Roger I'm reading "The Moonstone" by Wilkie Collins. It is good and dry at the first, but it eventually gets better.

message 52: by Tommie (new)

Tommie (tommiewolfe) The vampire lestat was a great book. original vampire and all. lol. Chosen was good too. but it was one of the House of night novels i least liked. Diana Jane (dees_world) | 22 comments im currently reading "House of Night" - Marked
Any new series that would be a good read?

message 62: by Tommie (new)

Tommie (tommiewolfe) well its not really new, but have you read the Meredith Gentry Series, its about the fey. The first book is called A Kiss Of Shawdows.

message 63: by Diana Jane (new)

Diana Jane (dees_world) | 22 comments no what's it about?

message 64: by Tommie (new)

Tommie (tommiewolfe) Fey. they are Faeries, but not exactly the nice kind. they are like us in some ways, they have things they can do. There is a Dark Court and a Light Court. Merry and her Cousin Cel (Kel is how you pronounce it) are in a race to Merry, get pregnant, or Cel to get a fey woman pregnant. The Fey dont get pregnant easily. But its fantasy, and it has a lot of killing, and torture scenes, and some sex scenes, but over all its a freakin awesome book.

message 65: by Roger (new)

Roger Sounds like a horror movie...

message 66: by Tommie (new)

Tommie (tommiewolfe) Its an AWESOME BOOK SERIES. lol but really its pretty cool how they go into depth explaining about how faerie works. you should try finding it and reading at least the first book.

message 67: by Roger (new)

Roger alright.

message 68: by Diana Jane (new)

Diana Jane (dees_world) | 22 comments i will.. you sound so passionate about it.
it should be good.

message 69: by Roger (new)

Roger I'm burnt out on young adult lit. I want to read nothing but classics now, so I can gain back what intelligence I lost while reading this stuff.

message 70: by Tommie (new)

Tommie (tommiewolfe) haha. awww... but its good. and funny.

message 71: by Diana Jane (new)

Diana Jane (dees_world) | 22 comments i love reading classics, because they're amazing.
but i love reading fiction, to escape reality.
either way i love reading.

message 72: by Roger (new)

Roger The Classics restore what I lost when I read the various young adult lit books. I swear I get on different reading kicks every month.

im not really into classics because they arent like what i am like, they dont face the same issues i face, and idk... i like books that i can easily relate to and that i can put myself into

message 74: by Roger (new)

Roger Well a lot of the classics show real life problems and teach life lessons. It's just that most people struggle with the language barrier because most of the classics were written like 100 years before we were even born.

message 75: by Tommie (new)

Tommie (tommiewolfe) i dont care much for life leasons.. i can learn that in life. But i like anything that gives me pleasure in reading. Fiction mostly. Werewolves, vampires and stuff like that.

message 77: by Orinshi (new)

Orinshi | 8 comments mmm....I just finished one of the vampire hunter d books. I can't say that I really liked it. As I've said before, vampires aren't my favorite candy. That being said I was mostly attracted to the books because I like anime and it was one of the first animes I'd ever seen. The book didn't disappoint in the sense that is was like the anime....but it did disappoint as lit. I loved how the world it was based on seemed more sci-fi then dark fantasy but the story was just a bunch of random encounters much like a d&d game. There was almost no character development and little to nothing intriguing about the story. Unless the authors consistent remarks on the characters beauty qualifies as character development. In the end, I think I'll stick to admiring the artwork.
Thats if for now...I'm off to read Dreamsongs (of something of that nature) by George R.R. Martin. I think he gives my brain a better candy fix.

message 78: by Roger (new)

Roger I get tired of reading about the same thing often times. That's why I get burnt out on young adult lit.

message 79: by Tommie (new)

Tommie (tommiewolfe) Well for me The warrior Heir was different. I was never into the whole, wizard and sorcerers and stuff like that. But this is sorta different. I liked it. I am sorta burning out on vampires too. But i will always like the werewolves. i liked it better when the two werent mixed together. like on book was about vampires. and another series was bout werewolves. i started a series about ONLY werewolves and now i cant remember the name of it. I fount it last yr in the PCHS library but i cant find it now. i've been looking for it.

message 80: by Orinshi (new)

Orinshi | 8 comments I don't know if I've ever read a book about werewolves. I had a roommate once who had recommended to me some pretty terrible books and movies. By the time she tried to tell me about some good books about it I had tuned her out. lol.

message 81: by Tommie (new)

Tommie (tommiewolfe) haha. well most of the books i read i love. or like. i never actually hated a book. i thought some books were horribly written, but still.

message 82: by Orinshi (new)

Orinshi | 8 comments The problem with badly written books is the time spent learning they are bad. I can't even bring myself to read a good book twice because there are so many books out there that I haven't read. The problem with a bad book is that I feel that I wasted my time on it when somewhere out there, there is a great book I could've been reading. Sigh...there just isn't enough time.

message 83: by Tommie (new)

Tommie (tommiewolfe) i know. there are just too many books to read in the world. good or bad.

message 84: by Orinshi (new)

Orinshi | 8 comments Its funny concerning people who recommend stuff. When someone you know is always recommending good books to you (matter of opinion I know) then you pick up everything they tell you about...but I've avoided books because of who recommended them. I remember it took me four years to get around to reading the lord of the rings trilogy because my brother (whose read all of three books in his life) thought they were great...yet my sister recommends the best stuff so I always read what she says is good. She also sells books for a living so she does a great job of knowing whats popular for what genre.

message 85: by Tommie (new)

Tommie (tommiewolfe) i still havent read single Lord of the Rings book. never cared for that stuff.

message 86: by Orinshi (new)

Orinshi | 8 comments Its a little dry overall and probably better listened to in audiobook so you can clean and do other stuff while listening. Overall though its a great thing to read because it was pretty much the platform for the fantasy genre to kickoff from. Most fantasy books in some way are based off of tolkiens world, sense most authors take his world and just twick it a bit to make it their own.

message 87: by Koori no hi (new)

Koori no hi I'm reading this set called Pellinor thi first three are the Naming, the Riddle, the Crow and the last one just came out two months ago it's called the Singing. I would kinda explain what they're about but each one is like 500+ pages so it's a complicated story about a runaway slave who turns out to be powerfully magical and there is a prophecy about her & her dead brother.

message 88: by Koori no hi (new)

Koori no hi A great & terrible beauty by Libba Bray it's really good so far, but kinda dark.

message 89: by Roger (new)

Roger Just finished Chosen & the novelization of the new Transformers movie. Both were really good.

message 90: by Koori no hi (last edited Jun 20, 2009 11:39AM) (new)

Koori no hi Try Graceling. Don't know how new it is, but it's about this girl who had this gift for killing. In her world anyone who has special gifts (graces) are called gracelings. so this girl's uncle the king uses her for assassinations and punishments for people who oppose him. it's really good.
