Ciprian Rusen (ciprianrusen) | 5 comments Hi,

I have an issue with this book: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17...

My name is Ciprian Adrian Rusen. However, on Goodreads i am mentioned as Ciprian Rusen.

You can verify that I am the real co-author, using this book's Amazon page: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/0857084569

I need someone to fix the metadata on Goodreads and list me as Ciprian Adrian Rusen. This way I can claim the book as my own and organize a giveaway, to celebrate its upcoming launch.

Appreciate the help.
Ciprian

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 6325 comments Uh oh ... Looks like this book is now missing all of its metadata (I just tried to see because I honestly didn't think that author name was a metadata field, that author name field was used on book data page and author profile page—I could be wrong, the metadata tab said the book had no metadata and once author or reviewer adds metadata back in author field may very well be there).

Vicky (librovert) | 2462 comments @Debbie - Author is not a [Goodreads]metadata field. Metadeta, in general, refers to data about data. It's likely Ciprian is referring to the data on the book edit page as being metadata (which, technically, it is) and not the metadata section of Goodreads.

Ciprian Rusen (ciprianrusen) | 5 comments I am not familiar with Goodreads specific terminology. I was thinking of Metadata as data describing the book. In my thinking, it includes the authors, its description, cover, etc.

Empress (the_empress) A lot of books don't have any metadata generated. I was wondering why is that. Does it get generated when the books becomes more popular or just needs some times after it's been added to GR?

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 6325 comments No, it never generates. Authors and readers have to put it in.

Not completely sure how it gets used except another thread said metadata info was part of how goodreads recommends books to members. Part of what goes into recommendation algorithm; I don't have more info than that or any idea how "important" or what "weight" the recommendation engine gives to the metadata (I suspect popularity among members and how they are shelving and rating a bigger factor).

(There is a "genre" field in metadata for recommendations; but, the "genre" that shows on book data page and when members explore genres comes from two or more goodreads members shelving in a genre-named shelf (or a shelf name that rolls into a genre, for example, childrens genre would includecshelf names like "kids" "children" "childrens" etc.). One of the two members needed to put book in a genre can be the author.)

I don't usually personally remember to add to the metadata info (for a long time I idid not know it was there, then I did not see anything in metadata of use for my own reading except maybe genre … not sure the statistics for other members using but there are a lot of books missing metadata info or that have just what the author put in).

Certainly doesn't hurt anything if an author wants to put the metadata on their book.

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 6325 comments There are some possibly upcoming additions to the metadata (a thread in this group asks for librarian help in a project to put chapter info in on a group of books I presume will be used to test some features tied to).

Ciprian Rusen (ciprianrusen) | 5 comments I am back with another request. :) I noticed other issues with a different book where I am a co-author.

It is this book: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/16...

Its name should be Microsoft Office Professional 2013 Step by Step, without the "®" characters in its title.

Second, JoAnn Paules was initially contracted to write a portion of this book but, for reasons unknown to me, she left the project. I was then contracted to write her chapters. Can you please replace her with me: Ciprian Adrian Rusen?

To confirm what I am saying you can use Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Offic...

or the official book page on the publisher's website: http://shop.oreilly.com/product/07901...
