What's the best movie made from a book?

The only book-to-movie adaptation I really hated was Under the Tuscan Sun.

I also liked the movie " Blindness" based on Jose Saramago's book.
Both movies were shown in my book club and the exercise was a success, and enjoyable.
I can't think of any I have hated but I thought the movie version of " The Painted Veil" did not stick too closely to the book. It was more romanticized, which was a nice surprise, but at the same a let down because I knew the movie took another turn.

What other books-into-movies have you enjoyed? Or hated?"
I am reluctant to see The Great Gatsby. The ads are very visually appealing and look true to the era. The actors are great. However, setting is very important to this novel so my reluctance comes from the music and choreography. I don't like when modern music is used as a background to a period piece. This era had its own wonderfully exciting music and dance steps that are characteristic to its time.
Donna: I have the same feeling about the soundtrack of The Great Gatsby. I love some of the performers but when I think of The Great Gatsby, Jack White, Jay-Z and Lana Del Rey are not the musical names that come to mind.
My best movie made from a book is Scott Pilgrim. It really captured the spirit of the graphic novels and was as much fun as the books.
