#13 – Me, too!

#16 – Oh, I like the way you think. ☺

#18 – I think you’re right!

#19 – Now, see. I liked that little touch.

#20 – Lord, yes. The titles on them were appalling.

#27 – Aww…

#14 – Yes, it definitely explains why.

#16 – Yes, there is more and more of that, it seems. As if pregnancy is the only thing to worry about.

#17 – True, if you know (view spoiler) However, as Kari say, he is no longer in the Army now.

#19 – Me, too! ☺

#21 – I think, once someone if faced with a loss of losing someone, their feelings crystallizes, becoming clearer.

#24 – Yeah, he was hitting below the belt. But, I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt, since it was in the heat of the moment.

#25 – LOL! Yes, you’re right. I did gasp, and it ‘worked for me’ in the story. However, if Real Life I’d stay far away from someone like that.

#27 – ☺

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 21897 comments Lisa Kay’s Questions for Laura’s Big Break “Buddy Read”: Chapter 9 – Epilogue

28. Does everyone know who Lizzie Borden was? I just didn’t know if it got lost on those people in other countries. Considering that Laura just acted psycho is burning down Charlie’s tent, did his selection of tee-shirts make you laugh?

29. What did you think about Laura telling Charlie that he brought out the worst in her? Comments on his reply about wanting to see just how out of control he could make her go?

30. I don’t know about you, but I thought Charlie might pass out from having to do all that peddling on the tandem bike! Man-oh-man! What a work-out for him.

31. Then Laura makes the offer of sex. What? Do you understand Charlie’s hesitancy? Do you think it was due to more than just him wanting to be the one to initiate it?

32. So, their attraction to one another was finally consummated – again. Comments on that interaction and the things you liked and didn’t like.

33. Do you agree with Charlie theory that Laura should allow herself to lose control, just a little bit every now and then, instead of letting it build up?

34. What was your response to Claire’s demanding phone call, Laura’s interview with Charlie, and then her leaving right after?

35. Were you surprised Charlie took permanent work with his friend Mark Chambers, which lead to an assignment in Bolivia? Did you think Laura and Charlie needed a little time apart?

36. Did you have any doubts that Laura would not turn in the article?

37. So, Laura hopped on a plane to Bolivia after her conversations with Maddie and then her mother. Comments.

38. Did you laugh over the scene where Big Mike hung Laura on the fence? Did he – and Charlie – leave her there too long?

39. What about Charlie’s reaction to Laura declaring her love?

40. Did you like the proposal? Did you see why Charlie didn’t want to wait? How about the wedding ceremony? What about Laura’s ‘volcano mad’ blow to Charlie’s solar plexus afterwards?

41. Aww… I must admit I love a good epilogue. Did this one work for you?

42. What did you rate this book? Would you read any more by this author? Did joining in a “buddy read” enhance the experience for you?

Kari | 1791 comments Lisa Kay’s Questions for Laura’s Big Break “Buddy Read”: Chapter 9 – Epilogue

28. Does everyone know who Lizzie Borden was? I just didn’t know if it got lost on those people in other countries. Considering that Laura just acted psycho is burning down Charlie’s tent, did his selection of tee-shirts make you laugh? I had no idea who she was; I had to look it up. The t-shirt fit her perfectly, lol!

29. What did you think about Laura telling Charlie that he brought out the worst in her? Comments on his reply about wanting to see just how out of control he could make her go? I don’t agree he brought out the worst. I think he brought out who she really was deep down, which is good.

30. I don’t know about you, but I thought Charlie might pass out from having to do all that peddling on the tandem bike! Man-oh-man! What a work-out for him. The tandem was a great idea. I would love to try that, lucky Laura!

31. Then Laura makes the offer of sex. What? Do you understand Charlie’s hesitancy? Do you think it was due to more than just him wanting to be the one to initiate it? I think he hesitates because he’s surprised.

32. So, their attraction to one another was finally consummated – again. Comments on that interaction and the things you liked and didn’t like. I wish we’d gotten more details about how they felt before and after, besides the general obvious feelings.

33. Do you agree with Charlie theory that Laura should allow herself to lose control, just a little bit every now and then, instead of letting it build up? Most of Laura’s scenes show her losing control; I don’t know if I want to see her lose more control, what else can she burn down, lol!

34. What was your response to Claire’s demanding phone call, Laura’s interview with Charlie, and then her leaving right after? It made sense. She had something important to take care of and it was the right time to do it.

35. Were you surprised Charlie took permanent work with his friend Mark Chambers, which lead to an assignment in Bolivia? Did you think Laura and Charlie needed a little time apart? They definitely needed time apart. I wasn’t surprised he left to Bolivia since he’d mentioned at some point that he would like to work abroad.

36. Did you have any doubts that Laura would not turn in the article? No, I was confident she would do the right thing!

37. So, Laura hopped on a plane to Bolivia after her conversations with Maddie and then her mother. Comments. Woohoo, Laura! It’s like she opened her eyes. After quitting her job, it was the next step for her. Her mother is amazingly awful, btw.

38. Did you laugh over the scene where Big Mike hung Laura on the fence? Did he – and Charlie – leave her there too long? It was funny, but I would’ve also gotten really pissed if they’d left me there so long.

39. What about Charlie’s reaction to Laura declaring her love? Loved his reaction, shows a weakness and his nervousness. Made him more real.

40. Did you like the proposal? Did you see why Charlie didn’t want to wait? How about the wedding ceremony? What about Laura’s ‘volcano mad’ blow to Charlie’s solar plexus afterwards? I loved the proposal, he says very sweet things to her. I figured he didn’t want to wait so she wouldn’t go into “excessive thinking” mode. I would’ve been volcano mad too, but of course the proposal saves the day!

41. Aww… I must admit I love a good epilogue. Did this one work for you? It worked great. I can picture them both working and living together in the jungle.

42. What did you rate this book? Would you read any more by this author? Did joining in a “buddy read” enhance the experience for you? I give it 4stars. I would read this author again because she makes me laugh. It was a light and entertaining story. The buddy read is awesome, definitely enhances the experience.

Thanks guys for a great buddy read, thanks Lisa K. for posting the questions, comments and gorgeous pics!!

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14528 comments 28. Yeah, I've heard of Lizzie. So Charlie does have a sense of humor. ☺

29. I think they both bring out the worst in each other.

30. Nah, I knew Charlie could handle the bike.

31. Yes, I get that Charlie would want to be the one to initiate things for once.

32. I think it was time and it worked.

33. Personally, I didn't find Laura to be all that controlling. But maybe I didn't see something I should have. **shruggs**

34. That would have been the time I told Claire where to shove it.

35. Yes, I was surprised. I thought he would get something local. Or maybe I hoped he would.

36. No doubts!

37. Well, she had to do it. It was obvious that Charlie wasn't going to get back to her. For some time, at least.

38. Yes that was funny but I did think they went overboard.

39. Sweet!

40. Haha! Yes loved the proposal! I think I'd demand another ceremony when I returned home though.

41. Yeah, it worked.

42. A four star for me. and yes, I'd read more. The buddy read was fun. Great to get other people's opinions on it.

ShoSho (shoshost) | 1110 comments Lisa Kay’s Questions for Laura’s Big Break “Buddy Read”: Chapter 9 – Epilogue

28. Does everyone know who Lizzie Borden was? I just didn’t know if it got lost on those people in other countries. Considering that Laura just acted psycho is burning down Charlie’s tent, did his selection of tee-shirts make you laugh?
I spend half an hour reading about Lizzie borden and some other murderers after seeing that name in the book !very enlightening reads! I didn't understand at first but after reading about her I thought it was funny

29. What did you think about Laura telling Charlie that he brought out the worst in her? Comments on his reply about wanting to see just how out of control he could make her go?
I didn't it was worst of her , it was just who she was deep down!

31. Then Laura makes the offer of sex. What? Do you understand Charlie’s hesitancy? Do you think it was due to more than just him wanting to be the one to initiate it?
No I didn't think he hesitated , just that he wanted it more his way or a romantic way

32. So, their attraction to one another was finally consummated – again. Comments on that interaction and the things you liked and didn’t like.
I don't like "fading" scenes!!!! and didn't like that they fell on the pillow !

33. Do you agree with Charlie theory that Laura should allow herself to lose control, just a little bit every now and then, instead of letting it build up?
I didn't see her like that at all ! she wasn't boring or sensible or controlling . this was my problem with the book

I was really surprised . I didn't how thet are going to work that out with him being so far away

36. Did you have any doubts that Laura would not turn in the article?
No I was sure she wouldn't

37. So, Laura hopped on a plane to Bolivia after her conversations with Maddie and then her mother. Comments.
It just went very well with what we had scene from her throughout the book

38. Did you laugh over the scene where Big Mike hung Laura on the fence? Did he – and Charlie – leave her there too long?
it was funny , but they left her there too long . I was wondering if they had to do the wedding officially or was that wedding acceptable !

39. What about Charlie’s reaction to Laura declaring her love?
wierd

40. Did you like the proposal? Did you see why Charlie didn’t want to wait? How about the wedding ceremony? What about Laura’s ‘volcano mad’ blow to Charlie’s solar plexus afterwards?
No if I was Laura I would have hated that ceremony but it went well with the rest of the book

41. Aww… I must admit I love a good epilogue. Did this one work for you?
I liked it

42. What did you rate this book? Would you read any more by this author? Did joining in a “buddy read” enhance the experience for you?

3.5 stars but I'll round it up because of the good laughs!!! I want to read the lingerie wars and maybe Maddie's book!
you know I love a good buddy read ;)

Chris (cdavies1951) | 266 comments Lisa Kay’s Questions for Laura’s Big Break “Buddy Read”: Chapter 9 – Epilogue

28. Does everyone know who Lizzie Borden was? I just didn’t know if it got lost on those people in other countries. Considering that Laura just acted psycho is burning down Charlie’s tent, did his selection of tee-shirts make you laugh? Miss 40 whacks - haven't heard her poem for a long time.

Do you think it was due to more than just him wanting to be the one to initiate it? sort of prefer the alpha-male - I tired of her making the decisions

Laurs should have told her to take a hike - it was uncomfortable - I wanted Laura to stand up to her.

35. Were you surprised Charlie took permanent work with his friend Mark Chambers, which lead to an assignment in Bolivia? Did you think Laura and Charlie needed a little time apart? Neither

36. Did you have any doubts that Laura would not turn in the article? No. It was so offensive. She would have had to be in her left mind.

37. So, Laura hopped on a plane to Bolivia after her conversations with Maddie and then her mother. Comments. I would have rather seen Charlie hop the plane.

38. Did you laugh over the scene where Big Mike hung Laura on the fence? Did he – and Charlie – leave her there too long? Not a realistic scene, to me

39. What about Charlie’s reaction to Laura declaring her love?I am having serious doubts about Charlie at this point. I suppose we could chalk it up to lack of sleep.

I thought it might end with Charlie knitting booties - the poor guy is totally emasculated at this point.

42. What did you rate this book? Would you read any more by this author? Did joining in a “buddy read” enhance the experience for you? I only rated it a 3. I thought Charlie was a total wimp at the end. I really wanted him to make some of the choices/advances.

I loved the buddy read - it's fun to see the different reactions.

#28 – I actually looked for the tee shirt to post it here. I didn’t find it, but I found a rock group going by that name. I did find this:

#30 – Yes, I’ve ridden a tandem bike with my husband and all he did was complain that I wasn’t pedaling right.

#31 – I can see that as a reason.

#32 – Me, too.

#35 – I agree completely.

#38 – Maybe renegades and exiles in far-off countries?

#40 – Considering I don’t even like the tradition of shoving wedding cake in your spouse’s face, no, I didn’t like it much either. Maybe my rose-tinted glasses are too thick.

#42 – Yes, I love to read the different reactions of my co-“buddy readers.”

#29 – Ah! Very interesting. I’m going to side with you on this one. ☺

#33 – LMBO! Really.

#37 – Yes, totally agree with you about her mother.

#38 – I agree again. I thought it was funny, but I would have been pissed if I were in her shoes for that length of time.

#40 – Yes, loved his proposal and agree with you about Laura’s “excessive thinking.” She would of done something.

#41 – Me, too! Loved the role reversal, too. **hee hee**

You’re welcome, Kari! I had fun looking for the pics, especially knowing you all would appreciate them, too. ☺

#28 – Yes, I liked his sense of humor. Though I would have balked at seeing that tee-shirt worn by someone, I thought that was a nice touch after the tent burning scene.

#30 – Okay, now I’m picturing Charlie’s thigh muscles.

#33 – I do think that Charlie could have recalled a few more things about Laura that proved her “control issues.” Maybe he could have brought them up in an earlier conversation.

#34 – Yes! Me, too! Especially in the aftermath of a hormonal daze. Plus, Claire was such a b!tch. Still, I guess there needed to be a face-to-face confrontation.

#40 – Yes, I would have insisted on that, too. Of course, then Laura’s family might have shown up! Eep!

#28 – It sure fit the aftermath context of the tent burning.

#31 – Yes, loved that he was more romantic than her.

#32 – I didn’t think you would, ShoSho. ☺ **hee hee**

#35 – Neat that you were surprised!

#38 – Yes, just a tad too long.

#42 – I laughed, too. Good book. Great people with whom to read it.

#28 – Yes, I recalled that childhood poem, too.

#34 – Yes, that was the time and place.

#36 – Left mind? Huh?

#37 – Aww. Well, rest assured, he was going to.

#39 – LOL! Yes, he had a serious case of sleep deprivation.

#41 – Oh! You are B.A.D.

It is fun to see other people’s POVs.

Melissa catching up....

Lisa Kay’s Questions for Laura’s Big Break “Buddy Read”: Prologue – Chapter 4

1. I liked the prologue, Laura is feisty and I thought it was funny that she had no problem expressing how mad she was he just ran away and didn't even thank her!

2. I could not be a journalist, it seems like they do have to disregard some of the pain and emotions that people are going through to get the true unbiased story and I don't think I could do that. I think Laura will get the interview but whether it gets published or not is another thing.

3. I wasn't surprised that he was a Dr, the only prior information we had about him before finding out he was a DR was that he behaved badly after sex so there wasn't anything to base what he would be on it. I thought the reaction of the nurses in his hospital was priceless! Had me snorting with glee!

4. I love the nicknames they have for each other especially since they have no qualms about addressing them with them.

5. The first night when Charlie came back to camp to the disaster was funny! I was a little suprised that he left her the 1st day since he blackmailed her into coming. The two young guys telling him what happened were great and I hope they stick around in the book!

6. Sabotaging his bike was a stroke of genius. She made sure it gave her a day without totally ruining it. Didn't she send the pictures before she went in the canal?

7. I think Charlie's reason for taking off after there first encounter was a reasonable explanation.

8. I like there dialog more than when she writes about there internal struggles.

10. I would say her underwear and clothes were worth the answers she got.

11. Uh oh! They are sharing a tent. Considering what happened after their close proximity on the bike… is this a good idea? The sparks are going to fly!

12. I think they will both be acting outside there norm before the end of the book.

Melissa Lisa Kay’s Questions for Laura’s Big Break “Buddy Read”: Chapter 5 – Chapter 8

13. I like that Laura is so direct even when it may be about something that doesn't show her in the best light. The awaking he libido explanation was definitely one of them.

15. I thought it was sweet that Charlie took her to a cooking class. The sexy sexy kiss during it I found a bit jarring as it didn't seem the place someone would do that, she even mentioned neck kisses to didn't she? That seemed a bit far in a cooking class.

17. I think Charlie's comments about marriage sound like stuff younger people would say, he comes off as rather immature with a lot he says and does. But maybe they are younger than I picture them.

18. Charlie is not a coward, although he may feel like he is because he didn't stay in the army.

19. I never figured out why the comment she made to him made him decide to be a doctor specifically, it seemed like it was a pretty open statement where anything grownup would have done.

20. I think Charlie was justified in being angry about the pictures. I wouldn't want what I thought to be a real moment actually to be a set up and then me splashed over the web without permission.

24. Charlie lets his temper rule his mouth and to often says hateful things he doesn't mean.

25. I was rooting for the tent bonfire !

26. I really like the scenes the English teenagers are in, they are great characters.

I hope your mother is alright.

#1 – Yes, I still laugh when recalling that scene. Especially that she at least wanted a “thank you.” LOL!

#6 – Looks like she did.

#8 – Yes, love the dialogue.

#13 – Yes, I liked that about Laura, too.

#20 – Good way to put it.

#24 – True. Most people have been guilty of that once or twice in their life; only to regret it later.

#26 – Yes, love the teenagers. So many authors can’t write them, but JEH does a great job here.

Melissa Mom is still in ICU but shows improvement every day. She is alert and wants to come home. She will probably have to go to a rehab facility before she can go home though.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 1922 comments Lisa Kay’s Questions for Laura’s Big Break “Buddy Read”: Prologue – Chapter 4

1. I did laugh, and I loved that she didn't just call him on it, she soaked him on it!

2. I've actually heard authors, who were or are journalists, talk about their editor boss who was exactly like that. I'm too soft, I couldn't handle being treated that way. And, morally, I wouldn't have it in me to use and mislead the people I would be interviewing.

3. Charlie doesn't seem the doctor type to me, but as the story progressed, I could see why that line of work is perfect for him.

4. I love their nick names! Not sure I bought the blackmail, though, given how much animosity there was between them.

5. Yeah, it bothered be when he left her. But the thing is, she wasn't jealous because at that point, she didn't have feelings for him.

6. I think this became a war of sorts, and the sabotaging of the bike was just a small battle. I was pretty sure Laura would have another battle, a battle of conscience. And she did.

7. I thought that scene was sweet. I always laughed when Charlie would panic and stick his foot in his mouth.

8. Well, given I've not read any of those authors, I can't speak to her comparisons or influences. I have to say, though, as much as I enjoyed the story, in my opinion, the dialogs felt forced. Manipulated.

9. Oh, she was definitely playing with fire! Lusty wench!

10. I think that, overall, the interview was very poignant. I think you're asking about only the questions up to this point, but I can't separate them, having read the whole story already. Cute bargain, though!

11. Depends on who you ask!

12. Yes, I always thought she would. And it turned out she did.

Lisa Kay’s Questions for Laura’s Big Break “Buddy Read”: Chapter 5 – Chapter 8

13. I thought this was super cute, and very funny. AND HOT! Loved the way Laura blamed Charlie for what was happening!

14. I have a lot of experience with trying to please my parents, and so for me, that was a very sad scene. I hated that she caved so easily to their demands and whims.

15. I thought arranging the cooking class was super sweet of him, and turned out to be a turning point in their relationship!

16. I thought that scene ended a bit abruptly. For as hot and heavy as they were going at it, they could have ‘ended’ things to both their satisfaction, in other ways.

17. Wll, I go into all stories expecting a solid HEA, so that’s what I anticipated for Charlie and Laura, and that’s what we got.

18. I dn’t see Charlie as a coward at all. I see him as someone who got more than he bargained for, but when the chips were down, he came through. It’s refreshing to see a hero who’s able to say, “this isn’t for me” and still make something meaningful of his life.

19. I thought it was sweet, but becoming a doctor is so much work, that I didn’t buy that she had that much influence on his decision.

20. I don’t blame Charlie for being mad, and his reasoning things out later proved my point. And I still can’t blame him for feeling angry though.

21. This was a shorter story, so realistic often takes a back seat in cases like this. I did think it was cute, though.

22. I’m not remembering this specifically.

23. Again, not sure what this is referring to.

24. I do remember this, and I thought, for his part, it was a defense mechanism. Attack to protect yourself.

25. I thought that was a bit extreme, but very funny. If it were a real life thing, I’d think Laura was horribly immature.

26. The English teens are a hoot!

27. I thought this was a very poignant scene. His concern that he’d gone too far, that he’d broken her… I was glad to see he could have that depth of compassion and concern for her. Up to that point, I wasn’t really sure he’d be able to be the kind of hero I’d want for ANY heroine.

Lisa Kay’s Questions for Laura’s Big Break “Buddy Read”: Chapter 9 – Epilogue

28. Lizzie Borden took an axe, gave her mother 40 whacks. When she saw what she had done, she gave her father 41. ;)

29. Laura and Charlie didn’t communicate well, and this was frustrating to me. Ultimately, I loved that he took her need to be in control as a challenge to see how far he could push her.

30. Yeah, I couldn’t help but fantasize about his thigh muscles. Biking for one is hard enough, but two? Holy hell!

31. Sadly, for me this goes back to the length of the book and the need to get to the juicy stuff. It felt rushed and like the author needed a way to get to the good stuff.

32. Well, it was bound to happen at some point in the book, right? LOL! But it kind of bothered me how uneventful their goodbye was, when Laura left to return home.

33. Yes, everyone should let go and lose control once in awhile.

34. Hated it. It made me question if there were true feelings between them.

35. Not surprised that Charlie went to Bolivia. I had the feeling that he’d want to do more with his life than just butterfly here and there.

36. I never, not for a minute, thought she’d turn in the article.

37. Loved this! Laura was learning to live for herself, not for everyone else’s needs.

38. I loved the scene with Laura hanging on the fence. Realistically, yeah, she was hanging there too long, but for the story, I thought it was funny. Loved that she kicked Big Mike.

39. I thought that was kind of funny, kind of sweet. I felt like Charlie’s realization that he loved her too was too quickly. Again, a casualty of shorter stories.

40. I loved the proposal! Left her hanging there til she agreed? Hell yeah!

41. Yes, I enjoyed the epilogue!

42. I’m giving this a 3.5 star rating. Had this been full length novel I think it would have worked well, but the relationship was just too rushed for my taste. There was so much for them to work through, individually and as a couple, and there just wasn’t enough time to do it all and make it work. For me.
