Perfect. I went today to get those first chapters and saw they were missing. Happily I didn't delete all the rest of them as I started to do! :-D

I've read a lot of ho-hum things lately and I was so ready to read a knockout and then one appeared. Voila! And there's new KJ Charles to start today! Woohoo!

Downloaded Slippery Creatures immediately and started reading. Ony to discover that the day has only so many hours... bah. Will pick it up again tonight. :-)

I know! I got in a few pages last night, but yeah, the days aren't long enough to read as much as I would like!
Starting Slippery Creatures right now. I've been saving it, but have a half hour before I prep my mother's dinner, then watch an episode of some series with my husband (just finished Season 1 of Broadchurch, not sure whether we'll go on with Season 2 right now or take a break and try Upload), then back to reading... :)

We chose Upload. I might go back to Broadchurch, but am not quite ready for the painful direction of the plot. I am curious as to whether the earlier failed case is somehow solved...
And I finished Slippery Creatures this morning. K.J. Charles is so good at these historicals. I'm looking forward to the rest of the trilogy.

Isn't it? I finished it this morning and I'm still riding the high. Loved it!

I can relate to this. I have difficulties starting to read anything else than my absolute favorite authors—authors that I can trust 100% to make me feel really good about reading their book. Somehow it's like having an old friend with me during these weird times. Josh Lanyon, Dal Maclean and Ginn Hale have been my trusted companions these last weeks. :-)

Yes and No: Consent in sex scenes
She also breaks down a few of her scenes as examples (from Slippery Creatures, Band Sinister and An Unnatural Vice).

Yay! I’m really happy you’re enjoying The Long Call! And yes, I believe it was Brenda who had brought up the autism.

Yes, that was me! I'm so glad you're enjoying it! And yes, I recognized so much of myself and other autistics that I know, in Matthew, and that is such a rare gift to see it portrayed so realistically and skillfully.
And to see him be loved and be respected for who he is by his partner, rather than have the book be about him 'learning to be more "normal" so he can be loved' (which is the common trope used for autistic-coded characters). That was just such a powerful message for me. <3
Not MM and certainly not new, but I am reading The Complete Robot, and really enjoying it! It's all of his robot stories in one book. I'm sad though because this is out of print and not in ebook format so I can't easily recommend it to others.
But I love how simple and delightful these stories are so far. There are 31, and I've determined that I will read one a day for the month. :-D

The Complete Robot is available on the Internet Archive. You need to be a member to "take out" books, but membership is free; you only need to give them an email address.

OMG! Sam, thank you so much for telling me about this library. My plan when I retired was to re-read all of the 300-400 books in my personal library. I used to re-read many of them every couple years or so, but I haven't done much re-reading in the past 20 years.
I have paperback books in my collection that I have owned for 30-40 years. And now that I'm retired, it turns out I can't read the teeny tiny print which didn't bother me in my thirties. These are authors such as Alistair MacLean, Rex Stout, Andre Norton, and yes, even Isaac Asimov. Some have been available in my library, but many were not. A few are available to purchase as ebooks, but not cheaply, and dammit I own them already!
I checked and there are many ebooks available from these authors. Hey, one was even uploaded by the Boston Public Library (Hi Jordan!). I am so happy. Thank you again, Sam!
Oops, one downside: My TBR pile just got a LOT bigger! LOL
Hi!
Yep, it’s an awesome thing, though there’s always a downside... toomanytbr books... is that a downside? Maybe not!
I hadn’t even thought to look here for my book.

Wow! Thank you so much for telling us about the Internet Archive.
Not that I need 4,393,287 books to freely read and download or to borrow ;-).

From Wiki: Library Genesis (Libgen) is a file-sharing website for scholarly journal articles, academic and general-interest books, images, comics, and magazines. In part, the site enables free access to content that is otherwise paywalled or not digitized elsewhere.

I absolutely loved this book! It was my first one by this author, I think -- I am a little confused about that. I thought I had tried another book in the past and did not make it past the first few chapters, but I may have her confused with another author. But this one was a non-stop ride. I was blown away.
I realized I just accidentally plagiarized Alison with my first line in this post. Oh well. I guess we can both "absolutely love" it.

I know. Isn't this author fantastic? Also, it took me awhile to try him, but I'm now huge into Gregory Ashe.

Kids in the Hall did a Dr Seuss Bible on their show. It was pretty cool. I adore Kids in the Hall. Are you guys familiar? They have a gay sensibility though most of the group is straight; they do fun, non-characatured females played by the boys. Very funny; offered by Loren Michaels.

Glad you loved it, Clary! Fortunately, KJC love isn't copyrighted. :) If you're just starting out, you are in for a treat. Enjoy!

I remember when Kids in the Hall first came out and it was so controversial. 1989! I haven't watched it since then, so I don't remember much! I did just look it up and there's to be a reboot.
Books 1 & 2 of Elle Keaton's Hamarsson and Dempsey series. Set on one of the San Juan islands in the Pacific NW, county sheriff and retiring/retired Seattle homicide detective. Very slow burn and mainly off-screen. Complicated family backgrounds, small town (island) atmosphere, well-drawn secondary characters, and a dog. :) Engaging opening books for this detective series.
Unfortunate cover art... (I could see this model as Hamarsson, but what's with the pose?)
Conspiracy Theory
Long Shadow

Also I reread/listened to the audiobooks of Gregory Ashe's Hazard and Somerset series books 1-6 (six was really, really hard to hear read aloud) and Union of Swords 1-3 (book one is also really hard to hear), all between March 1 and June 6... and read all of the series shorts... before reading book 4. Craziness. :)
Thanks for the recs, Karen! Conspiracy Theory looks really good! Might even make a good BOM title for us!

Sounds great! :)

Thank you for the rec. It's a verse novel!

Yes! It’s written in free verse/form, which works perfectly here.
