What Are you Reading?

Couldn't agree more! Just started the Paternity one. I'm enjoying these so much!

Yep, it's a keeper. :)
Yep, it's a keeper. :)
I'm in the middle of reading Pretty Pretty Boys and I've now added Riven, Leave Myself Behind and Robby Riverton: Mail Order Bride into my to-read-ASAP list. Thank you for the recommendations, everyone!
Just found out Ben Aaronovitch's latest book, Lies Sleeping is coming out this November! I'm super excited, it looks like we'll be going back to the plot we've had since the very beginning and oh, it just looks really good!

Sounds good!

Wow. This looks great! I wasn't going to buy any MORE books this month--but if I pre-order and can't read it until October, that doesn't count, right? ;-)

And if you preorder now, you save money! ;-)

- Gregory Ashe's Paternity Case - I love these books so much, even as I'm feeling as Karen wrote in her review: "conflicted, yet addicted"; completely! Trying to guess the bad guy/gal atm.
- KJ Charles' The Henchmen of Zenda - seems fun so far.
- Eli Easton's Desperately Seeking Santa - promising to be fun
- Bart Yates' The Brothers Bishop - beautiful writing and characterization, this one needs savoring
- Mr. Monk Goes to the Firehouse - I'm rewatching the TV series, and a friend mentioned that the books are different - they basically pick up where the series ends. So far finding it pretty dry, a bit like reading the script, and the characters stay sort of flat...but maybe it will improve.
Currently reading The Knife of Never Letting Go for my library book group. I think this is our first YA novel in a year and a half. I'm not as thrilled with it so far as I thought I'd be. but maybe it will improve and get more interesting the more I read. I find lately, I've not been reading much, I can't keep my eyes open at night, one page in and I'm gone. lol. But we discuss it in a week, so I'd better find the time!

Yes, I did! LOL

I loved it, I loved the whole Chaos trilogy. But opinions about books are so subjective!

Maybe Josh should do something about this?

I think since they punished her for missing a deadline, Josh pushes her Amazon deadlines out to the last possible moment, just to be on the safe side.

I just talked to Josh about this. The release date is mid-July. But she placed the Amazon pre-order date way in advance just in case she had to push it back. This way, Amazon won't freeze her out of having pre-order sales again.

And I've read the the short story Not Just a Boy, and loved it (4.5 stars). A bit heart-rending, but not totally hopeless.

I just finished The California Dashwoods; I loved it, but it's directly responsible for my only getting four hours of sleep last night, because I couldn't put it down.
Next on the list is Swordspoint.
Now that I've hit the halfway point of The Knife of Never Letting Go, I'm finally gripped by it. Still not as much as I would have preferred, but it's gotten much better, which is good, because I'm going to be reading a lot of it over the next two days.
During my free time at work today I've been reading Moonstruck, Volume One: Magic to Brew, an adorable graphic novel for teens that involves a wide range of queer people, people of color, and body types! I love the artwork too.

I've been thinking of reading this. Glad it is good.

I had to leave work yesterday with only a few pages go to. I'll hopefully finish it today at some point. It's very young though. Even though the characters are a bit older, I think college age maybe, viewing that they seem independent and have jobs. And part of it has a weird advice column. And there's a section that's a children's book mystery playing out at the same time. It happens to be a favorite book of the two main characters. Anyway, it's a little younger than I'd have thought. But still good.

So I'm choosing between Trick Roller or, since I have more than two weeks left on my library loan on that one (and at least another three days until I can request a new purchase), maybe I'll finally get to my KU list; maybe The Innocent.

Swordspoint was not a book I liked much, even though I really enjoy fantasy. Oh well.

Finally finished The Knife of Never Letting Go just now and I have to say, it frustrated me more than anything.
I am now moving on to Lassoing the Sun: A Year in America's National Parks, which I bought my dad for Christmas, and now he's lending it to me because he says it's really good! I've been meaning to get to this one for a couple of months now, so I'm glad I now have time for it.

Sorry to hear about this. So you are not going to read the other two books?
I couldn't wait to get them, after reading The Knife of Never Letting Go.

I don't know. My book group will be discussing it tomorrow night, so we'll see what happens then. I had suggested to them that we could potentially finish the series, since it's only a trilogy. I don't know if they'll take me up on that or not. If they don't, I might not finish it. It was getting good, and then the ending was just more frustration. It didn't help that I wasn't feeling great this weekend, felt exhausted, and just couldn't get enough sleep. lol.

Just found this, sooo wanna read it when it comes out next month: A Study in Honor. Janet Watson and Sara Sherlock are both black lesbians in this sci-fi/mystery. Yep, sign me up!

Oh! What didn't you like about it? Or are you just tired of fantasy in general?

The world building definitely dominates, and it's as much a story of intrigue as romance. But I do remember really, really admiring it.

This is what they say:
"All payments are charged in USD! ... We accept PayPal payments and also credit or debit cards via Stripe for payments, who accept the following: Visa. Master Card."
BUT I know some people have had issues, so a couple of readers send money via Paypal and I just send the rewards directly to them. There aren't too many so it's still feasible.

I didn't really get far enough into Swordspoint it to dislike it; it just wasn't holding my interest so I decided I'd just save it for later. The last three or four fantasy series I started, or attempted to start, were the same (e.g. Point of Hopes), so I think it's probably just me not being in a fantastical mood.
The Innocent was good (in typical Cowboy Gangster mode: torture and kill the bad guys in the name of Jesus, amen) but the second Seven of Spades book was amazing! I usually save my five stars for Josh Lanyon, Ursula K. Le Guin and Dorothy L. Sayers, but Trick Roller got one too.

I have not seen any of his tv programs. I guess I'd better fire up Hulu or some such and break my anti-tv habit a tiny bit.

Aargh! I didn't know, thank you for telling me. Rushing to

I had read and loved American Road Trip

Five Indigenous Speculative Fiction Authors You Should Be Reading, two of the books are LGBT.

Thank you. I'm looking forward to read it, but I should probably do a quick reread of the previous books first.

I've read the first book The Steel Remains and I'm in the middle of the second one. Yesterday I've read 7 hours, only stopping to drink now and then ;-).
It is also thinkable to stop at the first book, which has a sort of ending.
Warning: If you dislike or react strongly to graphic violence this is not for you. It's a very brutal world.

I thought the same, but then I just dove right in anyway. I am looking forward to reading this series all the way through. How is it going to finish?!? :)

I've been interested in that one for ages. I have heard it is very good and very violent.
