Not a big fan of either but get this: my son is in his high school marching band and next fall they will be peforming the music of the Doors.

You have no idea how old that makes me feel.

Ed Wagemann (edwagemann) | 1013 comments Wow, yeah. I'd love to see which songs they perform.

According to the Miami PD, he didn't much like wearing pants in general.

Let's just say high school has changed quite a bit since I was there.

The administration shot down the Edsel Ford High School Class of 1976's overwhelming landslide vote to adopt ZZ Top's "Beer Drinkers & Hell Raisers" as our class song for senior prom. Instead the nod went to Chicago's "Old Days."

Feh...

Edsel Ford High School? lol - are you making that shit up?

Nope. Dearborn, Michigan - hometown of Ford Motor Company.

Are they???

Ed Wagemann (edwagemann) | 1013 comments lol!

message 11: by ɯɐɔ (new)

ɯɐɔ (camalama) Argghhhhh no. Jim Morrison--in my opinion--is the first *real* rocker. However, Kurt Cobain opened up a new era, and basically was the leader of grunge. You're comparing two different genres, guys.

Oh, bloody hell! Just don't tell Chuck Berry, OK?

Is comparing two different genres not allowed or something?

Nanci Svensson | 14 comments Did you ever READ Morrison's poetry??? It's so effing bad that I cringe.
Yeah, he's probably the only man who ever got away with wearing leather pants - why couldn't he just have been pleased with that legacy?
And what's up with the pilgrimages to his grave? Come on.

message 15: by [deleted user] (new)

I dunno... I always thought the Romantics rocked the leather-pants thing admirably:

Problem was, you had to have the body fat content of a praying mantis to pull it off.

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

Sounds sexual.

message 17: by Nanci (new)

Nanci Svensson | 14 comments If a bloated dead junkie in a bathtub donning a pair of leather pants sound sexual to you, yeah. But I'll congratulate you to a fascinating libido!

And ok, there may have been one or two other leather pants bearers that need not be flogged.

message 18: by Ed (new)

Ed Wagemann (edwagemann) | 1013 comments Ha! Nice pic of the Romantics!

Ed Wagemann (edwagemann) | 1013 comments Michael, what do you mean that Cobain was not a musician. He played drums, guitar, wrote songs, sang. Compared to Morrison didn't play any instruments at all (except his voice box) that seems like a bizarre statement.

In 1981 Elk Lake High School's administration vetoed our chosen class song of Joe Walsh's Life's Been Good So Far and instead took the first runner up (at less than half the votes) Styx's Come Sail Away. Just sayin' IMHO if it is the Senior Class' Song, the Class members should be allowed to choose it and administration should butt out.

Both of their music lives on. In a sense therefore, so do they.
