What Are you Reading?

My grandma wasn't crazy, but she was pretty funny. You never knew what would come out of her mouth. She was very "honest." ;-)

Because I just finished L. A. Boneyard and it was amazing... and I so want to read L. A. Bytes but I ca..."
Oh The Lodestar of Ys is amazing. I'm not really a much of a fantasy reader but I got the same feeling with LoY as I got with The Captive Prince. I amazed by them. I only wish LoY had been longer.

If you liked LoY you need to read Reawakening. It was fantastic.

Thank you for the rec. It looks like every other reader thinks like you: basically I saw only 5 stars ratings. Another book to add to the pile... *deep sigh*

Well, it just came out so it doesn't have a lot of ratings yet. I usually don't trust early reviews but this book popped up in my feed when I happened to be looking for something "different" so I decided to give it a try. Glad I did!

I feel with you, Antonella. I downloaded a sample and it really made me wish to read it, so it will probably hit my Kindle not too far in the future...*shares your sigh*

I started reading it yesterday and i love it so far.

Glad you like it KC. It's the mother of all slow build romances, but IMHO there's not enough conversation between heroes in most books. It's conversation and learning about each other that builds a relationship, regardless of what goes on in bed.

It is well written and quite realistic, just towards the end I got some troubles believing it could go like this in real life.
BTW my praise is more worth because I usually avoid m/m/m, not on principle, but because it is seldom well made. In contrast her story was really good also from this point of view.
So what are you waiting, go and download it!

I have downloaded that one. Glad to hear you liked it!

I liked it but yes, it's very slow building. I started to run out of patience with it, but that is just me. ;-)

I was intending to re-read the other three before reading it. Do you think I should, to get the most out of it? I'm wondering if it's necessary because Spring sounds more stand-alone from what I've read (avoiding spoilers).

I didn't re-read but it has't been too long since I read Something Like Autumn. It seems to be a stand alone. I am almost 25% through and so far the only character from previous books we've met is Michelle (Jase's sister). I know we are supposed to see Ben and Tim, though. Maybe it will be a side story? I haven't read any spoilers so I'm not sure.
I started to read Memorizing You by Dan Skinner yesterday. I'm only 20% through, but it's very promising — I like it a lot. I think KC recommended this to me a while ago. If so, I want to thank you already! :-)

I'm glad you like it. It's a book that stayed with me. I loved it (with moments when i hated things inside it, it's not an easy book to read at times) and i thought it was beautiful. Maybe we can talk about it when you finish it? :-)

I would really like that (to talk about it when I'm finished). The writing style reminds me of some other authors I like to read... maybe Jay Bell or J.H. Trumble or even Luke Hartwell (but gentler, sweeter version)?

I haven't read Bell or Hartwell yet, but i just finished Trumble a few days ago, so compared to that, yes, i agree, the writing style here is gentler and perhaps more...lyrical almost. And i think it fits in well with the MCs' emotions, their innocence. I like it when the writing style reflects, intensely sometimes, the mood of the characters and what they are going through. I thought Trumble did that really well too, taking into consideration the background to that story, it makes one feel so much.

I agree. Slow build romances are great (I loved The Apothecary's Garden), it's really all about keeping one's interest going, and so far i'm looking forward to their conversations. And they seem so natural, it's refreshing really.

I tried a sample after reading Memorizing You, but it didn't work for me then. I might try it again at some point. Do you remember what you liked or didn't like about it?

No, I'm sorry. That's why I started to put up reviews especially of the books I don't like very much or I don't like at all. If i give 5 stars I'm sure I'll remember the book ;-).

Thanks Valerie!

I just finished Something like Spring and loved it. It was a late night for me, I did not want to stop reading. I liked that the original characters were included. It was good to re-visit them. The whole series is very good. Even with the 4 seasons gone, I hope that he will continue with "Something like ....." ?.:) It does not need to be a season.

Yes, his note at the end was nice. It will be fun to see which direction he takes the series.

I started reading two series recently mentioned:
Shadow of the Templar — I read
The Morning Star so far.
Jordan L. Hawk's SPECTR series. Don't know how I missed this one. It's "right up my alley" and I've enjoyed the Widdershins books. I've read Hunter of Demons, Master of Ghouls, Reaper of Souls, and I'm midway through Eater of Lives.
Thanks for the recommendations!

Do remember to check the website for short stories which flesh out the characters' backgrounds, and especially the lacunae which are extra NSFW bits which could have been included in the books. http://mchandler.org/sott/

Useful bit of information! Thank you, dear Helena!

I prefer her original site, where you can also find art from both herself and fans :D (Gallery)

And, read the Lacunae after reading the books, they contain the occational spoiler

Thank you for the link, Antonella. I haven't read The Definitive Albert J. Sterne yet.

A friend of mine* wrote that it is light years away from the standard m-m romance, it is true. Don't expect plain romance, but there is a significant relationship developing in the course of the story. It is a thick book but you read it in a short time because it is so gripping.

JCP published today an excerpt. Warning: I don't know if this link will work forever, just go to http://jcpbooks.com/

Thanks Idamus! That's the site which I used to have bookmarked and mislaid. For the lacunae she's pretty good at identifying where they fit in, and for the other stuff whether there are spoilers and if so what for.

Thanks for the reminder. I checked out that page after reading Morning Star, working around any spoilers for the next books.

My friends from Pros fandom will be excited to hear that I'm just about to begin reading Kate MacLean's first original M/M novel. I've been after her practically as long as I've known her to get her to try her hand at original fiction, so we shall see what we shall see. I'm very excited though. Such a fine writer and a distinct and original voice.

I can't find this - what is it called? or do you have ARC?

It won't surprise you to know that I'm pretty interested to hear this!

Me too, that's why I haven't downloaded yet! I'm supposed to work and then I'll go eat with friends like every friday. I'll try not to come back earlier than planned just because I want to read ;-).

It was wonderful! Saying no more so I don't spoil it, but you will not be disappointed.

That sounds southern alright. And also sounds exactly like what one of my friends has said who's from the south. We won't mention his crazy grandmother shooting the neighbor's cats off her car with a squirrel gun. ;-)
