What Are you Reading?
I saw it coming though. And I don't see how he'd stay in retirement otherwise. I'd like to think positive, but for Dave himself, I'm not sure that's the way he'd want to be. He can't sit still when someone needs him, you know?
I did eventually get to sleep but I feel like crap today. Ah well.

I can understand this: 12 books is in fact a lot. Still, the better a series is the longer I'd like for it to continue...
Great that you wrote him, and showed appreciation!

Yes. By the end I think he wanted to make sure there would be no possibility of resorting to Dave.

My 4th and 5th graders were on Day 4 of standards based assessments today. So in the afternoon I read aloud from a very "punny" series on geometry, Sir Cumference and the First Round Table and Sir Cumference and the Dragon of Pi. Then I served pie. Happy Pi Day!

I read Remnant today. Loved it. It probably appealed to the fanfic lover/writer in me, putting characters from different universes together. I hope there will be another meeting for the guys.

My 5th grader had pie for Pi day yesterday as well. She also had SOL (Standards of Learning) tests this week (writing). :)

Loved it too. What a sweet and funny (with a dose of gruesome) story.

I'm midway through Caesar's Fall, the third book in Dorien Grey's Elliott Smith and John series. And once again, Elliott is driving me crazy with his rationalized procrastinations! Can't imagine why this grates so much. Well, it's an irritating plot device, and oh yeah, pot-kettle. ; )

Thanks Colette. I'm really enjoying the book which I borrowed from the library yesterday. The humour rather reminds me of Hitchhiker's guide to the Galaxy.

Uh-oh. I just started reading the last Brandstetter today and reading everyone's comments on it makes me dread the end even more than I did before. *gulp*

So nice of you to write him, Murphy. I wish I could, too.

It's just hard to say goodbye after all this time.
For now, I'm comforting myself by reading Fadeout. It seems to be working too.

I really like Lewis and Max, the main characters, and I also liked that there are some realistically-portrayed girls in the book, as well. The trepidations of starting a relationship and the miscommunications etc. were also done very well, without too much angst (I'm not keen on over-angst). I think it's excellent!
I was also pleased to see a good very English term which one doesn't often see in books: faffing about. It isn't a euphemism; it means spending your time doing a lot of things that are not important instead of the thing that you should be doing.

I'm looking forward to it. I've grown to really like that series, although I'm partway through three other books and hope to finish them first, Diversion, Summoner's Dirge, and The Bridge On The River Wye. Plus Mnevermind 2 Forget Me Not... (So many books!)

Anne, so glad you enjoyed Backtrack. It's on my wish list right now. Maybe when I can afford to get the print editions of Dave's books I'll get that one too!
I got up yesterday and started sorting through piles and stacks of books. It was the right mood because I have boxes and boxes sitting there waiting to go to the second hand store after family and friends get through picking over everything.

So many series so little time. I am starting to see the appeal of a stand alone.

I'm doing the book sort too. I have several boxes in the garage waiting for me to fill them up with donated books. I normally take them to the library. They will shelve what they want and do a giant library sale twice a year for those they don't need.

Ah. That makes sense. I'm kind of glad they have their own series, but I was expecting just Ty and Zane. I don't mind a spin off series, but if I come back to a main ship, I want to sail it. Well I'm still reading. It's my fault for not keeping up. :)
I'm reading Sense of Place, Thomas Elkin 3, and enjoying it a lot. This is such a good series for me, much more than a May-December romance. The MCs are complex individuals. I love their thoughts on and discussions of their work, and the way the titles use architectural concepts to spotlight an emotional theme.

Me too, but I didn't have that much time yesterday...

My new rule of not buying the next book until I've read the previous one is encouraging me to read books that have been hanging around on my TBR list for months. It means I've had a streak of really good books too.

Wonderful. I'm really looking forward to this one, but I'm still in the middle of Brandstetter #12 A Country of Old Men. I intend to use Backtrack as a comfort read after being forced to say goodbye to Dave Brandstetter. :-)

I'm really looking forward to the sequel too, because I loved Pressure Head. The sequel is called Relief Valve and is due on 25 March.

Beat me to it. I was just about to impart that pearl of wisdom. I'm really looking forward to it, so much so that I'll probably bump it up my to read list.

Oh I will read the book I missed (7) and the last one (9). Once I like an author I like I tend to read everything I see by him or her--even if it's only "like" and not "love" for me. I also like to finish a series. I usually want to know what happens even if the story becomes weaker. In this case I need to know if (view spoiler)
I'll pass on Sidewinder if it is primarily erotica. I like character driven stories with a nice amount of action and slow building relationships with extra UST. One of my problems with the beta couple in B&C was I had skipped a book and my thoughts when I first read about them together was "Oh, two people I don't know having sex. That's nice. I guess."
I had some other thoughts as I read B&C, but it wasn't a bad book --just not one I enjoyed as much as the earlier books. I have to say this too: (view spoiler) . But it was a fun read all the same.

I could rant, but I'll just say I agree with you. ;-) It seemed to me the author is tired of writing Ty and Zane and is ready to move on with Nick and Kelly's series. I wish she would have wrapped up this series instead of letting Nick take over... It just didn't make sense to me.

Shock & Awe was merely an out for you intro to the new couple, the next book is much longer (and hopefully plottier) and after book 9 of Cut & Run, we'll still see Ty & Zane as guests in the Sidewinder series, once in a while
Touch & Geaux is my favourite, even if I want to slap pretty much everyone at some point :p

I thought having the (view spoiler) . I'm not sure where that leaves the Sidewinder series and not sure that I care. :(

I don't know if this will help, or have you run away screaming, but according to Abi, you should consider ALL her books, no matter the genre/era to be the same 'verse, anyone can pop in, if she gets the urge to write it

Reading or listening? I really loved the audio version! :)

I've got both the ebook and the audio. I haven't decided which I'll get to first, but it'll likely be the audio the way things are going. Can't wait!

We have both as well, but apparently it was boyfriend who bought the ebook, so the ebook is currently out of the country :p
That's one easy way to make a decision

Hi, Jordan! I hope you feel better.
Personally I found something KC said - or better, KC's friend - quite encouraging, see here message 6
