Anima Miejska | 1698 comments Susan, your list is really interesting, as there are many books I've not come across so far. Happy reading, and I may look at your list for some more inspiration for my already long TBR list :)

message 3: by Susan (new)

Susan Elizabeth (susan_e_lizabeth) Hi Anima - I'll let you know which ones really make an impression! What genre(s) do you prefer?

I wish I could name one source for building up this list, but it's really been a little bit of here and there (best-sellers lists, Twitters recs, self-published authors, books-to-film). I'm kind of addicted to adding books to my TBR list!

message 4: by Anima (new)

Anima Miejska | 1698 comments Honestly, it is a difficult question, as I've recently changed my preference due to our group. LOL. Just let me know which books do you find interesting, and I will check whether they suit me :)

I've got the same problem with my TBR list, there are more than 100 books already, and the new ones are still coming almost every day :)

Susan - I had difficulty with J and K also! I wasn't expecting to. If you're interested, one of our BOTMs for June is Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking. It would fit in your Q space and it qualifies for the Goodreads Choice Awards challenge. Also, if you look at listopia you can find lists for books that begin with certain letters.

message 6: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 1467 comments For Z I have The Zoo Keepers Wife. Also in another group for X you could just have it in the title it was so difficult. I was thinking about the biography of Malcolm X. I had difficulty with J too and ended up using author for that one instead of title. The Knife of Never Letting Go or The Kite Runner are good for K. For my next challenge I want to use A Visit From the Goon Squad

For my next challenge I want to read x0, y1, and z2 in order. :) This time I'm reading Year Zero, which also qualifies for the Goodreads Choice Awards challenge. I've seen You Slay Me on another list and it might be funny.

Another trick is to type a word that starts with the letter you want in the search and see if something pops up. For example, "year" for Y or "zero" for Z. It takes a bit longer, but I've found books that way as well.

Kristie - It might be nice if you added some of these suggestions about how to find difficult letters to your original guidelines post?

Funny, I thought this post was in a different thread where Sarah had said that she didn't find much on listopia. I have no idea how it ended up here. I must have been really over tired.

Lynn - I put the one for listopia in that thread, but I'll add this one too.

message 11: by Susan (new)

Susan Elizabeth (susan_e_lizabeth) Ha! I thought it was the guidelines post at first, too. Thanks for the suggestions everyone! I was trying listopia and then I realized it was consuming my day, so I took a break. I've been on the fence about whether or not I want to read A Visit for the Goon Squad, but I needed a V, so...

I keep seeing Xo and thinking it's Jeffery Deaver's XO, which I read last month. I haven't heard of xo, y1, and z2 - maybe I'll check them out :)

This is definitely a good exercise in expanding my reading list.

Thanks again all!

Susan - A lot of people do add XO, but if you search XO there are a bunch of books with that title (maybe ten or so). The book in the series above is x0 (zero). If you type XO, it doesn't come up. I've also noticed that a lot of people read one of the Xenocide books.

message 13: by Susan (new)

Susan Elizabeth (susan_e_lizabeth) I really love the "add book/author" function on here. It makes it so much easier to know exactly which book everyone is talking about. I want to read Xenocide, but should probably read Ender's Game first, ha.

message 14: by Susan (new)

Susan Elizabeth (susan_e_lizabeth) @Anima - My reading list has shifted, as well. I used to read primarily mystery and while I still love a good whodunnit, I'm reading all sorts of things these days on account of joining some book clubs.

Im the same way, I now love to read anything and everything. Ive joined a few book clubs to do exactly that, expand my reading selection and challenge myself! :)

message 16: by Susan (new)

Susan Elizabeth (susan_e_lizabeth) @Kari - I used to just breeze on past the best-sellers table and head straight to mystery, but now I can't even see the table without wanting to buy everything on it.

The zookeepers wife is on my list for z. It's been on my TBR list for some time, so the A-Z challenge was a great place for it.

message 18: by Susan (last edited May 18, 2013 07:37AM) (new)

Susan Elizabeth (susan_e_lizabeth) I've seen The Zoo Keeper's Wife on a couple lists and then I saw it at the library yesterday. Anyone here read it? Thoughts?

Also, for K, I've seen the Kingmaker's Daughter on some lists. I didn't realize at first it was Phillipa Gregory. Maybe I'll get it a try...

message 19: by Susan (new)

Susan Elizabeth (susan_e_lizabeth) Read Game of Thrones in a little over a week! Now ready to tackle the rest of the list!

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments Nice progress with your challenge Susan!

message 21: by Susan (new)

Susan Elizabeth (susan_e_lizabeth) Thanks Cathie! After reading Game of Thrones, I've taken a detour to read Clash of Thrones, but have my letter F book (The Fault In Our Stars) lined up to go once I done.

message 22: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments Our group discussed The Fault in Our Stars as one of our BOTM's earlier this year. You can find the thread under the Archived Monthly Reads folder if you want to see what others had to say :-)

message 23: by Susan (new)

Susan Elizabeth (susan_e_lizabeth) Thanks! I'll look into once I've finished.

message 24: by Susan (new)

Susan Elizabeth (susan_e_lizabeth) I started reading I Am Not a Serial Killer, but it turned out to be a supernatural thriller, which is not quite my type. Normally, I'd still give it a go, but I'm in the middle of the Song of Ice & Fire series, so I've been very picky with the books I'm reading in between!

message 25: by Susan (new)

Susan Elizabeth (susan_e_lizabeth) So many books I didn't get to last year! Recreating the list for 2014. Here are my hangovers - http://susan-e-lizabeth.blogspot.com/...
