What Are you Reading?
I thought about doing that too, but you're right. It is way too easy to over think shelves and then you end up with too many! I've already got enough to keep me busy. I certainly don't need more!

i'de like to read about a possessive alpha, dominant guy with a cute spoiled partner , but no BDSM please (i find that dreadful!) , i like my heroes sensual & caring :)
thank you so much :)

My holiday read was Michael Crawshaw’s To Make a Killing – a thriller set in the square mile (the City of London) where bankers are getting bumped off one by one. I couldn’t put it down once I’d started. Crawshaw worked in the City and actually managed to make me feel sympathy for the main character – a banker!
I kept casting aside my planned reading to take in some unexpected releases Unhinge the Universe and The Haunted Heart. Both unmissable. I have been managing not to rush through HH as I’m trying to make it last a bit longer…
Apart from WO my poets of the summer have been Peter Bland with Ports of Call – an New Zealand poet. Paul Dehn was another chance find and seems to have had a fascinating life. If you google ‘gay godfather of James Bond’ you’ll see what I mean. But better still read his poem ‘At the Dark hour’.
The novels were Philippe Claude’s Grey Souls and Alison Moore’s The Lighthouse. I still have Brat Farrar to re-read and Fadeout.

A lot of good things could be said, but I want to address just one aspect here: The Scary. Whole herds of writers try it, but how often does it work on me. Not slice and dice, but spooky/scary. Shirley Jackson had it. Josh has it, too. I am so impressed even as I'm having a ball. Thank you, Josh. Aren't you something?

Oh and I LOVED it! The series keeps getting better and better!
And WTF with Crash and Red? I want more of those two.. sidebar book maybe? Novella? Flash fic is not gonna cut it here.

She said somewhere she'll write their own book - a novella, I think.
I'm currently reading The London Falling by Paul Cornell. I'm over one third in and it's the best mix of mystery and paranormal I've read in a long time. The great thing is that the cops, who have suddenly discovered the existance of supernatural, are using regular police methods to try and solve the case.

That book looks awesome! Looking forward to hearing what you think. :-D
I just finished the free LHNB story The Lion and the Crow. It was very good novella, and recommended to those who like m/m historicals (especially if you like ones set in medieval times.)

I am in the middle of Spook Squad too, it is so good, I love being inside Vic's head. And Iblove the fact that the book are full length so she gets the time to devlop the story fully.

Thanks for spotlighting this book. I read the excerpt and couldn't stop. A great take on Victorian paranormal. I've been a bit off Victorian, but I'm totally looking forward to the sequel. Loved the MCs and Merrick.

I need to reactivate my PayPal account. I think I was boycotting them over something or other.

Heh, I know what you mean. I finished it on Tuesday, and yesterday my reading was only catching up on some blog posts. I didn't feel ready for more fiction right away! :D

My mind is pretty much drawing blank here (your wish is very specific), but you mentioned earlier that you like stories with straight guys falling for their friends. I was wondering if you've read Tere Micheals' Faith & Fidelity. That was amongst the first m/m books I read and I liked it a lot. I found those guys quite real and caring.
ETA: How did you like Last Line?

I know what you mean! I've been trying to get back into Dave Brandstetter's head after being inVic's, and it's not easy!
I'm taking The Wraiths of Will and Pleasure with me today, which is the first book in the second Wraeththu trilogy. Lets see how I do. I also just found out that the next Infected book by Andrea Speed came out in June. Where the heck was I?!?! I'll be reading that ASAP.

I am not able to dredge up something that fits your wishes either, but have you tried the m/m romance group here on Goodreads? There are many more people there for one, and there are also a lot of different threads where you might seek and perhaps find :)

Ooo, this sounds interesting!

Still can't get over the fact circus tents were once waterproofed with a mix of paraffin and gasoline. What genius dreamed that up?

oh you're the only one that answered :D , well i've read Faith & Fidelity & am gonna read Last Line next , but now i just want to read about someone like Sam Kage from A Matter of Time , thank you so much for your help Johanna :)

I was going to recommend just about anything by Mary Calmes. ;-) Also, you might try With Caution by J.L. Langley.
The folks on this thread in the M/M Romance Group would probably be helpful: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/5...

Thank you, Candice. I love spooky stories, but I have trouble finding the kind of thing I like to read, so this was a challenge for me. I basically focused on what would scare the hell out of me.
I think I mentioned when I was writing this that I couldn't work on it late at night when I was alone. That's the power of imagination for you. If I got even a little of that into the story, I feel like I did well.

thank you Josh <3

It was scary. I was reading it while eating a falafel in Central London baking sunshine, which is hardly ghost-friendly, and I still got a serious case of the screaming ab-dabs.*

This sounds like a RUMA (right up my alley) novel. But . . . the Kindle edition costs eleven flippin' dollars! A brand new hardcover ed. at Amazon is two or three bucks less. WTF?

Since I've only read some of them, I don't know if this list will work for you but it might be a place to start:
http://www.goodreads.com/list/show/47...
And Timing and it's sequel After the Sunset should fit the bill nicely.

I'm stealing the acronym, just so you know.
Are you sure you saw the right price? I'm looking at it now and the price for Kindle is 8.39$.
Edit: Oh, that's U.K. edition. A three dollar (and change) difference between USA and U.K. editions?! We live in a mad world.

Thank you for your help Marge :) , i am reading
Knowing Caleb , as soon as i finish it i'll begin Timing , thank you so much again :)

Hm.
The characters must both be smart and capable (each in their own way) and emotionally mature. This is a non-negotiable for me. They can make mistakes -- terrible mistakes -- but those mistakes must be realistic and must be balanced (in the view of any reasonably experienced grown up) by the strengths and positives of the characters.
I cannot bear characters who act like hysterical teenagers, I cannot bear stupidity (except in the reasonable and believable spurts that we all display stupidity), I cannot handle book people making plot-friendly decisions that no real person would make.
I am both a really lenient reader and a really tough reader. ;-)

GhosTV is the novel previous to Spook Squad, right? Are there a lot of short stories or flash fics in between? Because I feel like I missed something crucial in Vic and Crash's relationship.
When did they get to be such friends?

Some of it was over time in the novels and some in the flash fiction. There was one story where Vic takes out a shoplifter in Crash's shop.
I have not read all the short fics yet myself, since reading on a monitor is so problematic for me.

This is not even remotely a criticism given that I am loving the book (and am a huge fan of the series). I don't know if I am just forgetful or if I should have been more attentive to the flash fiction.
I just feel like I missed something somewhere.

Well, wha . . .? I just went to the book's GR page again, clicked on the green Online Stores button, clicked on Amazon, and there it was in red: Kindle edition - $10.67 (yup, USD). I also saw a used hardcover for sale at just over $4.00.

I have also put the Brandstetter books on my m/m shelf because I don't want to have too many categories. I have a romance shelf, too, and THAT is the shelf I did not use. Same for Mahu and several othre gay mysteries I've read.
I have been thinking about making a separate "gay" shelf to use for books that have gay protagonists but not romance, but then I start thinking that I'm overthinking this, so I didn't. LOL
