Hi, Jordan! I hope you feel better.

Personally I found something KC said - or better, KC's friend - quite encouraging, see here message 6

I saw it coming though. And I don't see how he'd stay in retirement otherwise. I'd like to think positive, but for Dave himself, I'm not sure that's the way he'd want to be. He can't sit still when someone needs him, you know?

I did eventually get to sleep but I feel like crap today. Ah well.

I can understand this: 12 books is in fact a lot. Still, the better a series is the longer I'd like for it to continue...

Great that you wrote him, and showed appreciation!

My 4th and 5th graders were on Day 4 of standards based assessments today. So in the afternoon I read aloud from a very "punny" series on geometry, Sir Cumference and the First Round Table and Sir Cumference and the Dragon of Pi. Then I served pie. Happy Pi Day!

I'm midway through Caesar's Fall, the third book in Dorien Grey's Elliott Smith and John series. And once again, Elliott is driving me crazy with his rationalized procrastinations! Can't imagine why this grates so much. Well, it's an irritating plot device, and oh yeah, pot-kettle. ; )

Thanks Colette. I'm really enjoying the book which I borrowed from the library yesterday. The humour rather reminds me of Hitchhiker's guide to the Galaxy.

HJ | 3603 comments I've just finished Not Just Friends by Jay Northcote, which I really enjoyed. I think she really captured what the first term at an English university is like these days, with the students focussing rather more on drinking, worrying about money, oh and relationships, rather than their studies! The difficulties they have learning to make their own meals and share accommodation are also well portrayed.

I really like Lewis and Max, the main characters, and I also liked that there are some realistically-portrayed girls in the book, as well. The trepidations of starting a relationship and the miscommunications etc. were also done very well, without too much angst (I'm not keen on over-angst). I think it's excellent!

I was also pleased to see a good very English term which one doesn't often see in books: faffing about. It isn't a euphemism; it means spending your time doing a lot of things that are not important instead of the thing that you should be doing.

I'm looking forward to it. I've grown to really like that series, although I'm partway through three other books and hope to finish them first, Diversion, Summoner's Dirge, and The Bridge On The River Wye. Plus Mnevermind 2 Forget Me Not... (So many books!)

I got up yesterday and started sorting through piles and stacks of books. It was the right mood because I have boxes and boxes sitting there waiting to go to the second hand store after family and friends get through picking over everything.

message 3773: by Feral (new)

Feral | 237 comments I started Ball & Chain because it is a BOM in another GR group. I had read earlier books in the series and liked them, but I get the feeling I missed some books. There are two new characters I don't remember who seem important and I feel a little lost.

So many series so little time. I am starting to see the appeal of a stand alone.

I'm doing the book sort too. I have several boxes in the garage waiting for me to fill them up with donated books. I normally take them to the library. They will shelve what they want and do a giant library sale twice a year for those they don't need.

Ah. That makes sense. I'm kind of glad they have their own series, but I was expecting just Ty and Zane. I don't mind a spin off series, but if I come back to a main ship, I want to sail it. Well I'm still reading. It's my fault for not keeping up. :)

I'm reading Sense of Place, Thomas Elkin 3, and enjoying it a lot. This is such a good series for me, much more than a May-December romance. The MCs are complex individuals. I love their thoughts on and discussions of their work, and the way the titles use architectural concepts to spotlight an emotional theme.

Ije the Devourer of Books | 1994 comments I have Thomas Elkin 2 and 3 in my to read pile so it is good to know that I have something to look forward to. At the moment I am reading Goldenboy which is the second book in Michael Nava's series about Henry Rios. I am enjoying it much more than the first book probably because I am more familiar with the main character.

Oh I will read the book I missed (7) and the last one (9). Once I like an author I like I tend to read everything I see by him or her--even if it's only "like" and not "love" for me. I also like to finish a series. I usually want to know what happens even if the story becomes weaker. In this case I need to know if (view spoiler)

I'll pass on Sidewinder if it is primarily erotica. I like character driven stories with a nice amount of action and slow building relationships with extra UST. One of my problems with the beta couple in B&C was I had skipped a book and my thoughts when I first read about them together was "Oh, two people I don't know having sex. That's nice. I guess."

I had some other thoughts as I read B&C, but it wasn't a bad book --just not one I enjoyed as much as the earlier books. I have to say this too: (view spoiler). But it was a fun read all the same.

I could rant, but I'll just say I agree with you. ;-) It seemed to me the author is tired of writing Ty and Zane and is ready to move on with Nick and Kelly's series. I wish she would have wrapped up this series instead of letting Nick take over... It just didn't make sense to me.

Shock & Awe was merely an out for you intro to the new couple, the next book is much longer (and hopefully plottier) and after book 9 of Cut & Run, we'll still see Ty & Zane as guests in the Sidewinder series, once in a while
