I started Everything I Know this morning. It's reminding me about the bad parts of my own job. lol. With the whole "do more programs" and "do more programs better!" when our teens don't seem to want more because they're doing their own thing. *sigh*

Yeah, it gets down under your skin, like a disease, and won't let go. I'm doing my best to keep calm and shut up, but it's hard. Especially when they want to get rid of our free homework help program.

Anyway, that said, I'm looking forward to my lunch break when I can dive back into the book and hopefully get to some good parts!

Susinok | 5205 comments I am reading Finding Jackie by Lou Sylvre. This series is well written, but the situations and characters are rather overwhelming at times. Sonny is temperamental and a diva at times, Luki is very emotional and also temperamental, and the crime situations are rather gruesome. Though I like the books, I need to read 'em in small doses. I think the latest that just came out wraps up the series (I sort of hope so.)

How do you rate something like that? I like 'em but not all together at the same time, hehe.

This one is on the waiting its turn list, I really liked the others in the series, despite some flaws. I like the characters very much, but I agree in what you say about their intensity. Books like that need to be read with others in between, to create headspace for the next installment. Many series are like that I find, reading them too close together creates overload.

message 4812: by Susinok (new)

Susinok | 5205 comments I did go on, despite my trepidations, to continue with Saving Sonny James after finishing the last story. This one has a different plot to it. Luki has to save Sonny from a stalker in Paris. Should be interesting!

Yep, intense as always, but I really hate to put a series down when there are other books out there. I am really bad about just going and going. I read all of the JR Ward books back to back until I was caught up, all of the Christine Feehan Ghostwalker and vampire series back to back (over 30 in the vampire series!), so yeah, series junkie here.

Just started Death Blew Out the Match by Kathleen Moore Knight.

It looks like there was a lot of initial excitement over her debut, but she's entirely forgotten now.

I've started one of the anthologies for the UK Meet in past years. So far, it's alright. JCP had a good short story in it that I liked. But the two I've read since that one are just so-so. I might just skip around and read the authors I like and skip the rest, which isn't the point of reading it, I know. But still, I've got a lot of books to read this month!

I don't know. So many books, so little time. That does seem to be what it boils down to!

Definitely. Charlie's story about a sloth shifter was hilarious. And so far Elin Gregory's story isn't bad. But I did skip one since I'm not into lesbian stories, but we'll see about the rest.

Girl-child has been working her way through my Christie the last few months. She's spending the summer at my parents', and Mom says she's read all of hers (Mom's) as well and is starting in on the library's. Apparently she's also moved on to Rita Mae Brown and Sneaky Pie Brown (which she'll find a nice collection of at that library. It's a small-town library but the best I've ever been to). I may have to take some time while I'm childless for the summer to reread myself.

Finished Lashings of Sauce this morning. And yes, I did skip several of the stories if I didn't know the author's name. But, the authors I did know, I really enjoyed their work. I think Josephine's story was one of my favorites.

Now I'm gonna start Tea and Crumpet this afternoon, and I'm already planning on skipping a few. I might go back later when I have more time and peruse the ones by authors I'm not familiar with. We'll see.

After this, it's summer reading time!

I enjoy anthologies because by their very nature there is the chance of discovering a new author who you really enjoy. And I'm not just saying that because my story is probably one of the ones you skipped ;)

KC | 4897 comments Read Nava's The Burning Plain. I liked the previous ones because of that mix of beautiful, poetic writing and suspenseful courtroom scenes, and getting to know the main character, Henry Rios, but this one felt too long and more depressing than usual. There's one more in the series and i plan to read it because i must know what happens to the MC and also because for some reason i'm hoping against hope that there will be a bit of happy something somewhere in there...

message 4837: by Susinok (new)

Susinok | 5205 comments I am reading A Casual Weekend Thing by AJ Thomas which is turning into a fairly serious suspense novel. Well written. I loved his Sex & Sourdough, which featured hiking on the Appalachian Trail.

The main characters in Weekend are quite active as well. One is a super long distance runner (we have a guy at work who does those) and the other hikes. I get the feeling the author is quite the outdoors person.

Oh, no. I just finished The Hidden Law Wednesday and it made me cry. I felt it was the most personal of the series I've read so far, and really beautifully written in many parts. I'm not sure how much more I can handle...

Well, i felt this one was different, a different kind of depressing...frustrating-depressing rather than emotional/touching-depressing. Not that i can take much more of either, but there is one book left and i am glad i read all the other books in the series.

Yes, apparently it is. I had a very kind note from John a while back thanking me for years of enjoyable reading. I thought that was a really nice gesture.

Fantastic... I'm gonna spend the evening reading it :)

I have been waiting for Six Degrees of Agony which was supposed to be out in April, then June and now it seems there might be quite a few months until the release. All because of the author changing to Dreamspinner.

I just read the sample and bought it. It reminds me of what I enjoyed about John le Carré, but with the sexual tension unsuppressed. : ) This may be exactly what I'm looking for right now.

I'm reading the Michael Nava books, just finished the fourth, a beautiful downer. I'm also re-reading JCP's Channeling Morpheus series, along with her new GR group. I read Lou Harper's latest Temper Sanguine, a favorite series. I love how matter-of-factly her paranormals relate to their roles in the world. And I love how they love each other.

Then I got sidetracked by a book by a new-to-me author whose latest was highly rated on Amazon's Gay and Lesbian Mysteries list. (Stranger on the Shore is still #1!) Argh! I was fooled by the sample, and that seldom happens. There was a lot of potential in the premise, but it turned out to be one of those angst-fests where the MCs don't talk to each other when they need to. Then when they do talk to each other or to themselves (silently TG), they say things that no one really says. I hope. There's also one of the worst mom characters ever, and that's saying a lot for angsty m/m.

OK, rant over. New book loaded. : )
