Writers no one reads

some interesting things there, but I can't seem to put my hands on any of it

Thomas | 56 comments ive reviewed or read a few buried or thereabouts things and i made a shelf for them which is here https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...
some of these don't have threads because they're maybe too recent or are poetry or some other reasons.
here are some of the ones that i actually wrote real reviews for.
buried and good:
The Slipway
The Chambered Nautilus
Woman of the Aeroplanes
Symmes Hole
Anthem of the Decades: A Zulu Epic

buried or barely read and not so good, or maybe better suited to someone else's tastes:
Musica Ficta
The Shadow Of The Land
The Sofa
Onaevia

finally here's a recent book of experimental cyberpunk that might appeal to some here: Dreams of Amputation

Thanks for the reminder to check back in with my probably all-time-favorite blog! I see they've actually updated in the first time in a year, and with a new Gerard Reve translation no less. Yes!

Thomas | 56 comments It's an interesting one for sure, I can't think of another African novel that's quoted Kierkegaard at me..

Nate D (rockhyrax) | 354 comments Since last episode (unwilling to let this place languish too much)

Buried essentials (lots of BBC classics here of course):
Bilge Karasu's Night (and to a lesser but still notable extent A Long Day's Evening)
Michael Westlake's Imaginary Women (thanks Verbivoraceous!)
Nawal El-Saadawi's Searching
Mojmir Drvota's Solitaire
Ithell Colquhoun's finally-reissued The Living Stones: Cornwall
Raymond Federman's To Whom it May Concern andDouble or Nothing
Robert M Coates' The Eater of Darkness (less so The Hour After Westerly)

Other notables:
Gisele Prassino's The Traveler (only one review or rating...)
Pierre Reverdy's Haunted House
Eric Basso's The Golem Triptych
Christine Brooke-Rose's Stories, Theories and Things

Not quite buried but great (ie 30 to 100 ratings, or a little too new):
Old Rendering Plant
The Unmapped Country: Stories and Fragments (Ann Quin's long-lost unfinished novel in print at last)
Killing Auntie
The King in the Golden Mask and Other Stories (it seems astonishing that Schwobb could continue to be buried, yet he nearly is)
The Bottom of the Jar
Nevermore (somehow so few people make it as far as Marie Redonnet's best novel)
The Stupefaction: stories and a novella
98.6
The Cathedral of Mist (Wakefield continues its essential works)
Penthouse F (Green Integer)

Buried but irritating:
Signor Dido: Stories

Thomas | 56 comments Buried stuff:
Babel
https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

The Season, It Was Winter: Scenes from the Life of an American Jew
https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

The Talking Room
https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Bound to Violence(recommended highly to anyone interested in African literature)
https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

In Transit: An Heroi-Cyclic Novel
https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I don't think William Goyen's numbers are low enough to really qualify as buried but The House of Breath has really good high modernist prose in the vein of all your favourite writers https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I also have to recommend Fire in the Unnameable Country to anyone who likes big ambitious books with digressive storytelling even though it's a debut novel from 2014 https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Nate D (rockhyrax) | 354 comments In fact, Wendy is a contributor to this group. If she doesn't have her own author thread it's only because she's remains a current, active author.

Yes, I did see that, although she hasn't been active in Goodreads for quite some time it seems. I even sent her a message a while ago and never heard back too.

Maybe after I read her novel I'll email her or something in an attempt to interview her. That could be fun.

I'll be checking these out now. Thank you so much.

If anyone knows how I can get my hands on a copy of Big Bishop Roko and the Altar Gangsters, please let me know. It seems that the author self-published it and no copies are anywhere online as far as I can see.

message 123: by Thomas (new)

Thomas | 56 comments i got mine second hand from some site or other but you can order new copies from the african books collective here: http://www.africanbookscollective.com...
his first two novels are fairly easy to find. his third novel is out of print and only sells for extremely silly prices where it comes up at all.
