Read RJ Scott's Love Happens Anyway. Sweet, quiet story, with a bit of humor here and there and likable characters. And it has such an adorable cover.

This has been my favorite so far of the slew of short Christmas stories I've been reading over the past two weeks. Just love that notion of turning your life around with the inspiration of the right person. :)

And the author ..."I was looking through Chris Scully's backlist yesterday, and after I got the "Back to you" one, I thought I'd try something "lighter" first, so I read the short story/novella Touch Me. I noticed afterward that some people complained in their reviews that it's not what they expected of an erotic romance. I also expected it to be light fluff, and instead I was surprised, still in a good way, by a very good story, heartbreaking but hopeful too. So that was interesting.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this one. I'll add it to my to-read list. Funny thing, related to your post: I've just started reading Cris Scully's Do Not Disturb: 3 Short Stories of Erotic Romance. I almost didn't buy it because of the word "erotic" there on the title, but I do like it so far. I'll report back if it turns out to be fluffy, erotic or something else. :-D
I've read Release, the last book by Patrick Ness: 4.5 stars, but probably I'm being a bit stingy: it's the sixth book by him I read and all others got 5 stars. Anyway themes like coming out, family, unconditional love, heartbreak, internalised homophobia, and friendship are treated with realism and care. Warmly recommended.

Did you know that Kaje Harper wrote the third story in The Rebuilding Year series? And it is quite lovely. Like an epilogue.Building Forever
I should perhaps add that contrary to many reviews I loved how realistic the story was because it showed real strong love that endures instead of a fairytale-stars-in-your-eyes love. But then I usually like faulty characters and not easy straight forward love stories.

Thank you. I saw the book, but I didn't know that it was the epilogue of the series.
Writers I like are writing a bit too much IMO ;-), I can't keep up.

Love your review. All of it, and especially the part about Corbin and about the nice surprises sprinkled all over the story. Also, a sequel would be awesome :-)

I loved the first one, but I'm considering not continuing with this series. It feels like it might be too angsty for me, atm. Right now, I'd rather read mysteries or holiday feel-good fluffy stories.

I waited a while to start the first one because I was waiting until the right mood, and I think it'll be the same with this one. I'm just not in the mood for heavy stuff right now, even awesome Alexis Hall heavy stuff. I'm all about the nice books right now. I'm re-reading The Student Prince and lots of R. Cooper. :)

I've just finished Wheel of Time series. It has took me over 20 months to finish it, and I'm with a book hangover right now -_-. I've started with Jamie Brodie series but, so far, it isn't working for me. Any recommendations, please?

Also, the Jamie Brodie series gets better as it goes along.
Oh, the Temeraire series by Naomi Novik is really good. Alternate universe Napoleonic wars with dragons.
Kaje Harper is blogging about Finding the Good Stuff given the incredible amount of books published every year.

There's something unexpected in her books. Maybe it's how the characters grow on you even though they're not immediately or obviously likable. Anyway, it's good to have rediscovered this author.

Ah, I didn't realize that... well, I did eventually make my way through the audio of Murder in Pastel, but I admit, I wasn't a big fan of the narrator. Good to know.
