This is a really excellent mystery, that I'd recommend highly for anyone who can stand serial killer of kids.
There's not much gore and a HEA."
That looks really good; thanks!
I just found Gender: Your Guide: A Gender-Friendly Primer on What to Know, What to Say, and What to Do in the New Gender Culture, and I wish I'd known about this last month so we could have added it to our pride book list at the library, but oh well.
I thought I would share it here as it looks like a really great book.

Let us know how you like it, Jordan. If it's good, I'd love to request it for my library. They've bought everything I've requested so far. :)

Thanks, for this reminder. I almost missed it. :)

Oooh, I was going to nominate The Wolf at the Door for our BOM soon, because I’ve not read it and Karen told me it was good. Didn’t realize a new book was coming out so soon. :-)
I probably won’t read the gender book cover to cover, but I’ll skim through it, maybe today? It’s sitting on my desk at work right now. But what little I saw of it the other day was really good.

So, I've skimmed through some of it. It's actually a guide for people who are not transgender/gender queer, to help them be more friendly and accepting of those who are. There's a section that details gender neutral pronouns, how they're used, who uses them, why they're used, the history of some, and other things.
So, it's good, but it's more for others who are not transgender, especially because the introduction is written in second person in some places referring to "you" as someone not trans.
I'd been hoping it might be good for someone who was questioning their gender as well as others, and maybe it is, but the 2nd person language says no.

I started The Masqueraders on the plane to Long Beach back in February, but wasn't in the mood I guess, so I gave up and switched to another book. I got back into it this morning and I'm 50 pages in and it's not working for me.
I've had several people recommend it, aside from Josh, but I'm so confused with the language of the day, and then the two main characters using different names. I have no idea who's who or what the heck they're saying. *sigh* I may have to put it down and come back to it again some day.

Glad to know I'm not the only one! Phew. Now I won't feel so bad setting it aside. I really wanted to like it. The premise seems like it's totally my thing. Oh well.

I think an educational "how to" for gender identity in regards to interacting with other people could be useful for people who want to educate themselves and be respectful. I see a lot of good-natured confusion and bewilderment out there regarding gender identity from cis folks, so maybe this is a good educational resource. It turns out my library already has it, so I'll have a look. My mom has enjoyed learning about gender identity over the years and maybe she'd like it.
I think you’re right. But it will only appeal to those people who are interested in learning more. Hopefully there are a lot of them!
For those interested in books on gender, I found another one!
This one is a nonfiction choose your own gender adventure book. Seriously.

But her gender workbook didn't work for me. As an introverted asexual, I couldn't answer half the quizzes.

Trying to fix my comment above, but it's not fixing. Hopefully this is easier to read:

I think I've finally settled in on No Quick Fix. I'm not sure there's a tie-in to the Marshals universe? It's been a while since I read them.

The SO and I stopped for dinner on the way home from having our taxes done yesterday, and as we were sitting there listening to the music (1960s jazzy French stuff) and I was watching the sunlight on the porch (we were at our favorite little French restaurant) it occurred to me that when I was younger, I thought people who had "nothing to say to each other" over a meal probably didn't have a good relationship.
But though we were both quiet, we were peaceful and smiling at each other--and it occurred to me this is the kind of thing that outsiders (and the inexperienced) might misinterpret.

I'm trying to think back to when I first read it, and I think it possibly was a little confusing--all the dual identities.
But, as you know, it later on became one of my all time favorite books. So maybe another time and another place it might be worth a second try?

Yes!
Honestly, I think much could be solved by everyone on both sides of the equation being patient and courteous and looking at everything from the viewpoint of the other.
Of course, I think that is the answer to 99.9% if society's ills.

If anyone cares, this is book 8 in a mystery series featuring a dog as the main POV, and there are no LGBTQ characters, but it was still enjoyable. Anyway, here's my review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

It's interesting because I've said this very thing about two married coworkers of mine. I see them on the train in the morning and one of them has these big headphones on, and clearly they're not talking to each other. So, I figured things might be going down hill. Don't know why I immediately drew that conclusion, because you're right, that's not necessarily the case.
Except that recently I heard a rumor that they might be getting a divorce, so... who knows?

That's what I'm hoping. I only picked up a copy because you'd recommended it in the first place. But I've had a coworker recommend it since then. And since I own it... I'll hold on to it for awhile and try again. Sometimes it really is about the right time and the right place. :-)
I started reading The Handmaid's Tale years ago and I think only got a few pages into it and put it down because it was boring. But, now my book group has partnered with the local Lyric Opera and we're going to see the opera. So, I decided I needed to read the book before I see the opera, because lord knows I won't understand a thing I'm watching if I don't. lol. I went with the audiobook narrated by Claire Danes, and I have to say, it's not that bad. I'm not sure I'd be able to stick with a print book though. *shrugs*

Well, if they really have nothing to talk about, then yes. That would not be a good sign! For the SO and I...we always have lots to talk about, but we are also comfortable being quiet.

I'm planning on finishing it tomorrow! :-D But probably won't watch the tv show. I've got too many other things going on in my life and am trying not to watch as much tv these days anyway.
It's bad enough I'm going to the opera. I am soooo not a fan of screeching cats. lol. But I do enjoy my book group so we should have fun, regardless of the cats.

Want to support Blind Eye Books? You can do it by pre-ordering your print copy of Ginn Hale's fall release directly from our site. Why does that help? Well, cause we don't have to split the $ with anybody but Ms. Hale, that's why. (Plus you can request to have your copy signed by the woman herself. Neat huh?)

I finished The Handmaid’s Tale today. It was good. The audio was well done and probably the only way I got through it because while it was well written, it wasn’t something I’d choose to read on my own.

Invitation to the Dance by Tamara Allen (this month's book club read) 3 Stars
well written, historically rich; mm romance; shenanigans when journalists go undercover in high society. An active story, but mostly mm romance.
The Doctor's Secret by Heidi Cullinen 3 stars
Well written, gentle mm romance, sweet couple; hospital politics in small town; No mystery or other adventure, medical drama.
A Love Song for the Sad Man in the White Coat by Roe Hovat 4 star
History of a mental breakdown, well written, painful decline at loss of love. So grateful Roe decided to allow the happy ending (hfn). Would have been enriched with more from other mc point of view? But maybe unknowns on that side made it work...
Somewhere Over Lorain Road by Bud Gundy
4 stars
Cold case serial killer of children, being investigated by someone severely impacted by first investigation. Pretty well done, mm romance secondary story. Childhood history of violent homophobic attack.
The Prince and the Program by Aldous Mercer. This is next month's group book read, so I will hold back most comment...4 or 5 stars halfway through...then went more than a little random...Intriguing and very unique and I really want to hear what people think about it.
Murder House by Jordan Castillo Price. 5 star
Psycop the 10th.
I found four of these books through eavesdropping about nominations for the group monthly read...Thanks so much for the recommendations!

I really cannot take harm to children. I'm not even sure why as I don't have any! But that's definitely one of my Do Not Cross lines.
