Theories on how Rithmatists came to exist? Do you think the book will share that information?

Jack (Reader Reborn) (readerreborn) To be honest, I have no idea what it is yet, but knowing Sanderson, I'm going to say that yes will find that out. It seems like it came into existence fairly recent, like life was normal without it and then suddenly some people were Rithmatists. I'm getting a sort of mutants from Marvel type of thing, except that it seems they are held in high regard. I'm starting to think that it had to do something with how the United States became the United Isles and the wild chalklings. Joel keeps thinking it's too late, eight years I think he says at one point.

Jack (Reader Reborn) (readerreborn) So 7 chapters in and the thing sticking out most in my mind is this whole Nebrask/Tower thing. From what I can tell, they have been fighting a never ending war there, and every single Rithmatist has to fight at one point? We see that Fitch goes but isn't very good. It reminds me of veterans.

Ok. Who is the Master? Is it like a person? Or a god-type figure? And why does the choosing happen at 8-years-old? Also, I think it's odd that Joel's dad died around the time when he could have been chosen as a Rithmatist. And it was apparently an "accident".

Jack (Reader Reborn) (readerreborn) So are we thinking that Joel is a Rithmatist and just doesn't know it? Maybe some kind of special Rithmatist that's more powerful than all the rest since he can draw so perfectly? What I would rather it be is that he has no power but all the skill and Melody has all the power and no skill, so together they somehow become a super awesome Rithmatist.

I think Joel was at least supposed to be a Rithmatist. But I don't really get how they could team up? I mean, Joel could teach her to care and draw better, but it still wouldn't make him a Rithmatist.

Jack (Reader Reborn) (readerreborn) They could hold hands? lol

Hahaha! That's impractical. But if we knew more about how people became Rithmatists, we could come up with a better theory.

Jack (Reader Reborn) (readerreborn) I get the feeling that tomorrow's reading will open our eyes a bit more. I also wondered about the Master. Now I keep waiting for one of the characters to laugh maniacally and say, "For I..." they pull off their false face, "am the MASTER!" Cut to credits. Woooeeeooooooooo Ooooouoooo

You're talking about Doctor Who, aren't you?

Jacob Rhyne 7 chapters in the child could be a prodigy or maybe a person who could end the war of the chalklings. If so this could possible dethrone The Master....

Fair point, but I don't think the Master is on a throne. He's not referred to as some royal figure but with a reverence not quite understood.

Jacob Rhyne I also think the principal could be an antagonist. He is one of the least likely characters so therefore the logical pick. He could have quite possibly killed the child's father or knew of a plot of death and his guilt weighs his conscience.

Not something that had crossed my mind. :-)
