She's very good. I bought this but won't have time to read for a bit. I'm looking forward to how she winds it all up.

Yes, I loved his sense of humor, and the way he dealt with the racism. I was laughing with him during some of those times. :-)
I think you had just enough about his background/religion that it wasn't too little or too much. Too much more would have been too much, I think. Too overwhelming for the casual reader? I don't know.

Bella - cool! Let me know what you think. It's a minor issue in the book (it's not *about* that), but it's absolutely a fundamental part of Mahir's identity, and he uses it to good effect to build an alternative identity while undercover. :)Jordan - Yep. I didn't want to make it too big a deal because in his head it's not a huge deal and he *has* much bigger problems to deal with. Also, he's in his thirties, so his identity is kinda settled and he's got a calm core. I *assume* things would have been worse for him in his teens and twenties though.

I have the Chambers trilogy as well. Next time I'm in the mood for a historical, I'll read them.Right now I'm reading Cardeno C's latest, Perfect Imperfections. I like her stuff when I am in the mood for something light. After the latest SE Jakes, something light is a good thing.
Loaded on my readers, post-Stranger on the Shore:
Enlightened,
Daylight Again,
Necropolis, and coming soon...
Hostile Ground.
All over the place, once again... : )

Heh, I checked out my "Most Read Authors" on here and there's Josh right at number 2 with 40 titles. Though Jordan Castillo Price is snapping at his heels with 37. But both have a long way to go to catch up with Terry Pratchett on a huge 59! :D

Latest SE Jakes...u r talking about Daylight Again , aren't u?? The ending was awesome :D
Just started Greenwode, and I'm somewhere in the middle of chapter one, and loving it so far.
I might have to get this in print or ebook at some point. For now, the audio is fantastic.

If I recall correctly, Stranger Things Have Happened: An Adrien English Write Your Own Damn Story will be one of the next books I get to. Finally! I have to catch up with Henry Rios's second installment, and then I can get back to Adrien and Jake. :-D Wicked excited about both novels.
I am finishing the second Nick Nowak Mystery by MarshallThornton Boystown: Three Nick Nowak Mysteries and I am also reading a few Lynn Hagen shifter/paranormal stories. I really like Marshall Thornton's mysteries. They have a kind of wry humour and the mysteries are good because they keep me guessing.

I think I bought books two and three at least for the Nick Nowak books. At some point I'll get back into them. I really did enjoy the first one when we read it for our BOM awhile back.

Just starting to re-read The Great Gatsby. It's been a long time since I've read it. I was surprised that you can get the Kindle edition free from Amazon.com.

I think so, it does seem to be well liked, but I must admit I was bored most of the time through it
I started Rick R. Reed's latest this morning, Dinner at Home. I enjoy his romances.Waiting for my Riptide email saying Hostile Ground is ready to download!
Idamus wrote: "I finally finished Collide I think it took me a week, despite skipping the sex scenes, so.much.sex 2 stars"Yeah, I wasn't crazy about that one, either.
I finally had time to finish Stranger on the Shore last night so I need to go read the BOTM thread. :)I also finished Dirty Deeds and Daylight Again which were okay.
I am currently reading Bones by Garrett Leigh. I loved the first in her Blue Boys series, Bullet.
Susinok wrote: "Waiting for my Riptide email saying Hostile Ground is ready to download!"Me, too. I'm excited! :)

It's not free in the US. :( I do remember that blue cover from when I read it in high school. I was thinking I had an old copy somewhere but who knows where it would be. I'd like to re-read, too. It's been years.
Sometime around Christmas Gatsby ebook was on sale for 1.99. I bought it then, along with a few other classics. It has the blue cover! For some reason my Lit classes in college all missed Gastby. For an English Major, that was a huge gap in my eduction. I read it in my late 30s, early 40s for the first time and found it just amazing. I think if I had read it at 20 I would not have appreciated it nearly as much.
It's free in the UK, so I just downloaded it. I have a Penguin paperback, which I must have owned for a long time as it cost £1.25.I last read it in 2009 according to Goodreads, so I reckons it's time for a reread. Oh, and I just looked at Audible and they have a bunch of Gatsby audiobooks of course, including one narrated by Jake Gyllenhaal. Right, I'm having that.
OMG, Jake G. Reading Gatsby?! Oh boy. I might have to check that out.
Btw, since so many of us want to reread this, why don't we make it a BOM book? I'm sure it would be better now than when I read it in high school.
Also my paperback edition of JCP's A Bitter Taste Of Sweet Oblivion just arrived! I made it one of my summer reading books. The first one, Channeling Morpheous, wasn't really my cup of tea but someone here said the second one was better so I'm giving it a try.

Update: I listened to samples of various narrators and Jake G. Has the best voice, I think. :-) I put this on my wish list for now.

Its a good idea, I have read the book in high school too, but in a german translation and thought I should reread it in english.
For a bit light reading, I take my Colin Cotterills to the park. By all lightness, you get a good glimpse of Laos and I like the combination mystery and ghosts.
This weekend i read Nava's Howtown which i couldn't put down. I think i've finally "let go" of Hansen and comparisons and i'm now fully enjoying Nava's wonderful writing and characters. Then i started B.G.Thomas' Spring Affair which i'm enjoying so far, however i'm worried about where he's going with the portrayal of the only woman character.
Sabine wrote: "For a bit light reading, I take my Colin Cotterills to the park. I also enjoyed the other series he started with Killed at the Whim of a Hat - his books are a lot of fun.
Finished up Hostile Ground yesterday. I was on edge worrying about how this book will resolve with everyone intact. Very suspenseful! Then I read a short and intense novella, Black Dog by Cat Grant. It was very good!

In case you read the 2nd and 3rd Jimm Juree, is it crucial to read the 2nd before the 3rd?
KC wrote: "Sabine wrote: "KC wrote: "Sabine wrote: "For a bit light reading, I take my Colin Cotterills to the park. Hm, I think it is better to read the books in order. The end of the third one is a cliffhanger and Jimm's family interacted with each other.
Sabine wrote: "KC wrote: "Sabine wrote: "KC wrote: "Sabine wrote: "For a bit light reading, I take my Colin Cotterills to the park. By all lightness, you get a good glimpse of Laos and I like the combination myst..."Thank you :-) will be reading them in order then.
Patricia Wentwoth! The amazing Miss Silver? It's a while since I read them, but they capture a certain way of life before, during, and after a war very well. I can't recall which war it was, and don't have access to the computer to check. I love vintage mysteries!
I have read 3 or 4 books of P. Wentworth, but in german, and that is in most cases not the same. But I read all Ngaio Marsh Books, Agatha Christie, Dorothy Sayers,Earl Derr Biggers, Mary Roberts Rhinehart, S.S. van Dine and so on, if I could lay my hands on them. That's so much easier now. Do you read them for fun or for Kit, or for Doyle and Spain?

I adore Mahir. I adore how he dealt with racism, and I adore his deep humanity. #TeamMahir (Of course, Lori s #TeamRidley), but obviously she's wrong. :)
