Ame | 1744 comments Weren't there some talk of Three Men in a Boat earlier? On the topic of Jerome K. Jerome, I recommend The New Utopia, amazing short story written as a critizism on socialism and the ideology that everyone should be equal but for me it is also powerful and cynic telling of facism and dictatorship where free mind and free thinking are the most dangerous tools one can have.

I know so many of you have enjoyed it. So far the audio is pretty good. It's helpful because I'm currently making a lot of buttons for NaNoWriMo in November, so this is a great thing to listen to while making buttons. :-)

Funny. I just finished relistening to it for the 10th time probably. I adore this series and Iggy Toma's narration so I hope you enjoy it. Some find the second one lacking but I think it's more that the first story is so good. Third one in the series is also awesome, Elijah Prince is just adorable.

I've not been listening to audiobooks much lately, so we'll see what happens when I finish this one. I still have several others I've not listened too since I got them a long time ago. lol.

I've finally gotten into the mystery of Object of Desire. OMG. So, yeah, I'm hooked. :-D

Alison | 4756 comments I read Band Sinister and it is glorious! I started last night and finished this morning because I could not part with it. KJ Charles never ceases to amaze me. I am not a re-reader in general, but I'm wondering if I should just start right at the beginning again tonight. This book is a beautiful thing. Definitely one of my top favourite things I've read this year.

What annoys me most about this is that I just don't seem to have the time to sit down with this book for a couple of hours. It's a really long book, which is both a blessing and a very minor curse. lol.

I knew this one would turn around and I'd love it. Or, at least, I was hoping the character could redeem himself, and maybe his friends. :-) He's getting there.

He's getting there is a good description. :-)
And I understand you perfectly in regards to long book being a blessing and a curse. :-D I think this one doesn't lend itself to being read in bits and pieces. It needs longer sittings to really delve into it, yes?

What I love most about Dal is that her characters are such a charming complicated people consisting of both good and bad, foolishness and kindness, selfishness but also with lots of love to give. Just fantastic character writer.

Solid cop thriller/mystery. Narrated by Michael Ferraiuolo. SO GOOD!

WMD | 251 comments Okay...
Finished The Devil Take You Anthology. Loved it, rich well written stories with mm elements. Some creepy, some devil as hero...some a little silly.
Finished Zero Hour, a re-issue, I think, from Jordan Castillo Price. Post apocalypse in which the religion isn't quite what it seems. Loved it, mm romance a strong theme among others.
Finished Pisces Hooks Taurus, Anyta Sunday. A light and easy romance, good story.
Also Nothing More Certain, a short story by R.C. Cooper in her Familiar spirits series. Likable characters, neat magical town...very simple sweet tale.

SamSpayedPI | 596 comments I've been sticking to a Halloween theme this week. Darkling wasn't grabbing me, so after a few pages (I'm sure I'll return to it someday) I switched to The Well which I really enjoyed, and then on to Spindrift which I loved. I'm now moving on to A Frost of Cares, while reading snatches of Shirley Jackson and Something Wicked This Way Comes as the spirits move me [so to speak].

message 14977: by KC (new)

KC | 4897 comments Reading atm:
- Bones - good stories by Kim Fielding and Eli Easton, and I have two more in the anthology, by Jamie Fessenden and B.G. Thomas. So far it's better than the first volume.

- a new-to-me mystery author - Greenwich Killing Time. There's potential, but I haven't decided yet...

- The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. The first half was excellent. The second (i'm at 70%) a bit less, but i think it's because i'm not sure how i feel about what's happening. In any case, it's very good.

Zero Hour was really good! I like the original cover better though. I remember having a discussion with JCP about it, that with the print book the cover wrapped all the way around, so you got more cover, than you would have with the ebook. :-) I need to reread that one someday.

message 14980: by KC (new)

KC | 4897 comments I finished The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. It left me...sad, pretty much. Well, that's simplifying it, because there are still lots of thoughts and feelings about the characters and situations, and a sense of helplessness as well. But, I really liked the way the perspective gradually shifts from a limited point of view to understanding events and emotions in the larger context. I thought that was very well done.

Starting Cronin's Key by NR Walker.

I've been meaning to try one of her books for ages, but what really decided me (and this is a commentary on the positives of attending conferences) was chatting with her at dinner one night. I liked her very much--thought she was pleasantly down to earth and had a good sense of humor--and so I thought I'd give this particular series a whirl (MUMMIES). :-D

I read the first in the Cronin's Key series but vampires aren't really my thing so I pace myself (don't tell anyone I just finished writing a vampire Christmas coda for the Advent Calendar). I really really really liked The Weight of it All and the Imago series and Red Dirt Heart.....oh, and Switched.
