Hayley | 1 comments Hi Sarah!! My name is Hayley and I have read a lot of books, but yours are by far my favorite. I was wondering what your favorite book you have ever written is? My favorite so far is Lock and Key, but I have not read all of them yet!!Can't wait to find you in the pages!!

Rachel (rachelsimpson) | 1 comments hello ;
i particularly like the names of you characters - haven, halley, macy and auden just to name a few. are there any stories behind these names and how do you come up with them?
thank you (:

message 153: by Alison (new)

Alison Lam Hi Sarah! I'm a huge fan of yours and I absolutely love your books! I'm so excited to purchase your newest book, The Moon and More. My question for you is: Are these characters and story lines based off of your imagination, yourself, or off of real people you have encountered? Thank you!

message 154: by Gaby (new)

Gaby | 1 comments Hi Sarah,

I am one of your many admirers here on Goodreads, which, I suppose, means the likelihood of you reading this is slim, but I'll try my luck anyways. My biggest question is; how much of your life is in your books? Do you channel your emotions and experiences into your writing? Your stories often deal with such heavy topics for teens and adults alike and I thank you for that, because this way we know we are not alone. The magic of your words has reached me many times over and I absorb every ounce of it.

Keep writing and take care
Gaby

Sarah Gayda | 1 comments Hi Sarah!
To start out, I've been into your books for maybe two-three years now. After all the wonderful stories you've written, there's always been a question to interest me: Which book is your favorite?

Mine is probably "Just Listen"-It was the first book of yours that I ever read, and I'm so VERY glad I did.
Thank you so much for writing!

message 156: by Cami (new)

Cami S. Hi Sarah! My name is Cami. I was wondering why many of your books take place in the same town or mention the same town or city.

message 157: by Anna (new)

Anna (anna-wa) | 1 comments What's your favorite book(s) by other authors?

Would you ever write a book that isn't set in the summer time?

:)

message 158: by Chloe (new)

Chloe Hi Sarah!!! I have read four of your books and I absolutely love them!!! I was wondering how do you keep our books in a similar style but they are still original and utterly gripping? I managed to read three of your books in one week, I had a whole pile of them to read!!!

message 159: by Caitlyn (new)

Caitlyn Barker (caitlynannereads) Hello Sarah. I would really love to be an author myself one day, but I have this one big problem. I always get stuck with writers block at the most inconvenient of times. How do you get through writers block and help your imagination running? Thank you, Caitlyn. x

message 160: by Khushboo (new)

Khushboo (snuggle-bunny) Hi. I wanted to know this from the very first day when I finished Just Listen, which was the first book I read that was written by you, how do you make the problems look so big and then make them go away in a way that we can feel the transition, like were you a psychology major or something? I love your books and they are all about broken people healing and we can practically feel those people. How do you make it all look so real? If I ever decide to write, you are going to be the my writing role model.

message 161: by Ashton (new)

Ashton | 1 comments Hi, my name is ashton. I started to read your books about a year ago, and I fell in love with your stories. I have cried and laughed in all the books I have read of yours. I will be in college in a year and im trying to decide what i want to do, one of my many favorite things to do is to write. knowing that the story is yours and that you can change and mold the story into an adventure that you wish would happen in real life. I consider writing an escape from reality and a break from your own life. When I read your books I feel as though I am in the book, either the main character or an observer, that watches and hears everything that is happening to the characters. i have a few questions for you... 1) where do you get the inspiration to write these amazing books? 2) did you always want to he a writer, of not what brought you to becoming one? 3) do you have any tips on how to write a book? 4) do you ever put your life experiences in the book. 5) who's your favorite author?

message 162: by holdenhand (new)

holdenhand (siebear) | 1 comments Hello Sarah! First, I want to thank you for the books I have enjoyed for the past ten years, they have been a wonderful part of my adolescence and adult life. I was curious which of your characters you most identify with-- because they are all so distinct. Thank you for taking the time to read this, I really appreciate it.

message 163: by Julz (new)

Julz Hello Sarah,

Thank you for so many great novels. I have just read the Moon and More and loved it like so many of your other books.I really appreciate your ability to have such interesting characters in your books and that the peripheral characters and not just the main characters are so well developed. It is hard to not get attached to them all. My question is similar to Devon's. I would love to know what happens with Luke and Emaline in the future. Do you think that we might get a glimpse of them in another book to satisfy our curiosity? Would you consider writing a novella in the future to extend what is happening in the future of your characters?

Clarissa | 2 comments Heyy! Clarissa here!

How do u write a book? I've tried, I'm only 14. But I would love to be a best-selling author one day. There's just soo many concepts to grasp ahold of. Like the characters, back stories, the scenery, and details, how do u manage all of this?

Do u write ur stories using a laptop? Do u carry it around with u incase u get inspiration?

How do u publish a book? How do u get publishing companies to read and publish a book? Do u need an agent to do tht?

Kevin (fearlesskurt) | 1 comments Good Day, Ms. Dessen. I'm Kurt, your assistant from Festival of books in LA. I've already asked you enough questions from the festival, but here is one; I know most of your fans are girls, but what can you say about your guy fans, like me, who also adore and read your books?

message 167: by Piseog (new)

Piseog | 1 comments Hi Sarah, what is your favourite book to read and what is your favourite book you've written?

message 168: by Laura (new)

Laura S (booknerd94) | 1 comments Hi there,
I find the stories you write can be misinterpreted as silly girl books when in a matter of fact they tackle quiet serious issues. The question I wanted to ask was how do you ensure you still fit in the teenage section of the library and bookstores whilst tackling these issues?

message 169: by Chaela (new)

Chaela T. Hi Sarah! I'm just really curious: who are your favorite characters? Like, if you would place yourself in a reader's shoes and just read all eleven (twelve, if you include the novella Infinity) books you've ever made, who would your favorite characters be? Or the characters whom you would relate the most to?

message 170: by Adri (new)

Adri Heyns (adriheyns) | 1 comments Hi Sarah
I am such a big fan of your work, you are absolutely one of my favourite writers. Okay so weird question as a teenager/kid what were your worst fears and your biggest dreams?
And secondly will you ever write a series?

message 171: by Mònica (new)

Mònica Devant | 1 comments Hi Sarah!

My name is Mònica and I'm from Spain. I'm lucky that last year began to get your books in Spain, the title caught my attention "This Lullaby" and "just listen" and only read them I loved you. I've become a big fan yours. I wait patiently for the incremental all other books. I recently came "keeping the moon", it's great! Do you plan to someday come to a book signing? I would like you to come to Catalonia :)

message 172: by Louisa (new)

Louisa O'Donnell | 1 comments Hi Sarah! I absolutely adore your books, Someone Like You was the first one I read and I fell madly in love with it. I dreamed of having a friendship like Halley and Scarlett, such a heartwarming read. I was wondering if you have a favourite character from any of your novels or one you particularly relate to?
Thank you for writing the books I will treasure forever.

message 173: by Summer (new)

Summer Sunsets | 1 comments Hey Sarah! I'm Summer and I'm in love with you're books. Especially Lock and Key. Do you plan out your'e whole story before or after? How do you remember all the names and problems throughout the story? What is to the moon and back about?

Lots of love from Summer

message 174: by Dongyeful (new)

Dongyeful | 1 comments Hi Sarah! I love your writing style and fell in love with your books, especially dreamland. I was wondering how did you come up with the stories you write, do you get real people and put them in your stories? Especially, how did you came up with the story dreamland? :)

message 175: by Leo (new)

Leo (soulofthesilvertrees) | 1 comments Hi Sarah!! i read Lock & Key at the beginning of this year, and that was the first book written by you that I have ever read, but ever since, I have been ordering your books! I also wanted to tell you that your writing is just amazing! I really love your books!

So here are some of my questions:

1. When did you start writing, and why?
2. Did anyone or anything give you inspirations? If so, who were they?
3. Where do you get your fabulous ideas from?
4. What genre of books do you like to read the most?
5. Is anything from your books related to you in real life?
And last but definitely not least, do you know just how many people love you and your books?!

Leo, thank you for your time!!
Thanks!

message 176: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa (vanessarox) | 1 comments Hi Sarah my name's Vanessa and I'm such a huge fan and hope to become as good of an author like you one day.Where do you get your insparation to write? How would you reccommend becoming an author??I look forward to your answersxD

message 177: by Cerize (new)

Cerize (cerizeseries) Hi Miss Sarah! You're books are really inspirational. I love them! I just want to ask, what are your inspirations behind your books? And this might be out of the blue but, do you believe in magic and destiny? Thank you and more power! :)

message 178: by Anneleen (new)

Anneleen | 1 comments Hi Sarah! I am Anneleen from Belgium and your books are really amazing! Because there are only 2 of your books translated into dutch, I started reading your books in English and now I only read English books! The moon and more arrived on my doorstep today, I can't wait to read it!
So, here is my question: many of your books are set in Colby or Lakeview. If you could pick an existing country or place to set your books, what would it be?
My favorite book is Just Listen, I read it twice a year because I love it so much!
Thank you, and hopefully you will come to Belgium one day sp you can eat the best waffles and macaroons ;-)

Erin Smith (erindotsmith) (erindotsmith) | 1 comments Hello! I've been reading your books since I was a teenager and now I recommend them to my high school students (as well as continue to read them myself- in fact, I happen to be reading one right now). My question is: How do you keep in touch with what it's like to be a teenager and capture those experiences so well in your novels?

message 180: by Laura (new)

Laura (lauratheliterarylady) | 1 comments Hello, Sarah. Awesome to be able to talk to you and ask a question. I'm a high school reading teacher and I've read nearly all of your books. I was hooked when I read Lock and Key. I love to turn both my female and male students on to your books. It has made readers out of many who previously hadn't found a book they enjoy. Thank you for crafting interesting, meaningful, and lively YA books.

So, on to my question: Thinking back to the first novel you wrote and published, did you know the entire journey your characters wer gong to take before you began writing or did you allow them to take their own journey with you following along? I am stuck at a crucial point in my first novel and don't know where to take/don't know how to let my character lead me next.

Thanks for any light you can shed on this.

message 181: by bea (new)

message 183: by Stef (new)

Stef Wade (stefwade) | 1 comments Hi Sarah!
I'm a big fan of your work and a YA writer myself. I'm interested in your beginning. How long did it take you to find an agent? Was it through query or other means? Looking forward to reading The Moon and More!

Fatima (Curly_Monster) | 1 comments Hi Sarah! My names Fatima and I'm from Sweden. I'm seriously in love with your work and can't get enough.
I have two questions for you

1. Have you ever thought of doing a signing in Europe?
2. I'm starting collage in a couple of months, so any advice?

Thank you! Xx

message 185: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (willbetemporary) | 1 comments Hi Sarah,

I read "This Lullaby" on a car trip with my parents when I was fifteen and I've been loyally following your work for the nine years since then. It affected me in a way that very few books ever have (and I am an AVID reader!), and remains very special to me to this day. I saw you tweet recently that you started drafting a sequel just for fun and I literally teared up because that would mean such huge things to me.

I'm a writer myself, recently graduated with a degree in Creative Writing and working on my first book. I'd love nothing more than to be able to meet you and talk for a while about writing and girls and life!

My question here is an easy one, only because I NEED TO KNOW. Is Luke's Melissa from Tallyho in "The Moon and More" meant to be Melissa West aka "total skank" from "Lock and Key"?! I NEED TO KNOW, I NEED TO KNOW.

Thank you so much for your time, and thank you so much for your work!!!!

message 186: by Keren (new)

Keren | 1 comments Hi Sarah! I'm intrigued by how you come up with small details that make a lasting impact in your books? For example with Emaline one thing is the shrimp burger.Colby sounds like a place I would want to spend one summer. Oh and when are you coming to London? Love you and your books.

message 187: by Dani (new)

Dani | 1 comments Hi Sarah, thank you for your lovely books (I read That Summer for the first time when I was in middle school and devoured the others since then xD)

My question(s):
-Will you please have Ruby and/or Nate make a cameo in your future books? (Selfish request; they're my favorite couple)

-Where do you find your names/come up with them? (Some of them are pretty unique, like McLean)

-Just how much are your characters based on people you know in real life and how much purely imaginative?

message 188: by Lindsay (new)

Lindsay | 1 comments Hey Sarah! What's you favorite thing to do after one of your books comes out?

I look forward to your reply!

Lindsay

message 189: by Nana Lee (new)

Nana Lee | 1 comments Hi Sarah! I'm Jonna from the Philippines. I do hope you'll be invited to visit us here. My friends and I love your books! Are there any news if one of your books will have a movie adaptation? I hope they'll do 'This Lullaby'. :)

message 190: by Mikayla (new)

Mikayla | 1 comments Hi Sarah!! I absolutely LOVE your books!! You are my favorite author. I have a couple of questions for you. :)

1. Have you ever thought about writing a sequel to one of your books?
2. Is there some truth in your books? Like you wrote about something that actually happened to you and put it in the book? I'm not sure if that made complete sense.....
3. Which book of yours is your favorite?
4. Who is your favorite author?

Thank you so much if you reply, I know there are many others. :)

message 191: by Katie (new)

Katie Fowler (katiefowlerhawkins) Sarah,
You've been one of my favorite authors since I was in Junior High School (I'm 27 now!) and I've followed your blog (even before twitter was a "thing"!) and one of things I love about you is that you're not a "literary snob". You enjoy the consumption of media in all forms! Books, TV Shows, Music... so knowing you as a fan... my question is:

How do you feel about the VERONICA MARS MOVIE!? =)

message 192: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (ahebert) Hi Sarah! Like a bundle of others, I hope to someday have the ability to capture an audience the way you have mastered in your writing. I feel that - in the world of major blockbuster films - writing is a medium that is both raw and fragile, in that it takes a higher quality story to gather the attention that a film with a poor plot but silly amount of explosions can. What are your feelings about movies being made from books? I find that a large amount of films that come out each year are not original scripts, but instead adaptations from authors like you. I know you have had a movie made from a blend of two of your older works, so I figured it would be interesting to hear your point of view. Thank you!

message 193: by Margret (new)

Margret Lo | 3 comments Hi Sarah! It's me again. As you know, I am a HUGE fan I am currently reading all of your books. So far I love ALL of your books but if I had to choose a favourite, it would be The Truth About Forever, it's such a cute book. I am never, never disappointed with your writing, I was wondering though, how did you know you wanted to become a writer and what or who really helped you to develop your skills and become a writer today?

message 194: by Casey (new)

Casey Boyle | 1 comments Hey Sarah I am a huge fan I have read all your books like 3 times. I was wondering if after the moon and more if you plan or writing any others? and I also wanted to ask where you got the idea for Pinville

message 195: by Kasia (new)

Kasia | 1 comments Hello Sarah,
I was just wondering about something that bothers me a lot when I'm writing. I'm not sure whether to start a story slowly and carefully with lots of planing (this tends to be boring and I lose interest) or launch myself right in (sometimes I get tangled up with this). What helps you?
Thank you!

message 196: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Hi Sarah! I was lucky enough to get to meet you and get a copy of "The Moon and More" at BEA this year. It was my favorite part! As many of your readers (myself included) are technically no longer "young adults" have you ever considered writing an adult fiction book?

message 197: by Colleen (new)

Colleen (ckfoster) What inspires you when you are writing novels? - especially along for the ride and this lullaby

message 198: by Precious (last edited Jun 18, 2013 08:25AM) (new)

Precious Coardes (daydreamer-goodreadscom_unique) | 1 comments Hi Sarah!

Okay, well in honest truth, I have no idea how many books I've read that you've written, so to keep the story short... I LOVE YOUR BOOKS!!!! You're a brilliant author and your books really speak to me. Now, just so you know, my one and only dream is to become a successful and famous author someday and have a lot of fans who love the books. I've already finished the first novel of my series and am now editing it for the thousandth time, and I was wondering, what do I do next? I feel like I got off an hour long plane ride and I'm super lost. How do you find an editor? How do you find a publishing company to send the manuscript to? How did you start writing? Have you always wanted to be an author? When you do write, do you create a plot line and character outline? Or do you feel the outlines slows you down? Is your new book about someone searching for love or is it more a learn a lesson type of story? (either way, I love them both). Oh, and, when your books are out in a store, do you buy them and read them for your own enjoyment? Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions and give some advice.

Sincerely,
Precious Coardes

Asa B | 1 comments Hello Sarah!
It's Asa. I hope you enjoyed your card and cupcake I gave you on your birthday and I would like to thank you on behalf of all of your Houston fans for coming down here!! You are a great inspiration and an absolutely wonderful woman :)
The first question I have, just as some others I'm sure have asked, is what happened to Theo? Did you purposefully leave out his whereabouts to give your readers a chance to decide on their own? Also, how is your new book coming along? I remember how you said that you saw how your maturity as a writer is shown in this book (The Moon and More) and I totally agree and this is why I am eager for your new book to come out!!

Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions!

With Love,
Asa B.
