their situation: "How do you spell dysfunctional? S-M-I-T-H. Youza! I hope their family ends up at least a bit closer though this terrible ordeal.

Ok, I finished this afternoon. I loved it, but I only gave it 4 stars because I was unimpressed with the ending. I felt like it left me and a lot of issues hanging unresolved. LOL!

Heavy book with lots of thinking and makes you thankful for what you have.
