I'm in the middle of reading Pretty Pretty Boys and I've now added Riven, Leave Myself Behind and Robby Riverton: Mail Order Bride into my to-read-ASAP list. Thank you for the recommendations, everyone!

Wow. This looks great! I wasn't going to buy any MORE books this month--but if I pre-order and can't read it until October, that doesn't count, right? ;-)

KC | 4897 comments Started several promising books recently:
- Gregory Ashe's Paternity Case - I love these books so much, even as I'm feeling as Karen wrote in her review: "conflicted, yet addicted"; completely! Trying to guess the bad guy/gal atm.

- KJ Charles' The Henchmen of Zenda - seems fun so far.

- Eli Easton's Desperately Seeking Santa - promising to be fun

- Bart Yates' The Brothers Bishop - beautiful writing and characterization, this one needs savoring

- Mr. Monk Goes to the Firehouse - I'm rewatching the TV series, and a friend mentioned that the books are different - they basically pick up where the series ends. So far finding it pretty dry, a bit like reading the script, and the characters stay sort of flat...but maybe it will improve.

Currently reading The Knife of Never Letting Go for my library book group. I think this is our first YA novel in a year and a half. I'm not as thrilled with it so far as I thought I'd be. but maybe it will improve and get more interesting the more I read. I find lately, I've not been reading much, I can't keep my eyes open at night, one page in and I'm gone. lol. But we discuss it in a week, so I'd better find the time!

I think since they punished her for missing a deadline, Josh pushes her Amazon deadlines out to the last possible moment, just to be on the safe side.

I just talked to Josh about this. The release date is mid-July. But she placed the Amazon pre-order date way in advance just in case she had to push it back. This way, Amazon won't freeze her out of having pre-order sales again.

Antonella | 11565 comments I've finally started Object of Desire and it is problematic ;-): it is so gripping that I keep jumping forward!

And I've read the the short story Not Just a Boy, and loved it (4.5 stars). A bit heart-rending, but not totally hopeless.

SamSpayedPI | 596 comments I finally finished Paternity Case (after having completely run out of all four years of available NYT crossword minis, which I was turning to whenever I got bored or frustrated with the book).

I just finished The California Dashwoods; I loved it, but it's directly responsible for my only getting four hours of sleep last night, because I couldn't put it down.

Next on the list is Swordspoint.

I had to leave work yesterday with only a few pages go to. I'll hopefully finish it today at some point. It's very young though. Even though the characters are a bit older, I think college age maybe, viewing that they seem independent and have jobs. And part of it has a weird advice column. And there's a section that's a children's book mystery playing out at the same time. It happens to be a favorite book of the two main characters. Anyway, it's a little younger than I'd have thought. But still good.

SamSpayedPI | 596 comments Hmm; Swordspoint isn't grabbing me either. Maybe I need to take a break from fantasy; I don't seem to be in the mood to appreciate it.

So I'm choosing between Trick Roller or, since I have more than two weeks left on my library loan on that one (and at least another three days until I can request a new purchase), maybe I'll finally get to my KU list; maybe The Innocent.

Finally finished The Knife of Never Letting Go just now and I have to say, it frustrated me more than anything.

I am now moving on to Lassoing the Sun: A Year in America's National Parks, which I bought my dad for Christmas, and now he's lending it to me because he says it's really good! I've been meaning to get to this one for a couple of months now, so I'm glad I now have time for it.

I don't know. My book group will be discussing it tomorrow night, so we'll see what happens then. I had suggested to them that we could potentially finish the series, since it's only a trilogy. I don't know if they'll take me up on that or not. If they don't, I might not finish it. It was getting good, and then the ending was just more frustration. It didn't help that I wasn't feeling great this weekend, felt exhausted, and just couldn't get enough sleep. lol.

This is what they say:
"All payments are charged in USD! ... We accept PayPal payments and also credit or debit cards via Stripe for payments, who accept the following: Visa. Master Card."

BUT I know some people have had issues, so a couple of readers send money via Paypal and I just send the rewards directly to them. There aren't too many so it's still feasible.

message 14590: by SamSpayedPI (last edited Jun 28, 2018 04:01PM) (new)

SamSpayedPI | 596 comments Josh wrote: "Oh! What didn't you like about it? Or are you just tired of fantasy in general?"

I didn't really get far enough into Swordspoint it to dislike it; it just wasn't holding my interest so I decided I'd just save it for later. The last three or four fantasy series I started, or attempted to start, were the same (e.g. Point of Hopes), so I think it's probably just me not being in a fantastical mood.

The Innocent was good (in typical Cowboy Gangster mode: torture and kill the bad guys in the name of Jesus, amen) but the second Seven of Spades book was amazing! I usually save my five stars for Josh Lanyon, Ursula K. Le Guin and Dorothy L. Sayers, but Trick Roller got one too.

I've read the first book The Steel Remains and I'm in the middle of the second one. Yesterday I've read 7 hours, only stopping to drink now and then ;-).

It is also thinkable to stop at the first book, which has a sort of ending.
