Started a nonfic: Families and How to Survive Them, written by John Cleese with his former therapist. It's interesting, and I like the format - John Cleese asking questions and the psychologist explaining; so it's serious, with a bit of humor here and there.

If you look in GoogleBooks for «Transcat #1 The Twenty-Fourth Floor» you can see which kind of comic it is: much less refined than Chalice, but interesting.

Started reading Damage Control by Lynn Van Dorn last night and I like it so far. While randomly browsing through Amazon yesterday, this one caught my eye because I like the simple beauty of the cover photo. I've never read this author before.

If you end up liking Damage Control, I recommend the silly raunchy little prequel story too: Be My Mistake(mostly for all the John Hughes film references ) and she has started a new series with Reunion, mm romance in small Florida town.

I've been reading so many good books lately. Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda and then The Magician Murders which in my opinion is by far the best of the Art of Murder books. So today, feeling sick and completely lacking any energy I went for something light. Which was fine. The story was fine and fluff nice read. But. BUT! Chocolate sauce was at one point used as lube!

That was an image I really did not need with my stomach bug.

I've read some excellent things recently:

--Maggie Stiefvater's Raven Cycle series--the first book is The Raven Boys. Mega-popular YA contemporary fantasy series. I really enjoyed it and it was really entertaining. Plus, an excellent bonus--cool queer main characters.

--Christina Lauren's Autoboyography. A moving queer YA romance about a very religious LDS kid and a non-LDS kid falling in love. This book is set in Utah, where I live, so that made it extra fun.

Let us know how you like it. I read the prequel and enjoyed it. As WMD said, it's fun, and I also found some bits quite unexpectedly moving.

There are some interesting bits, definitely some food for thought, but it's also a bit disappointing, though i'm not sure exactly why (and it feels outdated in places, which is to be expected since it was written in the 80s). But there's still half a book left, so maybe things will improve, so to speak.

About Trump: “This president is unethical, and untethered to the truth and institutional values. His leadership is transactional, ego driven, and about personal loyalty.”

On the other side Comey, a Republican, recounts his relationship with Obama, who had appointed him, remembering that in both elections 2008 and 2012 he gave money to Obama's opposers and voted for them, but he came to have a great respect for Obama.

I loved her Shiver trilogy! Such a unique take on werewolves, I thought.

I was angry at the way Comey handled Hillary's email in the final stages of the campaign -- I think he did cost her -- but I do believe that he does genuinely put the interests of the nation above his own political interest. Is he an egotist? Hell yeah. But compared to the Ego in Chief? He's like the most humble man on the planet.

Yes. It is truly terrifying, and why I have to limit my news time viewing or my anxiety roars back into life.

I think his point about the country becoming weirdly, alarmingly numb to this new normal is correct. I see it in myself. I'm basically focusing all my attention on the midterms and trying not to be overwhelmed by the damage being done in the meantime.

I'm rereading (well, relistening to) 'The Hockey Player's Heart' by Jeff Adams and Will Knauss. (It's from the Dreamspinner Press's 'Dreamspun Desire' line. The books are all novellas with HEAs.) I really enjoy this one because unlike some books where the drama and angst often feels contrived, the situations in this book ring true. I highly recommend it.

Heh! Though I know and Anne can confirm that Hole pronounced in Norwegian sounds nothing like Hole pronounced in English ;-)

I'm not going to attempt to write down how it's pronounced but the "o" is a long o and so is "e" (the "e" is pronounced).

Related to that I recommend any Jo Nesbö's books there is especially Harry Hole's.
