It was irritating at first, but when it kept happening--and editors kept quoting different reference books--I realized it was actually a good lesson. :-D

I have been rereading Life Lessons series by Kaje Harper. I read the first two books but I'm keeping the next to until next month just to be able to enjoy it bit longer. It's such a good series and gives me such feel good vibes reading them again. Complicated characters, one that is totally giving more of himself than the other but as long as it makes him happy why complain, it is what life is.
I feel like rereading of all the first books I got acquainted to when I first discovered MM stories. Like Tere Michaels, Faith & Fidelity etc.
I'm also relistening to (for the 100th time probably) Love Lessons by Heidi Cullinan, which is such a comfort read to me, I totally love this story, the characters and the narration.
As you can see I'm quite into the past right now.
Jordan wrote: "Hi guys!Quick question. Have you read any REALLY good queer romance that released this year that you would want to see on a major list? Thanks!"
I really endorse almost all of Allison's list (the one's I wouldnt endorse are just ones I haven't read)
I would add
Where Death Meets the Devil by L. J. Hayward (spy action)
Object of Desire by Dal Maclean (suspense romance)
Darke Accused by Parker Avrile (action/mystery)
Several great series came out with new books this year, but you aren't looking for continuations?
Also, for those who liked The Last Sun, I can recommend A Ferry of Bones & Gold by Hailey Turner. Adventure fantasy, crime fighting special magics, mm love interest. Ancient gods abound...causing their usual mayhem for us human schmucks (even when we are mages). I don't think it would go on my best of the year recommendation list, but I did enjoy.

I've started Cordelia Kingsbridge's Can't Hide from Me, which is very well done--I'm enjoying it a lot--but I was thinking it was part of her Seven of Spades series (it's not) so...there's that. :-D

I mean, yes, it's not exactly logical, but there's something about that movie I love.
What don't you like about it?"
I loved the movie. I just couldn't get through the book. When I gave up on it (on page 88!), they still hadn't even gotten on the freaking train yet!
IIRC, of course.
We should create a goodreads list of books that were much worse than the movies made from them. I vote for Strangers on a Train and A Room with a View.
SamSpayedPI wrote: "We should create a goodreads list of books that were much worse than the movies made from them. I vote for Strangers on a Train and A Room with a View. .."Not a movie, but a TV series. The Expanse (Seasons 1-3) is SO much better than the books. They are long, bloated, slow books with tons of characters and four to six POVs. The series has cut out many of the extra characters and has streamlined the story to be much more interesting.
When I'm being kind, I feel that the authors are trying to tell a long, sweeping space opera where all the moving parts come together in a satisfying crescendo--and indeed they succeeded with this in the first book. When I'm reading the following series 600-page monstrosities, I just think they were getting paid by the word.
I am reading Band Sinister by K.J. Charles. I was lucky enough to get an ARC and I am really enjoying it. She has a lovely way of writing historicals.
Ije the Devourer of Books wrote: "I am reading Band Sinister by K.J. Charles. I was lucky enough to get an ARC and I am really enjoying it. She has a lovely way of writing historicals."OMG I want that! Want! I'm out of the loop for some reason. I had no idea it was coming out.

I dont read many historicals but KJ Charles just has a really great way of writing them.
Right now I am reading The Unleashing by Shelly Laurenston, a campy paranormal romance set in a Norse mythology based world. First of a trilogy. I love her books and look forward to a new one, and somehow an entire trilogy happened before I realized it. Score!

I'm curious about this one. I'm considering reading it while waiting for the final book in the Seven of Spades Series.

Josh, just wanted to mention that the Seven of Spades books need to be read in order because both the main mystery and the characters’ relationships develop gradually.
KC wrote: "Josh, just wanted to mention that the Seven of Spades books need to be read in order because both the main mystery and the characters’ relationships develop gradually."Yep, they're a wonderful example for an actual not-stand-alone, no-cannot-be-read-without-the-others series. :-)

hahahahaha. Okay. Fair enough. I love the movie. The book...I am embarrassed to say Highsmith sort of annoys me.

But despite the respect, I rarely opt to read her.

The Four Feathers.
Jesus God. There is no movie version that is not a million times better than the book.
But then there are the movies that can't begin to touch the books. The Black Stallion, Ordinary People, Girl on the Train, etc. However, that's more common. It's more amazing when the movie is so much better than the book.

That series is on my list to read but my next read is 'Wanted - Bad Boyfriend' by TA Moore. I had dinner with her and Rhys Ford on Wednesday and she's such a delight - both of them are, actually - and the book looks very good. After that I'll dig into these.
I had such dreams of reading a little bit of every author going to GRL, but even just sampling a couple of chapters, I've only made it about a quarter way through. :-/ Granted, there are a LOT of authors attending.

Nope. Stop right there. The Devil Wears Prada movie is a billion times better than the book and the movie could still use some improvement.
I read both of That Alien Feeling books this weekend and it was pleasantry surprising how much I loved them. Fun, cute, adorable and well written and as one who's not much for fantasy genre these were just fantastic. Definitely going on my reread list, both of them. I have to say though that I much preferred the original cover instead of the generic naked guy its now sporting.
Josh wrote: "Jesus God. There is no movie version that is not a million times better than the book. ..."Princess Bride comes very close. The screenplay was written by the author of the book, and produced by him. It is the perfect blending of the book to movie I've ever seen, and the characters really come alive with that cast.
Also Cannery Row, with Deborah Winger and Nick Nolte. It caught the atmosphere of Steinbeck's work perfectly. It was a blending of both Cannery Row and Sweet Thursday, which was a favorite re-read of mine when I was a kid.

So excited!
Just finished Jess Whitecroft’s <3 Less Than Three, a very funny and touching and intelligent rom-com.
Starting Band Sinister now.
I love Fall Break! :)

I've decided to tackle the paperbacks I've bought in the last few years, which I keep separate from the rest of my books. The idea was born also from a glitch in my Kindle: the ebooks sent automatically or manually to the Kindle don't arrive anymore. It could be that it it so full, there are some 1200 books on it. So my other project is to cancel all the one- or two-stars books for which I've written a review.

You have described my own book situation exactly. I think my kindle is going to give up the ghost.

Finished it today and gave 5 stars. :)
Such a lovely historical romance with actual characters with their own goals, wants and desires. Also, the books gives some good examples for real life issues and how they can sensibly be dealt with, for example the prevalent topic of consent.
Ije the Devourer of Books wrote: "You have described my own book situation exactly. I think my kindle is going to give up the ghost."Well, sooner or later we will have to do something about that...
Just started Object of Desire over the weekend. Honestly, if it wasn't for the author, this is a book I would skip, primarily because I'm not into models. lol. So far it's good, so we'll see how it goes. I loved her first, so I'm assuming I'll love this one too. Eventually.
I've finished a couple of days ago Set Free by Anthony Bidulka and I really enjoyed it. It was a pleasant surprise. Its a mystery with lots of plot twists. :)

Oh, I think that would be irritating to me, to watch that happen to a book I'd written. lol. Or, maybe frustrating is the better word. I mean, why aren't we all agreeing on something?! But, yet, it does make sense that everyone reads things in their own way.
