Yep, in some parts of Germany too. :-) Where I live we have the 31 October as a holiday for Martin Luther nailing 95 pumkins on the church doors in Wittenberg. ;-)

I mean, I knew about the 95 pumpkins ;-), but not that this was celebrated in Germany.

Heh. :-)
Heh. :-)

This was really good. I love Harper's stories!
Lady*M, I finally bought The Elegant Corpse the last time I bought a bunch of books. It's been on my wish list for ages. I still haven't gotten around to reading it yet though. But I'm glad to know its on your favorites!
Caroline, don't you just LOVE Vic? Best character ever. And I still love the short where he meets Jacob for the first time, makes a huge mess with food products and Jacob still falls in love with him on the spot. If only that could happen in real life to boring people like me. Lol.

Same here. I had a lovely time yesterday reading this story. Not sure lovely is exactly the right word here... lovely-spooky maybe :-)

On this note, Amazon is now doing a price match option, whereby if you buy the print book, you can get the ebook at a reduced price. Publishers have to opt into it, but I've gone ahead and opted in a number of cases (the AE books). I don't know how that will work across the board, but I'm always willing to experiment.

I think this is one of the pleasures of audio. You are forced to slow down and really consider the words.

It will entirely depend on how busy the servants are. If the house is short staffed or the servants are preoccupied...such things can easily go unnoticed. In fact, ask any employer. The most common complaint is that employees do NOT notice what should be plain to the eye.
And it would be no different back in the day. :-)

That's a really good point. I think if there were a servant looking to cause trouble... But the regular servants were over worked. And laundry was the single largest household task back when it was manual.

As much book buying as I've done at Amazon in the last however long, when I did the book match option, only 3 books came up. I mostly ordered non-fiction craft and history books from Amazon and did my fiction buying locally.
Now with e-books I buy mostly craft, history books, and big 5 publishers from Amazon. I'll buy from publishers or Smashwords for Independent publishers and self-published.

Well Love is perhaps a fairly strong word for someone who is after all a fictional character but I am growing increasingly fond of Victor especially when he is being clueless. Where do I find this short and what is it called - it sounds fun.

I'm always recommending it. It's excellent!

I do when their price is best. I never buy from them enough to use my so-called earned discount. SW is hit or miss for me. AMZ, if I really want something and their price is best, more likely B&N. Mostly I buy direct from publisher.

For m/m I mostly buy direct from the publishers. For non-fiction and graphic novels and paperbacks i tend to buy from AMZ.

I have bought some things from ARE. I don't like their website much, so I avoid it if I can find the book elsewhere. But if that's where the book is I want, I'll buy it there.
Browsing their books is painfully difficult. So is Smashwords, really. But when I'm there I have an idea of what I'm looking for.

It is exciting but nerve wracking at the same time. To celebrate I am having my own mini Fanyon Fest and reading

Fairyland: A Memoir of My Father

Oh are YOU in for a treat!

All the best! Have a rest, and enjoy the Josh-love. CUTYS is very sweet, I think.

It can be used in pretty much any situation, but I recommend it when you need a good laugh and some sentimental tears. Great, great stuff.

Ooh! I bought this last week and I am looking forward to getting into it soon. Glad to hear it's a favourite!

And a very happy Halloween it was. I began reading it last night while trading off answering the door with one daughter (Ramona Flowers) and her friends. Watching "The Horror of Dracula" and listening to clips of what the fox really says (perfect Halloween soundtrack): http://www.popsci.com/science/article...
Our tango visitors and my husband went dancing later, but there was big event at my school this week and I needed downtime. When everyone left I got to savor ''Once Upon A Haunted Moor'' and enjoy some shivers. : )

Caroline, Psycop.com should have the freebie short stories listed. The longer Psycop shorts can be found listed here and purchased on her site or through Amazon. If I recall, that particular one was a freebie. I'll have to check.

I enjoyed Widdershins and the sequel Threshold quite a bit. I'm generally not a fan of m/m historicals. I just can't suspend disbelief enough to trust the HEA. But historical + magic somehow works for me. At least it has for Widdershins and The Magpie Lord. May need to seek out more similar stories to see if that holds true beyond these two authors. ;)

Could be. The POV hero in Widdershins worries a lot about being exposed, but even though homosexuality is very much Not OK socially, I still buy into the idea that these guys can make a happy life for themselves. Maybe, since they are able to succeed against some very nasty supernatural stuff, I trust that they can survive human prejudice. Which isn't terribly logical. They're two totally different kinds of fights.

Since the 1st November you can buy the sequel of Butterfly Hunter, that is Of Dreams and Ceremonies, on the Manifold Press site.
And I've just discovered the wonderful review A.B. Gayle wrote for The Definitive Albert J. Sterne. It is an excellent book. I suppose people hesitate to read it because of its length, but you'll read it in a moment because it is so gripping.

Me too. I've got it on paper since the UK Meet.

Thanks Jordan - there's a number of free shorts on there.
I read Willa Okati's
In the Key Of last week, and liked it, but not as much as I liked the other two books by her that I've read (A Beautiful Disaster and Open Cover Before Striking). She certainly writes quirky characters. In this surprisingly very sweet story, I had trouble following which character was speaking, even during the character-attributed cyber text... maybe I was overtired... : }

I also enjoyed KJ's The Caldwell Ghost and Butterflies. More Robert and Feximal tales, please? (gentle nudge) : )

Nice that it's an American historical for a change.

I read those two also (earlier this year) and agree with you. Very enjoyable.

I totally third this recommendation, they are great, and the author is finishing book 3 as we speak, which I'm really excited about. I also really like her contemporary paranormal SPECTR series starting with Hunter of Demons, and there's a good standalone, Hainted. You may gather that I like this author a lot. :)

Thank you, delighted to hear it! I loved writing those, and there will be more for definite. I have a longer story planning itself in my head, and I'm tempted to do a Christmas story...for which I have literally just this second had a really good idea. Ooh.

I enjoyed these too. We really need more stories about these guys, KJ :-)

A Christmas story and a longer story would be fabulous. Something to look forward to. :)

I just picked these up and everyone seems to have really enjoyed them. :)
I'm in the middle of the second story of the three that make up Zombie Boyz and they are fun, humorous, gross, funNY and hot. *thumbs up*
I've been reading First to Kill by Andrew Peterson. Peterson has certainly done his research, and the book isn't as flat as a lot of the men's adventure genre, and that's about as much as I can say for it.
And I've been reading a lot of Publisher's Weekly including some interesting articles on reader subscription services. https://www.oysterbooks.com/
A lot of people think subscription services -- like Netflix or Amazon Prime -- are the future of book buying. I'm not so sure. I still like to OWN. I still buy CDs, DVDs, books in hard cover. Yes, I do subscribe to a number of entertainment services, and I do stream/rent a lot of products. But I still like to own and I do continue to buy hundreds of dollars of books, music, movies a year.
Any thoughts?

I definitely like to own, since I have hoarder tendencies (;)) but also because I like to be able to re-read or re-watch or re-listen to things whenever the fancy takes me.
And probably because I am old fashioned...
I do love libraries though, they are very important cultural institutions, and I used them a lot when the kids were small and money scarce, so I am not against borrowing or streaming, it is just not what I genereally do myself.
Ah. I think it is vital to support libraries. Not least because libraries create a controlled and authorized method of sharing. The line between sharing and piracy is gossamer thin. But yet it is vital.
