What Are you Reading?

I'm looking forward to this one, but I haven't gotten to it yet. It sounds great. Glad to hear you liked it. KJ Charles also was quite excited about it, which is how I first heard of it. :)

I read Back to You by Chris Scully (a new-to-me author from Toronto) and I liked it worth 5 stars. I found both the relationship stuff and the mystery part gripping. And the author managed to make me invested in the main characters from the very beginning. I'm definitely going to try her other books, too.
Just finished Tales from Moominvalley this morning. So cute! And I loved the Christmas story at the end. Such good accidental timing on my part for reading it in December!
GAH! His Quiet Agent has now arrived at the library and is currently "in processing". I can't wait to recommend the hell out of it!
Also, Josh's new print books are in and are already on hold for patrons! So glad we got to order these print books from Amazon!!!

Cool! The name sounded familiar, so i checked and apparently i read Nights Like These by this author and gave it 5 stars. I'll definitely try Back to You. Thanks for the rec! :-)

So glad you're enjoying them! Johanna got me hooked with Moominsummer Madness (thank you!!!) and now I've read most of them. I'm about halfway through Tales from Moominvalley. It's more melancholy that the others, but still beautiful.

I think it's great they don't have to be read in order.
I've already recommended one of the Moomin books to a patron recently. :-)

I second this.

This has been my favorite so far of the slew of short Christmas stories I've been reading over the past two weeks. Just love that notion of turning your life around with the inspiration of the right person. :)

So glad you enjoyed it too :-)

I was looking through Chris Scully's backlist yesterday, and after I got the "Back to you" one, I thought I'd try something "lighter" first, so I read the short story/novella Touch Me. I noticed afterward that some people complained in their reviews that it's not what they expected of an erotic romance. I also expected it to be light fluff, and instead I was surprised, still in a good way, by a very good story, heartbreaking but hopeful too. So that was interesting.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this one. I'll add it to my to-read list. Funny thing, related to your post: I've just started reading Cris Scully's Do Not Disturb: 3 Short Stories of Erotic Romance. I almost didn't buy it because of the word "erotic" there on the title, but I do like it so far. I'll report back if it turns out to be fluffy, erotic or something else. :-D

Thank you for the rec, this sounds good.

Building Forever
I should perhaps add that contrary to many reviews I loved how realistic the story was because it showed real strong love that endures instead of a fairytale-stars-in-your-eyes love. But then I usually like faulty characters and not easy straight forward love stories.

Building Forever"
Thank you. I saw the book, but I didn't know that it was the epilogue of the series.
Writers I like are writing a bit too much IMO ;-), I can't keep up.

Love your review. All of it, and especially the part about Corbin and about the nice surprises sprinkled all over the story. Also, a sequel would be awesome :-)

Edmond Manning writes: The final book of my series, The Lost and Founds came out today. As a thank you to all who have waited PATIENTLY for this story to conclude, the book is priced at $2.99

Here some warnings from Alexis Hall:
http://www.quicunquevult.com/some-upd...

I also retrieved the suggestions from the author about how to read - or reread in my case - the series, for ex. the sequence in which the full novels were published or the “oldest to most recent adventure”- chronological sequence, and so on.
And now I'm not sure anymore about starting right away, because I would enjoy more the last book if I first reread the other 5, but that would take a while...

You are quite prolific as well, in fact.
But it's the cumulative effect which is problematic.

I loved the first one, but I'm considering not continuing with this series. It feels like it might be too angsty for me, atm. Right now, I'd rather read mysteries or holiday feel-good fluffy stories.

Because of the warnings I've decided to wait a while so that the third book will be almost out when I tackle the second ;-).

I waited a while to start the first one because I was waiting until the right mood, and I think it'll be the same with this one. I'm just not in the mood for heavy stuff right now, even awesome Alexis Hall heavy stuff. I'm all about the nice books right now. I'm re-reading The Student Prince and lots of R. Cooper. :)

There is also a free audio version of The Student Prince. And I love too some R.Cooper when I want something fluffy but not stupid.

The audio is very good. I do recommend it. :)

I really loved the trilogy The Broken Earth by Nora K. Jemisin. I'd say it is between science fiction and fantasy. You might be irritated in the first few pages by non explained words, but just be patient, everything will become clear.
Here a couple of articles about it:
The 21st-Century Fantasy Trilogy That Changed the Game
N. K. Jemisin on Diversity in Science Fiction and Inspiration From Dreams

It sounds really interesting! I don't mind invented words, actually, when it's an imaginary world I usually enjoy them because they made it more real. Thank you, Antonella 😄

I second this! It has to be one of the best series this year at least, for me.

Have you read the Mistborn series from Brandon Sanderson? I really enjoyed it.
Also, the Jamie Brodie series gets better as it goes along.
Oh, the Temeraire series by Naomi Novik is really good. Alternate universe Napoleonic wars with dragons.

Finding the Good Stuff given the incredible amount of books published every year.
About Cris Scully's Do Not Disturb: 3 Short Stories of Erotic Romance that I mentioned earlier: Yes, it's erotic. Yes, it's entertaining. No, it's not just banging. Yes, I liked it.
:-)
:-)

No, Haldis. I haven't read Mistborn, it was in my to-read though. I'll read it for sure.
Thank you everybody for your recommendations, you're the best! <3

Thanks for updating :-) I'm reading now Back to You, which is really good! And i'm also about halfway through Rebound, which is also good. There's something unexpected in her books. Maybe it's how the characters grow on you even though they're not immediately or obviously likable. Anyway, it's good to have rediscovered this author.

Ah, I didn't realize that... well, I did eventually make my way through the audio of Murder in Pastel, but I admit, I wasn't a big fan of the narrator. Good to know.
