Aly Closser The Hunger Games the movie was horrible if you ask me. I only saw the first half but i didn't wanna see anymore of it.

Sherrie I don't think you can judge a movie that you didn't watch entirely.

Amirah I. If you are comparing the movie to the book, of course the movie never stand a chance. but I think the thg movie was way better rather than most of other novel adaptations.

em (lattereads) I also hated the movie. This is not because I loved the book and the movie didn't live up to my expectations, though. Even if I hadn't read the book I would've hated the movie. The beginning was a bit too long for my taste, and then the end was just rushed through in like three minutes. They could've cut many parts out and made the end longer, and maybe I would have liked it, but it was far too rushed.

Feliks Well, I hate everything in any way associated with 'Hunger Games' (including books, movies, posters, games, t-shirts, decks of playing cards, special edition sunglasses, mugs, pens, lighters, slankets, beach towels, throw rugs, hats, windshield visors)...so don't feel isolated. You're not alone!

well.. this is funny hahaha! XD

The movie wasn't that good

Katie Monahan Alysha wrote: "The Hunger Games the movie was horrible if you ask me. I only saw the first half but i didn't wanna see anymore of it."

i think you would need to watch the whole movie to judge it!!

Jeni I thought it was another story that benefited from the third person perspective. I thought it was easier to watch Hunger Games than read the book.

Twilight is the other set of books that translated better to screen. I say this only because I don't want to be in the mind of angst-riddled teenage minds, but I'm not adverse to seeing their stories.

message 10: by Jeni (new) - rated it 3 stars

Jeni Not much triangle in the movie, to be honest.

Nikki I think the actors and the setting and all those things were fine, but it was the way the story was carried out that irked me. The first time I saw it, I LOVED it, but then i saw it again at home once and I almost threw up from ALL THAT SHAKY CAMERA. Am I the only one who couldn't stand it? I know that it's supposed to add to suspense but you shouldn't use it for the ENTIRE MOVIE. Those few seconds where the camera was stable were HEAVEN and then they went back to shaky camera AGAIN. Also, I think the flashback scene from Katniss' father dying was way too quick and if you hadn't read the books, you'd have no idea what was going on.
Still, excited to see Catching Fire :) (and to see if they've bought a tripod for it)

OH MY GOD DONT EVEN GET ME STARTED ON THE MOVIE IT WAS TERRIBLE.... everything was different. the mutts- looked like a pig that was dropped on its face covered in mudd and ran over my a mac truck.. the cornicopia - WTF is tht huge black thing what the hell. AND OMG wtf with Rue's death it was correct just BACKWARDS. the graphic and the camera sucked. I think they chose charaters good except for Clove i pictured her big a mascline. But come on even with the being it was wrong Prim really was baling and stuff she left katniss a peice of cheese on the table. im glad they got the calling of names right but even with katnis meeting Gale in the woods was WRONG everthing was terrible. Catching Fire had better be good or im going to pissed the hell off cuz Catching Fire was my least favorite book out of them all..... And is just me or who wanted Finnick to be played by as Taylor Launter?? I think id like tht. lol but really The Hunger Games movie was terrible i cant believe half my friends accutally like it oh and i forgot EVEN THE CHARIOT RIDE WAS TOTALLY WRONG!!! GRRR

OH AND THE ENDING DIDNT END RITE I STILL DONT UNDERSTAND HOW THERE GOING TO GET CATCHING FIRE RITE CUZ OF THE ENDING IN THT MOVIE

Sharon Toler Very few movies live up to the book, and the movie Hunger Games didn't live up to the book. I didn't think the movie was terrible, but I didn't think it was as good as it could have been. The movie didn't develop the characters enough. I felt as if I knew the characters in the book and cared about what happened to them. When Rue died in the book, I cried, but in the movie I didn't shed a tear.

me too i didnt cry in the movie either but i did in the book

message 16: by Aly (new) - rated it 5 stars

Aly Closser the thing is even if i didn't watch the whole thing doesn't mean it is going to get better. The movie was so off from the book. One Prim gave her the mokingjay pin not the old lady. Second they didn't even show when Gale came in to sya goodbye to her and when he was trying to tell her he loves her and the gaurds took him out of the room!!!! please understand me when i say i didn't like the Hunger Games movie!!!

Sindy I was just disappointed they didnt do the whole pretend to be inlove thing right. The first book was all about that, its like baking an apple pie without useing apples.

and poeple said it was better than Twilight...pshsh please!...

hopefully Catching fire will be better...

This is how I felt about the difference between the book and the movie.

I also felt they totally screwed up with coloration, size, etc. on the characters if they wanted people who had read the book to identify with the characters.

However, on reflection, I could separate the book from the movie and enjoy the movie as a separate entity and then it was a pretty good movie. Not great but pretty good. I tried to think of it as a different story entirely which in many ways it was.

Originally Pristine Fran wrote: "Kendra wrote: "Sharon wrote: "Very few movies live up to the book, and the movie Hunger Games didn't live up to the book. I didn't think the movie was terrible, but I didn't think it was as good as..."

I'd say so as well. If you don't compare the movie to the book, it is pretty good. But there were some things that bothered me. Like the fact that the legendary pin that was given to Katniss by her friend turns out to be a commonly sold item in the movie. If the mockingjay pin was not one of a kind, ANYBODY can get it. Then there's the shakiness of the camera that was meant to make the movie seem more real only made me dizzy. But I suppose the movie was okay. There could've been worse versions.

message 20: by Luz (new) - rated it 4 stars

Luz I HATED THE MOVIE!!! I think it was poorly plotted out. They never got the point across of how they were supposed to be madly in love. My husband didn't read the books and asked me so many questions to things he would of understood if he had read the book. The movie was terribly dull and seemed like something I would of done with my camera in my back yard. Yes I get movies can't take everything from a book into consideration, therefore they should stop jacking with good things if they're not even going to bother to stick to the plot of the book. I would not mind sitting there for 3 hours for a good movie. Instead of a half assed movie that wasn't worth watching. Anyone who read the book and loved the movie I really don't understand how that is possible.

message 21: by Aly (new) - rated it 5 stars

Aly Closser FINALLY!!!! Some one who sees what i see! The Movie was horrible....

Tuesdi-jo I always say, Never judge a book by its movie, and this is no exception. the move was just not good. The book was wonderful, though.

message 23: by sim (last edited May 31, 2013 07:56AM) (new) - rated it 4 stars

sim I hated the movie. The biggest problem: the cast was all wrong. 2nd biggest problem: the storyline had been changed a bit. 3rd: In the end, it doesn't even hint that something's wrong in peeta and katniss' relationship. 4th: I really, really don't like Josh Hutcherson as Peeta! I mean he's a great actor but he's just not PEETA!!

Rachael Key I hated the movie, The issue I have is leaving out important pieces from the book, I understand the time limits and everything of course, But Why, why make the movie if you're going to leave out seriously important parts... I have yet to find a book turned movie that I can actually enjoy....

message 30: by [deleted user] (new)

I hates the movie and the books because there was too much romance and I thought that it was like another twilight in the making.

Marie Antoine honestly it was just plain boring I read the book but even if you didnt you would of still heard of the vilonce in it but you barely saw any in the movieand I felt it took too long to get to the actual Hunger Games

Laurel I personally thought that the movie was BETTER than the book - and I don't often say that about adaptations. The only thing I didn't like about the movie was how fake the fire looked on Peeta and Katniss's costumes. Other than that, I really like how the movie takes us out of Katniss's head and lets us see what's going on back at Distric 12, with Seneca Crane and President Snow, and Haymitch. I loved the first book, but the movie was REALLY good.

message 33: by [deleted user] (new)

No I think it was bad too. Not armature B movie bad, just a lot of things missing. Add the narration from Katniss, so we know what she's thinking and it would have been better. The Hunger Games itself was almost TV version censored in a way, we didn't get the gruesome deaths as mentioned in the book. Still I look forward to the next one.

message 34: by A (new) - rated it 2 stars

A The movie was bland and overrated.

Linda LaRoque I loved the books and the movie. Yes, I admit I'm one of those people who don't always analyze scenes, plot, etc., I just watch for enjoyment, characterization and setting.

message 36: by Yari (last edited Sep 01, 2013 11:02AM) (new) - rated it 4 stars

Yari Sanchez Ramos The movie was good, but of course, films are never close to the details in the storyline the book provides. What I found interesting in the movie was being able to view from the perspective of the Capitol, what was going on "behind the scenes" during the game and President Snow's point of view as well.

Linda LaRoque Interesting point, Yari. You are correct. Their pov was hard to understand/see in the book.

Prim did not give Katniss the mocking jay pin Madge did....

Fabitha I actually liked it. (and I suggest anyone to get a copy of the soundtrack 'cause it's pretty good) I mean, it wasn't perfect: I didn't like Josh Hutcherson as Peeta too: jeez, was it so hard to give him at least a pair of blue lens? Did they end the money or what? There wasn't enough violence at all, I'm scared as hell about what they'll do of it in Catching Fire, and I was very disapponted that they didn't put the Tributes look in the mutts. I say that just because I REALLY love the books. But we can't expect the movie report all of the book, or we'll have like what, at least 4 hours each movie? A book is too detailed. I agree they could have done better, but I think Katniss was stunning, Haymitch and Cinna were perfect, and I liked the off-scene parts, like the one in District 11. Photography and sound were good too. It wasn't an Oscar movie, right, but it had its points. They lowered the target for teenage audience, but who knows? Maybe some of them didn't read the books and were inspired to do it.

SpookySoto I saw the movie first, and I did not like it at all, I found it boring. Then, recently I read the book, and it's really good (the first one). I didn't like the other two books, the second one was more of the same for me and the last one was a huge disappointment, I guess I like happy endings and this series felt like a big waste of time, at least for me. Regardless, I'm waiting for the next movie.

message 43: by Rae (new) - rated it 4 stars

Rae In all honesty, the movie could have been better to say the least.

Oliver Eh I'm iffy on this one the movie I thought was fantastic because I watched it before I read the book and I was amazed at how much they were alike and how much they were not but honestly I like the book better
movie: 3/5 book: 5/5

Tracie The movie was pretty good to me. It's not like the best movie I've ever seen but it was good. I read the book after I watched the movie and my opinion hasn't changed. I enjoyed the book more but the movie was still good. It's also a movie that I think is more enjoyable at the movie theater. Watching at home just didn't do the movie justice. Something about the big screen in a dark theater. idk

Book Dragon i saw the movie first it was meh, then i read the book it got like a smidge better, but not one of my fave movies

Paula As a rule, books are better than the movie- EXCEPT the Hunger games. I thought both movies was WAY better than the books.

Its probably an age thing. I'm almost 40 and I loved the very original idea of the book, but the execution was clearly aimed at a different audience, specifically teenagers- so I didn't care for all the extraneous detail in the book that was left out for the movie, like fashion and grooming and every interaction that seems very important in young love. For me, the movie(s) were better.

message 48: by [deleted user] (new)

can i just say THANK YOU FOR FINALLY BRINGING THIS UP!!! I know probably nobody will read this, but thats ok cuz i just rly need 2 get my anger out about this series.
first of all, if you're a huge fan, stop reading this. you'll get mad.
second, some of this is personal, so i dont expect everyone to understand.
third, please don't start yelling at me if you're a fan and you're actually reading this.

so it started when i read the first book, the hunger games.
it was ok, because i read it just before it was super popular. but then it got REALLY popular, which started to annoy me. part of it was that i've been doing archery for a long time, and my range is now full of katniss everdeen obsessed fans who think it's the easiest thing ever until they pick up a bow, quiver, arm and finger guard and miss the target completely. the other part was that when i find something that i actually like, it starts to become popular then i hate it. sorry, but that's kinda how i am. of course, then i started to read the second book. it was worse, but still not 100% horrible (an 85%). Of course, then i decided to ruin the series (i just had to finish it) by reading the last book, mocking jay. it was slow, boring, and a difficult read. if i dont like a book, it takes me FOREVER to read, so that book actually took me 5 days, while the other 2 just took a day (keep in mind i was around 10, so i wasn't a super advanced reader). Of course, it was a HUGE hit and everything, even though everyone's favorite was still the first book, the hunger games. then the hunger games movie came out. i saw the first one (courtesy of netflix), and it actually wasn't completely awful, but the thing that stung was again, the archery. (i'm one of those people who is only good at a couple things and archery is one of them). i told my friends i hated them, and of course had a huge argument that left me with only 3 friends. this series has taken some of my only enjoyable parts of my life, like archery and my friends. Not to mention now i'm known as katniss at my school, 1 cuz im good at archery 2 cuz everyone knows i hate her and they try to annoy me. whenever someone wants to annoy me, they know exactly how. i try to act cool and everything, but one of my only friends moved away, and i'm pretty much that one girl everyone avoids now. i really dont wanna hide my personlity and feelings, but they're nobody to understand me because they all think the books are genuis. oh, and the movies? when catching fire came out i was once again teased, because apparently i look like one of those old people katniss wants on her team, the lady who goes tick tock (i read catching fire two years ago, give me a break) this book/movie series has taken some of my freedom and personal enjoyment away from me.

i'm sorry for rambling, if you actually read this far, congratulations, you would make an amazing friend for a shy girl who hates the hunger games, does archery, and just tries to live with everything around her including a book/movie series that she hates (have i mentioned it at all?) oh, and did i mention a strange sense of humor?

thank you for reading my frustration and personal life, i'm sorry i got kinda side tracked

message 49: by Emma (new) - rated it 5 stars

Emma I didn't hate this movie, because I love the cast and characters, and I loooove the book, but I was disappointed with the movie. I understand you have to, but I think too many things were changed. I think they could have done a way better job, but Catching Fire on the other hand, was amazing :D

Kelly Brigid ♡ Honestly, I think people judge the movie too harshly. It's cause your comparing the movie to the book. Whenever you judge something that way, you'll ALWAYS be disappointed. I personally thought the movie was okay compared to the books. I liked the Catching Fire movie more though.

Hunger Games book: 5/5
Hunger Games movie: 4/5
