Brenda | 3 comments I was reccomended this series by a friend and was wondering if anyone is reading, or even heard about it? They aren't new books, but they're new to me. I've been devouring these books quickly (a book a week) as they are action-packed with well-developed characters which makes the book so much more readable. There are three books in the series (Maze Runner, The Scorch Trials, The Death Cure) and if anyone would like to discuss, please do so!

johan (johonr) | 5 comments I liked the series. I thought the characters ware pretty well written (also Brenda). did you read 'the kill order' or are you reading? It answers some questions about origin of the flare.

David Estes (davidestesbooks) I thought the first book was ok, the second was pretty bad, and liked the third one ok. But there are many better dystopian series out there, in my opinion.

I heard that the Kill Order should be read last, though it's actually a prequel to the series. It's next on my list after I finish the third book.

I liked that there are always questions lingering in your mind. Nothing is set in stone as to who Thomas should trust or align with as well as discovering how involved he was with Wicked and what seems his drastic change in the opposite direction with what he originally perceived as being good in regard to Wicked. Books that get into a rut and never leave it are too predictable for me, which is why I guess I like this series.

Lisa Johnson | 9 comments I read the series awhile back but i do remember that i liked these books alot. Def give them a try, that way you'll know what you like & dislike in a dystopian.

I liked the series, although the romance was awful. But I'd suggest them to a friend - they were fairly well-written and had an interesting, unique plot line.

I agree the romance was pretty underwhelming for the series, but I kind of liked that in a way. There were less opportunities for the characters to make "reckless" decisions based on their feelings and instead with every turn and unexpected plot twist, the readers are more inclined to pay attention to how those details apply to the story. Throughout the series, there seems to be a notion of a "bigger plan" around the main character. So whenever something "romantic" happens, there's always a notion that there is a plot point this will refer back to, making the story more complex and more action-packed. There were some "broken-heart" moments throughout the book, but again, with the foreshadowing and weaving plot, not all is what it seems.

Overall the series was good. The Kill Order was a prequel that was released last in publication, but in my opinion, it could be read before the trilogy anyways and the series would still be awesome!

Happy reading!

Bethany I really like the first book. The second one was tougher to get into. I got really into it at about the halfway point. The third book was just okay. I didn't really think it was a very strong ending for the build up that a trilogy usually makes. Overall, I would say it was a 'good' series, not great.

message 10: by Jane (new) - rated it 3 stars

Jane (janeinri) | 129 comments We recently read this in the Dystopian Book Club, and I have to say I really didn't like the 1st book - I especially hated the made-up swear words - but it hooked me enough that I wanted to read more. Maybe just to figure out what the heck was going on! I liked each book in the series better. Glad I read them in the order I did - The Kill Order was the best and answered all lingering questions.
