Anima Miejska | 1698 comments I think we can come up with some ideas, there are various types of challenges - spell it out, reading books according to genres, themes or setting some other goals to achieve through reading.

message 52: by Roberta (new)

Roberta Would In Cold Blood be an "I" or a "C" book? I'm thinking "I" but I'm not sure.

message 53: by Anima (new)

Anima Miejska | 1698 comments I would put it under "i" as only "a", "an" and "the" do not count.

message 54: by Lynn, Moderator (new)

Lynn | 4465 comments Mod
Yup, definitely under I

message 55: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (rachelkisley) I have only just discovered this and think it is a great idea. Is it only a 2013 thing or can it be done any time? I doubt I'd get through 26 books between now and the end of December!

I thought this was a really neat idea and I'm starting a 2014 list. Perhaps a new thread can be started for a 2014 A-Z challenge just so it would be easier to differentiate?

No new thread is needed, the challenge is entirely personal to yourself. You can start and finish when you want, just like you can choose the rules of what type of books / what order you read etc. :)

Each person has their own thread here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...

I have two different A-Z Challenges going right now. I won't be done until sometime in 2014 too. Feel free to set up a thread and personalize your challenge.

Excellent idea Erica :) I will start mine in January and it will be a 2014 challenge :)

Thank you, I will start my own thread for my 2014 A-Z challenge, gives me a bit of time to pick my books too!

message 61: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (rachelkisley) I have just finalised my A-Z challenge list, so I'll post my own thread so others can see what I'll be reading if anyone is interested. I'll probably blog it too, so it's like a journal for myself :)

✿ ♥ Heather ♥ ✿ (frangiegal) | 181 comments I think I might do this too. Can you back date at all?

message 63: by Lynn, Moderator (new)

Lynn | 4465 comments Mod
Heather - It's a very relaxed A to Z over here, you create your own rules. If you want to back date then you do it :)

Cool, was just testing out your post Lynn

Kristie | 6819 comments Mod
Heather - I don't know if you know this already, but if you change the "s" to an "i", it will italicize your word or change the "s" to a "b" for bold. If you change the "s" to the word "spoiler", it will hide the text under a spoiler tag. Keep everything else the same, just change out the one letter.

message 74: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (teff1979) | 69 comments thats great to know i didn not this any other cool functions like that

message 79: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 6819 comments Mod
You can read any books you'd like to for the A-Z challenge, even if they are BOMs or count towards your choice awards challenge. :)

message 80: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (teff1979) | 69 comments Great this won't be smash bad as I thought then

message 81: by Stacey (new)

Stacey | 11 comments Too many life changes in 2013 prevented me from reading much this year. This challenge is the perfect way to get back into the game.

Susan Elizabeth (susan_e_lizabeth) Just came across this list: 100 books to read before they're movies
http://www.buzzsugar.com/Books-Made-M...

It covers a lot of letters :)

Some, of course, have already been addressed in this group, but there are others than I hadn't heard about.

message 84: by Anima (new)

Anima Miejska | 1698 comments Susan, it is an awesome list, thanks for the link!

Soooo cool. My A-Z challenge this year already hasEast of Eden by John Steinbeck and A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole. I would love to see them as movies. I also have The Story of Edgar Sawtelle by David Wroblewski. On hold at the library I have Wild From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail by Cheryl Strayed. These I have read that I really look forward to are The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls and The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern and The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeckand Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter and Dark Places by Gillian Flynn and Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. So many others I would love to read before the movie - The Sound and the Fury by William Faulkner...

message 91: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) Someone is going to make a movie of The Thin Man? Sacrilege! William Powell and Myrna Loy are the ONLY Nick & Nora!

☼♎ Carmen the Bootyshaker Temptress ☼♎ | 27 comments I think will be a great challenge. I'm in. I am going to mix it up with author's names and book titles too. I'm going to add a post when I'm at my computer.

message 93: by Susan (last edited Feb 18, 2014 05:59PM) (new)

Susan Elizabeth (susan_e_lizabeth) @Sarah - how was Beautiful Ruins? I've been debating whether or not to read that one...

LOVED Dark Places. Did you also read Sharp Objects?

Hey Paula

You need to start your own thread rather than on here.

Go to https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group... then click on the link at top right hand side of the page that's called 'new topic'

message 95: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 19 comments I'm having a hard time finding books that start with the letters Q, X, Z.

Any suggestions?

Hi Jennifer - The first post has some helpful hints to find books for the hard letters. I'm not at my computer to leave links, but I have a few ideas. I'll try to post later.
