for example, getting sent to the outer provinces or what not, that was like being sent away from the capitol and going to the far reaching districts (or district 13 if you will. also, i think that as you read the next 2 books in the matched trilogy, you'll see that there are definitely things that remind you of the other trilogy.


True, there is a lot of similarity ... but matched came first.

Me too! My cousin never read The Giver. When I tried to explain the premise, she said, "That sounds just like Matched."


That being said, there's a lot of dystopic books coming out these days. Like Jharice said, many YA authors will write about what's popular with teens at the moment. Love triangles, forbidden love, controlling government... many people trying to ride off of the success of The Hunger Games. :)
