The last two books I've loaded up to KDP have come back with a line around the base and RHS of the chapter illustrations. I can't tell you how many hours/days/weeks I've spent trying to fix them. Using KDP help and everything. I noticed I'm not the only author who has this trouble.

I've just solved it.

If you have a mainly black and white drawings or graphics to go in, use a gif file instead of a jpeg. It seems that the converter works too hard to try to smooth jpeg files to make them look nice. I don't know why it produces those lines bottom and side, but I substituted all mine with gif files and they now look perfect.

So Talent Seekers will go to be approved now, and I'll get to work on Lost City and Traveler afterwards. You may be able to reload your Travelers afterwards free of charge. Re-synch or something.

Only a semi-technical genius, you know. I need Princeling George's help :)

This is amazing. Thank you for sharing, I have been so annoyed by this! I couldn't figure out what the reason could possibly be or why my books looked fine in smashwords, but not KDP! I will have to fix mine now too.

I guessed I wasn't the only one infuriated by it. I also suspected I might find this place useful for the next book - when I forget how I fixed it last time... :)

Oh, and another thing I found. If you use MS Office Picture Manager to do simple crop and adjustment of your illustrations, and you have them all in jpeg, you can covert them all at once to gif. Select all the ones you want to convert (do it in the view with a main pic and thumbnails below, that works), click File-Export and use the Export dialogue. I save mine in a sub-folder, with the same names, to GIF, at document large size, which are the options you need to set at the side. It works for me, anyway.

Bobbi (bobbichukran) Hi Jemima, Hmmm, I didn't have the problem with my recent book I uploaded there. But maybe because I put a frame around all my illustrations. One thing I did learn is not to resize the pics in Word. I used Photoshop Elements, sized them, then placed them in the document. All of mine were jpgs. bc
